The principles of minimal invasive dentistry clearly dictates the need for developing effective measures to remineralize the early enamel caries lesions. Aim: The aim of the study was to access how knowledgeable and aware the dentist in Kashmir were related to the minimal invasive dentistry. Methodology: A cross sectional study was done on 60 interns and junior residents of Government Dental College Srinagar who were prescribing medicines in the OPD.This survey was to assess how knowledgeable, aware the dentists are while prescribing the re mineralising agents and do they detect the incipient carious lesions early. Results: 80% had observed a white spot lesion as a hypomineralization spot while examining the patient.67% of the dentists said that Fluoride based remineralising agents are the most easily available remineralising agent in the market. Conclusion: Dental caries pathophysiology is not a simple continual cumulative loss of tooth minerals but also a dynamic process characterised by alternating periods of demineralization and re mineralisation and can be reversed by the application of various remineralising agents.

Objective: The aim of the study was to analyze the caries protective factors, salivary parameters, and microbial counts in high caries risk children with cleft lip and/or palate (CL/P). Design: This was a cross-sectional study. Setting: This study was conducted in a tertiary health care teaching hospital in New Delhi, India. Participants: The study was conducted in 40 children, 20 with CL/P and 20 without aged between 5 and 12 years. Methods: Children with 2 or more caries lesions in both groups were included in this study. Demographic details, dental caries of affected teeth (World Health Organization criteria for Decayed Missing Filled Teeth [WHO-DMFT] and International Caries Detection and Assessment System [ICDAS II]), caries protective factors, salivary parameters, and microbial counts were recorded by one calibrated investigator. Main Outcome Measures: Caries protective factors, salivary parameters, and microbial profile. Results: The Chi-square (χ2) test and Pearson correlation were used for statistical analysis. All the children participating in the study brushed their teeth only once in a day and consumed sweets more than twice a day. None of the children had ever received fluoride varnish. Resting saliva had a low buffering capacity in 80% of children with CL/P and 95% of children without CL/P. Microbial assessment of stimulated saliva showed that with the increases in the numbers (DMFT scores ≥4) and severity (ICDAS codes from 1-2 to 5-6) of caries lesions, both Streptococci and Lactobacilli counts were ≥105 colony-forming units/mL of saliva in the both groups. Conclusions: Children with CL/P showed limited access to caries protective measures and low buffering capacity in resting saliva, along with elevated levels of salivary Streptococci and Lactobacilli in stimulated saliva.

Zirconia dioxide represents the current alternative in restoring primary teeth, being the most promising restorative material through its properties that offer. Zirconia crowns main properties are its aesthetics, resistance to fracture and compression, biocompatibility, alternative for the patients that are allergic to Ni-Cr. This cross-sectional study pointed out the correlations between the rate of applicability of the Ni-Cr crowns and the ZrO2 crowns, as well as the range of applicability of the ZrO2 crowns on temporary teeth among practitioners. The method of choice in the case of extensive carious lesions treatment on the primary teeth was the restoration using filling materials. From the 33,2% of the dentists who decide to apply a pedodontics crown, 75% use the Ni-Cr crowns, and only 25% of them choose the ZrO2 crown (p[0.0001). The applicability of ZrO2 crowns in pediatric dentistry is quite reduced, despite their physiognomic advantages, their excessive cost can also be an impediment for the patients parents.

Introduction: Oral diseases affect some 3.9 billion people worldwide, the most prevalent are dental caries, gingivitis, and periodontitis. Untreated dental caries lesions affect 35% of the population. Objective: To determine the level of severity of dental caries lesions in adults treated at public dental services in the cities of Asunción and Pirayú, Paraguay, in 2017. Material and Methods: Sociodemographic and clinical variables of oral health status were evaluated by means of a cross-sectional study using consecutive sampling. Two dentists were calibrated to perform the oral examination. Caries experience was evaluated using the DMF-T index. The Chi square test and Fisher's exact test were applied, with a confidence level of 95%. Results: 333 subjects with a mean age of 35 years participated in the study, 77.2% were females, and 64.0% did not have access to private health care services. The DMF-T index was 11.43 (SD=6.7); 12.6% obtained a very low level, 35.7% low level, 41.7% had a medium level, and 9.9% had a high level in the DMF-T index. The DMF-T index was significantly higher in females (p=0.001), in the age range of 50 to 59 years (p<0.001), in those who did not have access to private health services (p=0.008), in those who reported a negative self-evaluation of their oral health (p=0.04), in those with a normal molar ratio (p=0.023) and a very severe aesthetic index (p<0.001). Conclusion: The general level of severity of global caries was medium and associated with sociodemographic and clinical variables.

Abstract Background Although general medicine (GM) faculty in Japanese medical schools have an important role in educating medical students, the importance of residents’ rotation training in GM in postgraduate education has not been sufficiently recognized in Japan. To evaluate the relationship between the rotation of resident physicians in the GM department and their In-Training Examination score. Methods This study is a nationwide multi-center cross-sectional study in Japan. Participants of this study are Japanese junior resident physicians [postgraduate year (PGY)-1 and PGY-2] who took the General Medicine In-Training Examination (GM-ITE) in fiscal years 2016 to 2018 at least once (n = 11,244). The numbers of participating hospitals in the GM-ITE were 381, 459, and 503 in 2016, 2017, and 2018.The GM-ITE score consisted of four categories (medical interview/professionalism, symptomatology/clinical reasoning, physical examination/procedure, and disease knowledge). We evaluated relationship between educational environment (including hospital information) and the GM-ITE score. Results A total of 4464 (39.7%) residents experienced GM department rotation training. Residents who rotated had higher total scores than residents who did not rotate (38.1 ± 12.1, 36.8 ± 11.7, and 36.5 ± 11.5 for residents who experienced GM rotation training, those who did not experience this training in hospitals with a GM department, and those who did not experience GM rotation training in hospitals without a GM department, p = 0.0038). The association between GM rotation and competency remained after multivariable adjustment in the multilevel model: the score difference between GM rotation training residents and non-GM rotation residents in hospitals without a GM department was estimated as 1.18 (standard error, 0.30, p = 0.0001), which was approximately half of the standard deviation of random effects due to hospital variation (estimated as 2.00). Conclusions GM rotation training improved the GM-ITE score of residents and should be considered mandatory for junior residents in Japan.
