Introduction: myopia is the most common eye disease in the world in with substantial social, educational and economic impact. Some studies have shown changes in aqueous humour proteins in myopic patients. To estimate total Aim: protein concentration, types of proteins in aqueous humour and the correlation with myopic patients. This is a Material and Methods: Prospective study conducted on 36 eyes of 36 patients attending Department of Ophthalmology, TRIHMS, Naharlagun, who were undergoing cataract operation. Group A served as a control group with 22 eyes of non myopic patients. Group B consisted of 14 eyes of 14 myopic patients having axial length more than 26mm.Aqueous humour collected from both the groups during cataract surgery was sent for Sodium dodecylsulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis ( SDS-PAGE). Signicant diffe Result: rence in relative bands width (%) in the gel patterns in myopic and non myopic patient was seen.Myopic patients had higher magnitude of protein expressions /bands in molecular weights being 55kDa (Transthyretin), 69kDa ( Albumin) and 110kDa ( Vitamin-D binding protein) than non-myopic patients. In non myopic patients ,70-90 kDa (Heat shock Protein) were very highly expressed than myopic patients. Aqueous humour proteins were Conclusions: estimated to be different between myopic and non myopic patients signicantly. These proteins can be candidates for broadening of our existing knowledge of the pathophysiological characteristics of myopia. They may help in early diagnosis and monitoring of the myopic patients can be done. They may also help in deeper understanding of mechanism which cause axial elongation in myopia.

Cataract causes lowering visibility and becomes the main risk factor of blindness that can be healed by performing surgery. The surgery may cause anxiety which is affected by self efficacy. Thus, the self efficacy boost the human’s confidence in making decision, reducing stress, as well as lowering the depression risk. The objective of this research is to analyze the correlation between self efficacy and the level of anxiety to the pre-cataract operation patients at Balug Regional Hospital. This research comprises 2 variables there are self-efficacy (independent variables) and the level of anxiety (dependent variable) that is observed using descriptive analytical method by using purposive sampling. The data collection method used in this research is perfomed by using Pre Operative Self Efficacy Scale (PSES) to assess self efficacy and The Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) to determine the level of anxiety. The analysis of the correlation between self efficacy and the level of anxiety is conducted by using The Spearman Rank Correlation (p=0,05). The result of this research reveals the median score of the self efficacy is 146,00 with the average of 131,48. The percentage of self efficacy reveals as many as 53 respondents (84,1%) show good self efficacy as opposed to 10 respondents (15,9%) who show poor self efficacy. The percentage of the repondents’ level of anxiety reveals as many as 39 respondents (61,9%) show mild level of anxiety. The result of this research also reveals the correlation between self efficacy and the level of anxiety of the pre-cataract operation patients (p = 0,001 r = -0,691) with negative direction. This means that the higher self efficacy, the lower level of anxiety is. Conclusion: Self efficacy plays important roles in controlling anxiety. Any individuals with high confidence may control what happens, thus allowing low level of anxiety to appear, respectively.

The aim of this study was to report a case of orbital cellulitis that occurred after routine uneventful cataract operation (Phacoemusification) under peribulbar anaesthesia in southern region of India. A complete ophthalmic evaluation, systemic evaluation, investigations, treatment and follow up of a 60 year old male patient was done. Orbital cellulits following cataract surgery is extremely rare. A timely diagnosis was made and the patient was treated with intravenous antibiotics. Patient did not have any predisposing risk factors; therefore most likely cause of cellulitis was surgical trauma during administration of the peribulbar block. This case illustrates the need for adequate skin preparation before the administration of peribulbar anaesthesia and minimal tissue trauma during the procedure

Background: In India the coverage and outcome of cataract management are through camps and hospital undertaking rural cataract surgical services. There are varied outcomes of cataract surgery in population based studies within our country while cataract surgical outcomes have inbuilt dependency on various factors. National program for control of blindness and visual impairment aims in improvement of vision of the cataract patients. Thus evaluating cataract outcome would help top strengthen the national program. Methods: The study was part of population based blindness survey carried out among 40 years and above rural population in Dhule district of Maharashtra during 2019. In the survey 2370 villagers, 40 years and above were surveyed for blindness prevalence by 30 Cluster sampling technique having 79 peoples from each cluster. Collection of baseline data with information of eye care services and ophthalmic examination was done. Results: Prevalence of cataract in 40 year and above population in study was 20.78%. In present study predominant barrier in cataract operation in 71.1% participants for not having consultation was belief it to be destiny or God’s will.  20.3% cataract patients with visual impairment had visual acuity of 6/60 and 18.4% had less than 3/60 visual acuity. Maximum participants had cataract operated in government hospital 61.7%. In the study cataract surgical coverage was 72.7% by eyes and 81.7% by person for visual acuity <3/60.Conclusions: Efforts to increase cataract surgical coverage would help to reduce the prevalence of visual impairment due to cataract.

Abstract Background Cataract is the leading cause of blindness in developing countries including Malaysia. Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) and Ministry of Health, Malaysia (MOH) have established a cataract day care centre called Pusat Pembedahan Katarak, MAIWP- Hospital Selayang (MAIWP- Selayang Hospital Cataract Surgery Centre) to offer a day care cataract surgery with the aim reduce the waiting list among patients plan for cataract operation at the MOH referral hospital in Klang Valley. This smart partnership enables more patients to undergo cataract surgery with a lesser waiting period irrespective of their religious belief. Objective This paper aims to estimate the cataract surgery rate (CSR) of Pusat Pembedahan Katarak, MAIWP- Hospital Selayang (Cataract Operation Centre) from 2013 to 2016 and descriptive assessments of the patients who received eye treatments in the centre. Methods All cataract patients who underwent for operations in Selayang Hospital were requested to complete the “Registration Form,” that consist of the these information namely name, sex, age, home address, cataract classification, detailed ophthalmological exam information (such as naked eyesight, optometry, tonometry, etc.), cataract surgeon, surgical management, intraocular lens (IOL) implantation or not, operation cost origin, operation outcome (mainly 1st–3rd postoperative day corrected visual acuity (VA), etc. Cataract surgery data are entered into the local Eye Clinic Management System (ECMS) which synchronises with National Eye Database (NED) at regular intervals. Results Cataract surgery rate for 2013 was about 27 and increased to 37.3 in 2014. However, it was declined to 25 in 2015 before bouncing back to 36 in year of 2016. Female patients who received eye treatment at Pusat Pembedahan Katarak, MAIWP- Hospital Selayang was higher (53.7%) as compared to male patients (46.3%). Mean duration of cataract surgery from 2013 to 2016 was 21.25 ± 11.071 minutes. Conclusions Increased in cataract surgery rate for MAIWP-HS through smart partnership for day care cataract surgery proved that easy accessibility is possible to achieve the short and long-term strategies for the reduction and prevention of blindness in Malaysia.

Abstract Retinal detachment (RD) is a serious and common condition, but genetic studies to date have been hampered by the small size of the assembled cohorts. In the UK Biobank data set, where RD was ascertained by self-report or hospital records, genetic correlations between RD and high myopia or cataract operation were, respectively, 0.46 (SE = 0.08) and 0.44 (SE = 0.07). These correlations are consistent with known epidemiological associations. Through meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies using UK Biobank RD cases (N = 3 977) and two cohorts, each comprising ~1 000 clinically ascertained rhegmatogenous RD patients, we uncovered 11 genome-wide significant association signals. These are near or within ZC3H11B, BMP3, COL22A1, DLG5, PLCE1, EFEMP2, TYR, FAT3, TRIM29, COL2A1 and LOXL1. Replication in the 23andMe data set, where RD is self-reported by participants, firmly establishes six RD risk loci: FAT3, COL22A1, TYR, BMP3, ZC3H11B and PLCE1. Based on the genetic associations with eye traits described to date, the first two specifically impact risk of a RD, whereas the last four point to shared aetiologies with macular condition, myopia and glaucoma. Fine-mapping prioritized the lead common missense variant (TYR S192Y) as causal variant at the TYR locus and a small set of credible causal variants at the FAT3 locus. The larger study size presented here, enabled by resources linked to health records or self-report, provides novel insights into RD aetiology and underlying pathological pathways.
