Abstract Tire properties are some of the most important factors causing vehicle drift. In this paper, the influences of wheel alignment and tire properties on vehicle drift are discussed. The relationship between the wheel alignment of a vehicle and vehicle drift are examined. Also analyzed is the relationship between vehicle drift and front tire torque by using a four-wheel model while considering tire characteristics. The calculated front tire torque is compared with vehicle drift.

An emphasis on active ageing could help to delay the onset of frailty. In Singapore, Senior Activity Centres provide free and guided group exercise sessions for older adults. However, one such centre had very low participation rates among community-dwelling older adults despite running standardised programmes. Based on a needs analysis from a prior project, this paper reports on strategies implemented to improve the daily centre-based group exercise participation rate among community-dwelling older adults. Using the behaviour change wheel model, participant motivation domains were identified as primary gaps, while the psychological capability and physical opportunity were categorised as secondary gaps. A logic model was used to design a project to respond to these identified gaps and guide the evaluation approach. Three strategies were implemented over a 4-week period and reviewed at 6 months: (1) promotion of the exercise classes, (2) delayed rewards for participation and (3) health ambassadors. Evaluation findings highlighted that more resources were needed for the training of community-dwelling older adult healthcare ambassadors in the use of motivational interviewing. The interventions were found to be efficacious in increasing daily group exercise participation rate at the centre, from an average of three to nine participants per day over the 4 weeks. Furthermore, more than 60% of these participants achieved the WHO’s weekly minimum exercise recommendation for older adults (150 min moderate-intensity physical activity). To increase the engagement of older adults in physical activity or exercise participation, we recommend the use of behaviour change wheel model and the use of community-based health ambassadors. In conclusion, the project found improved daily centre-based group physical exercise participation rates when all the domains in the behaviour change wheel model were addressed.

Typically, closed-type impellers are more efficient than open-type impellers, but in the manufacture of closed-type impellers, cost of wheels is higher. This paper describes the development of cost-effective and simple impeller wheel for a fluid pump in the truck cooling system. To perform this task, the numerical computations of a standard impeller wheel were carried out, its characteristics were also obtained from a test bench, the standard impeller wheel model was verified. The open-type impeller wheel was developed according to the current dimensions of standard impeller wheel and then analyzed with the numerical computations by the software ANSYS CFX (Academic license) computational fluid dynamics. The developed open-type impeller wheel works very effectively in spite of performance degradation by 5% in comparison to the closed-type impeller wheel. When working as a part of engine, the pump efficiency is 0.552-0.579. The maximum value of the pump efficiency is 0.579, it can be achieved at the highest speed of the pump (4,548 rpm and 655 l/min).

This paper presents a slip suppression controller using sliding mode control method for electric vehicles which aims to improve the control performance of Evs in both driving and braking mode. In this method, a sliding mode controller is designed to obtain the maximum driving force by suppressing the slip ratio. The numerical simulations for one wheel model under variations in mass of vehicle and road condition are performed and demonstrated to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Discovering vibration problems after engine prototype tests translates in increased costs and limited re-design space. For this reason numerical tools are more and more being applied to help taking correct decision in the early design. This paper presents the estimation of the vibration levels induced by hot-streaks from burner-cans in the last blade of an industrial gas turbine. The aerodynamic forcing was obtained from full wheel time marching unsteady computational fluid dynamics calculation. The results are compared with a previous calculation of a scaled sector model. Determination of different sources of damping is achieved by the use of an unsteady aerodynamics harmonic solver and a friction damping harmonic balance method. Results show that the fatigue risk due to the first burner-can harmonic could be predicted with a fairly good accuracy from both scaled and full wheel model when compared with the strain gage prototype test data. The presence of various engine orders in the test spectral maps are commented and related to the calculations.

For properly choosing grinding parameters, predicting probable faults and processing quality, simulation of grinding based on virtual reality technology was study. Physiognomy forming mechanism of grinding wheel was analyzed and a 3D virtual grinding wheel models was built. Effects to grinding wheel physiognomy by grain size and organization number were analyzed and grain distribution was visually represented. Effect to processing quality by grinding wheel granularity, dressing parameters, grinding wheel speed, feed speed and grinding depth was simulated. And experiments were carried out for comparative analyzing. Experiments result proved the reliability and practicality of the virtual grinding wheel model.

Abstract A few high-temperature sulphate phases are both plastic crystals and solid electrolytes, the latter because the hindered rotational motion of the sulphate ions enhances the mobility of the cations. This interpretation has been called the paddle-wheel model, and it is obvious that cation migration becomes a much more complicated process in a plastic ionic crystal than in a crystal with a stiff, time-independent structure. Thus, there are strongly enhanced contributions from conventional migration mechanisms, such as jumping from well-defined lattice sites, but it is evident that there also are contributions which are specific for the paddle-wheel mechanism. By the molecular dynamics study by Ferrario, Klein and McDonald it has become possible to identify separately the contributions from centre-of-mass displacements and rotations of the sulphate group. Information in this direction has also been obtained recently by Karlsson and McGreevy in a neutron powder diffraction study where the reverse Monte Carlo method is used for modelling the data. The latter authors have modified the terminology slightly, which causes confusion regarding the meaning of the term "paddle-wheel mechanism". The "paddle-wheel" enhances not only bulk migration but also migration along interfaces and surfaces. The mobility can also be increased for monovalent anions present. Some examples are given of other types of mobility enhancements which also are due to libration or rotation of polyatomic anions.
