See video of the presentation.Research Consulting undertook a study for Knowledge Exchange that looked at the relation between open-access policies and services. Drawing on a consultation with funders, institutions and service providers across the five Knowledge Exchange countries and beyond, it identifies the key services needed to successfully implement open-access policies, and suggests priorities for action in support of an open scholarly infrastructure.The study reviewed a wide range of OA policies from public research funders, private research funders and selected high education institutions from the five Knowledge Exchange countries; it finds that although policies vary considerably across countries, they generally share key requirements for green OA, gold OA and monitoring and compliance, with the clearest differences being in the emphasis placed on those requirements.The study also provided a thorough review and classification of OA services, and identified the ones that are indispensable for the successful implementation of all OA policies. In particular, it reviewed the importance for author, institutional and funders’ workflows of: (1) underpinning services such as standards, metadata and identifiers (e.g. ORCID and FundREF); (2) abstracting and indexing services, such as the Directory of Open Access Journal; (3) support and dissemination services such as SHERPA; and (4) green OA services encompassing a wide range of repository and related services designed to improve interoperability across the green OA landscape.Finally, we looked at critical challenges facing OA services, including uncertainties over their financial stability and governance models, that hamper – or can hamper in the future – their effective use and continued development, and we highlighted priorities for action from decision makers in the scholarly community. These include both specific recommendations to act in support of critical services, as well as strategic recommendations covering the actions and investments needed to create a coherent OA service infrastructure so as to allow more efficient and effective compliance with OA services.

With issue No 1/2013, this journal changed in several respects. Under a new editor-in-chief, the Strategic Review for Southern Africa, then published for 35 years, turned into an open access journal with a redesigned look. But the makeoveraimed at more than merely cosmetic changes. As outlined in the introduction of that issue, the changing context both in South Africa as well as globally, motivated a conceptual re-positioning, that also modified the subject-related thematic framework1).  Since then, thanks to many contributors offering a wide range of topicalanalyses, we hopefully managed to live up to at least some of the expectations created. After five years, it is now time to hand editorial responsibility to a new generation of scholars groomed in the spirit of democratic South Africa. This, therefore, is the last issue for me as the editor-in-chief. While I welcomed the privilege to lead the journal towards implementing a modified agenda, I now welcome the opportunity to move out of the way and pursue other tasks. I thank all those in the editorial group and the advisory board who accompanied and supported me during the last years. I am especially grateful to Maxi Schoeman, who felt I would be the right choice for this task. Special thanks go also to Wilma Martin, without her assistance none of the last eleven issues would have become a reality.

There have been many growing learning materials in Internet. With the popularization of the Internet, digital learning has become a new method of knowledge acquisition. The range of electronic resources from online databases to e-books and e-journals, different resources gains in different service providers. More and more people like to take the digital courses to discuss the topics or the issues which they are interested. Online course has become an important knowledge exchange platform in virtual world. Personal knowledge maps can follow the research interests of learners and learning process as learners need a wide range of electronic resources to be integrated. Currently, although a number of electronic resources will introduce by libraries. However, lack of effective organization and integrated in the single user interface, the user must learn multiple interfaces for the use of electronic resources. The personal knowledge map system has three notable characteristics. First, connect the courses and online resources. Second, visualize the learning process. Third, combine the library resources into courses. Fourth, group the students with the same learning interests.

The aim of this paper is to determine to what extent the use of Internet as a way of acquiring information for research purposes is a successful tool. The Internet can facilitate the research in different ways, some of which are being presented in the paper. Researchers have access to a wide range of databases available on the Internet, also having the opportunity to use sites designed as a social media for academics such as ResearchGate or Academia. Apart from that, there exists some degree of correspondence between open access philosophy and hacker ethics which is being related to academia to point to the possible ethic value researches have towards one another. The paper focuses on advantages of using Internet for the purposes of facilitating research, at the same time introducing the topic of collaboration and co-authorship as vital in today’s ‘publish-or-perish’ academia world.

The Journal of Privacy and Confidentiality (JPC) is the only journal to actively solicit contributions from the multi-faceted community of researchers and practitioners for whom privacy is a primary intellectual or operational concern, for dissemination across this broad community. This includes computer scientists, statisticians, lawyers, social scientists, policy-makers, health researchers, survey designers, and data-rich corporate players. While not every publication is aimed so broadly, the Journal aims to provide a common forum for all these constituent populations. With the publication of the current issue we re-launch the Journal of Privacy and Confidentiality. Watch the VIDEO here.The monograph is one of the most prestigious scholarly publication outlets – a hallmark of reputation, a tool for career progression and a means of disseminating fundamental ideas of scholarship. Open access policies from funders, publishers and institutions have been relatively quiet on monographs and other long form publications, predominantly focusing on journals. However the beginnings of a transition to open access for monographs has commenced and there are several projects and initiatives exploring and experimenting in this area.I would like to report on an in-depth study covering eight European countries (including Norway, Finland and Denmark) that compares and contrasts the monograph publishing landscape, where policy on OA for monographs stands, and how OA monograph publishing is now moving quickly forward.Librarians, who are increasingly being asked to support OA initiatives may be interested in the developments reported here.The primary goal of the Landscape study was to assemble comparable data and analysis from Germany, Finland, Denmark, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Norway, Austria and France. This includes the costs of OA books; the fees charged for OA books; the range of non-BPC models; the adoption of OA policies for books by funders (both public and private), universities, and publishers. An overview of OA book publishing along with a review of policies and mandates highlights the various national differences as well as similarities. While including examples from all eight countries the presentation will pay special attention to developments and experiments in the Nordic countries.Financial support for the study came from Knowledge Exchange, the Current Research Information System in Norway (CRIStin), the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), and the French library consortium Couperin. Eelco Ferwerda (OAPEN), Frances Pinter (KU Research) and Niels Stern (Nordic Council of Ministers) are joint Principal Investigators, with support from Lucy Montgomery (KU/Curtin University) and Ronald Snijder (OAPEN).

The audiovisual translation (AVT) sector has undergone rapid changes in recent years. It would be uncontroversial to state that the various stakeholders: academics; freelancers; technology providers, and language service providers (LSP) are likely to hold diverse and interesting views about what the future holds and how they might be called upon to adapt to recent and future changes. We have conducted qualitative research with representatives of these stakeholders in an attempt to ascertain their concerns and also their predictions for the future. Our motivation was to discover where stakeholders see the sector in the next 10 years. The research was conducted in 2016 and 2018 during the Languages and Media conference on a sample of 160 experts from various sector stakeholder groups. The findings show a broad range of issues that can be summarised into three main themes: the status of the language service provider; the need for standards and metrics; and the importance of training.   Lay summary Audiovisual translation, or media translation such as subtitling and dubbing, has changed a great deal in recent years. Professionals involved in the creation of translations for television and film, which includes the ever-more popular platforms such as Netflix, are likely to have differing views on what the future holds for their industry, especially given the rising volume of translations made by machine translation systems which are then edited by human translators. We have conducted research among professionals involved in the audiovisual translation production process at a conference that takes place in Berlin every two years:  Languages and the Media. This was an ideal place for such work since it attracts subtitlers, translators for dubbing, people who work in TV content translation, and trainers of media translators.  We were hoping to discover the views of a wide range of people about what might happen in the short to medium term in the industry. The research was conducted in 2016 and 2018 among 160 professionals, such as subtitlers and employees of streaming platforms. The findings reveal some issues connected to translating for the media and point to the need for measuring translation quality and investing more resources into media translation training.

The Institute of Integrative Omics and Applied Biotechnology (IIOAB), India (www.iioab.webs.com / www.iioab.ac.in) is a non-profit scientific organization that aims to provide a global platform for multidisciplinary research and advocacy. Other aspects of the organization are promotion of higher education, R&D, and to serve science, society, and the mankind. To fulfil its mission, IIOAB is now introducing a new open access, preer-reviewed, scientific international journal- the “IIOAB Letters” that will publish articles covering all aspects of biological sciences.  The journal is dedicated to students, who are our future, and will provide a platform to all scientific community to publish their articles.The journal is a collaborative effore of IIOAB and University Library Sysltem (ULS), Office of Scholarly Communication, Publishing and Web Services from University of Pittsburgh, USA. for puting their all valuable efforts in successfully launch the journal using Open Journal System (OJS).The journal will publish basic and applied research articles, invited review articles, interviews, letters, reports etc. This journal will also provide a global forum for ethical and business knowledge exchange through publishing papers from all over the world. Another aspect of the journal is rapid review and fast publication.  The journal will be indexed in well known indexing agencies soon.As an open access journal, the journal will be highly dynamic and interactive and all article will be available freely immediately after publication.
