The aim of the research is to analyze the formation of the artist’s image through the design of musical posters and records in the period of late socialism by borrowing the semantic component and formal techniques in foreign pop culture, including graphic design, which served as an important component. The research methodology is based on a logical-analytical tool of scientific knowledge. Scientific novelty. Previous research has been supplemented by the analysis of new empirical data, including the design of record covers, visual coincidences of primary sources and borrowings. The revealed facts will be useful for the further development of both modern Ukrainian design and the formation of the artist’s image in show business. Conclusions. As a result of the study we conclude that in the period 1970-1990 in the process of formation of pop culture in the USSR the problem of its visual representation was formed, as evidenced by numerous pieces borrowed from foreign pop design solutions for advertising products: posters, placards, album covers, accompanying products. At an early stage, this trend was manifested despite the existence of the “Iron Curtain”, ideological isolation and was episodic. In the period chronologically close to the collapse of the USSR, such processes of stylistic citation in design became more frequent in line with the growth of information coming from the developed West. Copying Western techniques and visual language can be seen as a desire to break away from the dogmatic patterns of culture instilled by socialist realism, regardless of the conscious or unconscious nature of imitation. Blind imitation was later replaced by a reasonable rethinking, so in the best examples of domestic design of the period under study there were attempts to give formal Western methods the character of the local national color, which requires further exploration.

To solve the problem that traditional single-probe instruments cannot accurately measure the gas and water holdup, the domestic design of the array holdup measuring instrument Array of Optical and Resistance Tool (AORT), composed of five sets of optical fiber probes and five sets of resistance probes, is carried out in both gas–water and oil–water. Simulated measurement experiments were conducted under different water cut in phase flow. Through the analysis of the experimental data, the response relationship between the optical fiber probe and the resistance probe of the AORT instrument in different fluids was obtained. Then, the data under different conditions of fluid, flowrate and water cut in the experiment were compared by drawing. Interpolation algorithm was used to perform two-maintenance holdup imaging, and finally the holdup image was compared with the pictures of the flow in the pipe recorded during the experiment. The results show that the resistance probe has a better response under low water cut conditions, and the optical fiber probe has a better response under high gas cut conditions, which is consistent with the theoretical analysis. The imaging diagram and the flow pattern in the pipe during the experiment are in good agreement. It can be seen that the accuracy of the holdup measured by the AORT instrument under the test conditions is verified, and can provide technical support for further carrying out the measurement and interpretation of the holdup in future, as well as the improvement of the instrument and on-site testing.

The purpose of this paper is to reflectively explore minimalist architecture as an architecture that is driven by the reduction-based design method. The discussion aims to reframe the design processes and methods of minimalist architecture as informed by field observation. The phenomenon of applying a minimalist architectural approach has become a trend in small-scale housing in Indonesia lately. In the country, the small-scale residential design processes take place in different contexts and are faced with various limitations, from resources, budgets, land size, materials, and so on. The study will frame this discussion around exploring the reductive design method as a way of responding to these limitations. Informed by design strategies from the modern architecture movement, the study was conducted by observing reduction strategies in eight small-scale domestic design which was published and well-narrated in various media. The study findings demonstrate that the reduction does not only exist in the visual aspect of the design and construction process. It also exist in numerous other design elements, such as materials, forms, spaces, and ornamentation, as a strategic response towards the limitations of various resources.

The rainfall-runoff characteristics of urban and rural areas differ. Hence, major domestic design standards recommend using the rural basin rainfall-runoff models (the unit hydrograph method) for rural areas and the urban rainfall-runoff models (time-area method) for urban areas when estimating the amount of floods. Further, the guidelines for consultations on disaster impact assessment in Korea describe the selection of rainfall-runoff models according to basin types such as urban and rural areas. However, in complex watersheds where rural and urban basins coexist, the type of rainfall-runoff model is selected based on the modeler’s (or business operator’s) experiences rather than model selection guidelines. This study aims to analyze the impacts of uncertain design standards on disaster impact assessment in Korea. To this end, the parameters for each model (the unit hydrograph method, time-area method) were optimized using the measured datasets. The accuracy of the models was evaluated, as well as the appropriateness of flood reduction measures based on whether there was an assessment of downstream conveyance in development areas. The results of this study are expected to contribute to improving the reliability of the evaluation of flood reduction measures by assessing the accuracy of results in hydrological modeling and supplementing the uncertain flood estimation guidelines.
