The sociology of education is a relatively autonomous subject, because it conducts teaching and research. It is also relatively autonomous in relation to theories and about other fields of investigation. Contemplating present state of thinking, one of the persistent problems of sociology of education is on what grounds sociologists of education can claim that they have a field of their own, distinct from that of general sociologists, anthropologists, psychologists, historians, economists and other groups of specialists. In the discussion of the sociology of education, we observe the discourse of subject matter remains elusive. No thinker states anything properly in this context. But it is not that insignificant. The subject matter of the sociology of education may be explored in three paths where through the historical contribution of the thinkers, published books, journals, and articles as documents of empirical research works, and analytical discussion takes place.

This chapter shows how Latin America has played a rather innovative and creative role in the development of regional political asylum and refugee regimes. It reviews both the historical contribution of Latin America’s political asylee and refugee sub-regimes, and the region’s protection situation and key challenges. The chapter aims to answer the following questions: what is the concept of the prevailing asylum regime in Latin America and what are its sub-regimes? What is the current protection legal framework in the region? What is the institutional framework and its contribution to the protection of asylum seekers, political asylees, and refugees in Latin America? What are the major protection challenges currently faced by the region? In terms of its regional coverage, it considers that, of the 35 independent States of the Americas that are members of the Organization of American States, 20 of these may be regarded as Latin American States—that is, bearers of Spanish, Portuguese, or French cultural and linguistic heritage.

AbstractFlour beetles of the genusTriboliumhave been utilised as informative study systems for over a century and contributed to major advances across many fields. This review serves to highlight the significant historical contribution thatTriboliumstudy systems have made to the fields of ecology and evolution, and to promote their use as contemporary research models. We review the broad range of studies employingTriboliumto make significant advances in ecology and evolution. We show that research usingTriboliumbeetles has contributed a substantial amount to evolutionary and ecological understanding, especially in the fields of population dynamics, reproduction and sexual selection, population and quantitative genetics, and behaviour, physiology and life history. We propose a number of future research opportunities usingTribolium, with particular focus on how their amenability to forward and reverse genetic manipulation may provide a valuable complement to other insect models.

International Women's Day will be celebrated on 8 March 2021. Much has changed in the modern world, but it is still a fact that women are underrepresented in many sectors; this is especially true in science and research. Colleagues from the Oxford Brain Health Clinical Trials Unit reflect on the historical contribution of women in STEM and what future challenges and successes may lay ahead.

The process of forming an Islamic boarding school usually has a relationship with social politics. In the Industrial Revolution Era 4.0, there was less and less knowledge about the importance of studying the historical contribution of Islam in Indonesia. The purpose of this research is to analyze the background of the founding of Islamic teachings, movements and social politics in one of the Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia. This study uses the Historical Narrative Study approach. The results found that the Wali Barokah Islamic Boarding School stood behind the founder who tended to be a writer of scriptures and puritans. In addition, the teachings hold fast and, practice the Koran and Hadith, manqul in the transmission of knowledge. The curriculum is summarized in the Al-Manhaj al-Tarbiyah guidelines. On the other hand, the socio-political movement is as follows: Using a more gentle and open method of preaching, as an agent of da'i-da'iyah, in collaboration with outside institutions and with economic activities.
