AbstractThe Rajasthan basin situates in the western part of India. The basin architecture comprises three significant sub-basins such as Barmer-Sanchor, Bikaner-Nagaur and Jaisalmer. Barmer-Sanchor and Bikaner-Nagaur sub-basins are intracratonic categories, whereas the Jaisalmer sub-basin comes under intracratonic nature. The current study was conducted in the Jaisalmer sub-basin. The study was conducted in two regions in the Jaisalmer sub-basin through a comparative quantitative interpretation study with the help of two vintages seismic surveys. Ghotaru and Bandha are two adjacent areas in the Jaisalmer sub-basin where Ghotaru has seen few hydrocarbon discoveries; however, no such discoveries are encountered in the Bandha area. The current study was concentrated on the Jaisalmer limestone formation in the Jurassic age. The sub-basin and its related study area have been structurally deformed due to various tectonic activities. Structural deformation was played a crucial role in changing the rock property of limestone facies. A post-stack seismic inversion was carried out to capture the rock property changes in the limestone reservoir based on P-impedance values. Development of high P-impedance was observed in the Ghotaru region compared to the Bandha region from this study. A frequency changes of the limestone lithofacies with structural components was also captured in this study. The high impedance limestone lithofacies is a probable hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir unit in the Jaisalmer Formation of the Ghotaru region.

This article deals with the problems of designing and analysis of the deformed state of the wind turbine blade under critical loads. A three-dimensional shell simulation model is built, taking into account the complex curvilinear geometry and the presence of reinforcing internal parts. The determination of the parameters of the stress-strain state under the influence of wind load was carried out on the basis of the finite element method. A shell ten-node isoparametric finite element was used. The constructed finite element model of the blade allows taking into account the composite structure and reproduced the presence of a different number of composite layers along the thickness of the shell, the diversity of fibers on individual layers, in particular, the curvilinear orthotropy of mechanical properties was modeled. The procedure of multi-layer structure setting is presented, which provides for superimposition of layers of composite one on the other in places of joint, which ensures compliance of model with technological peculiarities. Static analysis of structural deformation calculation is carried out taking into account lifting force and air head force. The strength analysis was performed for each of the layers according to the criterion of maximum deformations. Key words: composite material, wind turbine blade, strength, finite-elemental analysis, orthotropy of characteristics.

It is almost inevitable that when a tunnel is excavated in an urban area, it will pass under an existing bridge. During tunnel excavation, a temporary lining is installed and subsequently removed. However, dismantling temporary lining may affect the stability of a nearby bridge. A numerical model was created and tests were conducted on a large-scale physical model to investigate the effects of dismantling temporary lining on a nearby bridge structure. A novel method of modeling the restraining force at the top of a pier was introduced to make the model more accurate in representing the physical situation. Analysis of the results led to the following conclusions and suggestions. 1. The process of removing temporary lining can have a significant impact on surface settlement and structural deformation of the bridge. 2. The effect of removing the second half temporary lining is greater than that of removing the first half. The key range of the tunnel where this phenomenon is principally observed contains one section of tunnel ahead (i.e., in the direction of tunnel advance) of the bridge span and the two sections to the rear. 3. A 6 m–3 m–6 m mixed dismantling method is recommended for use in the key range, and a rigid cap-connection method is proposed to counteract the considerable effects of dismantling temporary lining.

Abstract The main goal of this paper is contributing to the understanding to the structural geology, development, and evolution of traps associated with strike-slip restraining bend and restraining step-over structures as a key petroleum system element in southeastern Abu Dhabi. We introduce a preliminary classification scheme for these relatively small, low-relief features defined here as pop-up structures. These structures represent different evolutionary stages of strike-slip restraining bends formed along prominent WNW-trending strike-slip fault systems in southeastern Abu Dhabi. The proposed classification scheme was summarized as a chart to illustrate the correlation between the degree of structural deformation and seal integrity, and estimates the likelihood of finding multiple, vertically stacked, productive reservoirs. It also leads to a more detailed discussion on others important characteristics of pop-up structures and provides a better understanding of sealing mechanisms such as fault juxtaposition, fault throw analysis, fault slip tendency, fault rock processes, and the role of the development of hybrid flower structures in the area. We will also show a simple case study based on two exploratory wells that targeted two pop-up structures with different degrees of deformation in southeast Abu Dhabi. This case study illustrates the complex relationship between pop-up evolution, timing of trap formation, seal integrity, trap preservation, and multiple petroleum generation and migration events. Pop-up structures are linked to multiple episodes of trap and seal evolution, where several episodes of hydrocarbon migration, charge, and leaking of hydrocarbons may occur.

Seed endophytic bacteria (SEB) are primary symbionts that play crucial roles in plant growth and development. The present study reports the isolation of seven culturable SEB including Kosakonia cowanii (KAS1), Bacillus subtilis (KAS2), Bacillus tequilensis (KAS3), Pantoea stewartii (KAS4), Paenibacillus dendritiformis (KAS5), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (KAS6), and Bacillus velezensis (KAS7) in pearl millet seeds. All the isolates were characterized for their plant growth promoting activities. Most of the SEB also inhibited the growth of tested fungal phytopathogens in dual plate culture. Removal of these SEB from seeds compromised the growth and development of seedlings, however, re-inoculation with the SEB (Kosakonia cowanii, Pantoea stewartii, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) restored the growth and development of seedlings significantly. Fluorescence microscopy showed inter and intracellular colonization of SEB in root parenchyma and root hair cells. Lipopeptides were extracted from all three Bacillus spp. which showed strong antifungal activity against tested fungal pathogens. Antifungal lipopeptide genes were also screened in Bacillus spp. After lipopeptide treatment, live-dead staining with fluorescence microscopy along with bright-field and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed structural deformation and cell death in Fusarium mycelia and spores. Furthermore, the development of pores in the membrane and leakages of protoplasmic substances from cells and ultimately death of hyphae and spores were also confirmed. In microcosm assays, treatment of seeds with Bacillus subtilis or application of its lipopeptide alone significantly protected seedlings from Fusarium sp. infection.

ABSTRACT The vertical near-fault seismic ground-motion component can cause significant structural deformation and damage, which can be evaluated from time history analysis using actual or synthetic ground-motion records. In this study, we propose a new stochastic model for the vertical pulseless near-fault ground motions that depends on earthquake magnitude, rupture distance, and site condition. The proposed model is developed based on the time–frequency characteristics of 606 selected actual vertical record components in strike-slip earthquakes. The use and validation of the model are presented using simulated records obtained by two simulation techniques. For the validation, the statistics of time–frequency-dependent power spectral acceleration estimated from the simulated records using the proposed stochastic model are compared with those from the actual records and the ground-motion models available in the literature.

Solution of near-field underwater explosion (UNDEX) problems frequently require the modeling of two-way coupled fluid-structure interaction (FSI). This paper describes the addition of an embedded boundary method to an UNDEX modeling framework for multiphase, compressible and inviscid fluid using the combined algorithms of Runge-Kutta, discontinuous-Galerkin, level-set and direct ghost-fluid methods. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver based on these algorithms has been developed as described in previous work. A fluid-structure coupling approach was required to perform FSI simulation interfacing with an external structural mechanics solver. Large structural deformation and possible rupture and cracking characterize the FSI phenomenon in an UNDEX, so the embedded boundary method (EBM) is more appealing for this application in comparison to dynamic mesh methods such as the arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) method to enable the fluid-structure coupling algorithm in the fluid. Its limitation requiring a closed interface that is fully submerged in the fluid domain is relaxed by an adjustment described in this paper so that its applicability is extended. Two methods of implementing the fluid-structure wall boundary condition are also compared. The first solves a local 1D fluid-structure Riemann problem at each intersecting point between the wetted elements and fluid mesh. In this method, iterations are required when the Tait equation of state is utilized. A second method that does not require the Riemann solution and iterations is also implemented and the results are compared.
