Summary α-Zirconium phosphate (α-ZrP) nanocrystals were synthesized by refluxing method and subsequently exfoliated into extremely thin 2D nanosheets by tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAOH) solution. Dynamic light scattering, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to characterize the size distribution and morphology of α-ZrP nanosheets. Interfacial tension (IFT) and contact angle measurement were conducted by different concentrations of α-ZrP nanosheets solutions. The results displayed that the wettability of porous media surface was altered from oleophilic to hydrophilic and the IFT decreased with the increasing of α-ZrP nanosheets concentrations. A new method was proposed to calculate the Hamaker constant for 2D α-ZrP nanosheets. The calculated results displayed that α-ZrP nanosheets were not easy to agglomerate under experimental environment and when the interaction energy barrier increased, the transport amount of α-ZrP nanosheets also increased. Coreflooding tests were also performed with various concentrations and the oil recovery efficiency increased from 33.59 to 51.26% when α-ZrP nanosheets concentrations increased from 50 to 1,000 ppm.

The increased advancement in nanosciences in recent times has led to fascinating innovations. It has potential applications for altering the structural, surface, and physicochemical properties of nano-ranged metamaterials. The adaptable optical, structural, and surface characteristics of the nanoscopic regimes enhance the quality of integrated nanodevices and sensors. These are further used in optoelectronics, biomedicines, and catalysis. The use of nanomaterials for constructing nano-biosensors and various other organic and inorganic functional nanomaterials is quite promising. They have excellent electronic and surface-to-volume reactivity. Their various applications include metal and metal-oxides-based nanoparticles, clusters, wires, and 2D nanosheets as carbon nanotubes. More recently, hybrid nanomaterials are being developed to regulate sensing functionalities in the field of nanomedicine and the pharmaceutical industry. They are used as nano-markers, templates, and targeted agents. Moreover, the mechanical strength, chemical stability, durability, and flexibility of the hybrid nanomaterials make them appropriate for developing a healthy life for humans. This consists of a variety of applications, such as drug delivery, antimicrobial impacts, nutrition, orthopedics, dentistry, and fluorescence fabrics. This review article caters to the essential importance of nanoscience for biomedical applications and information for health science and research. The fundamental characteristics and functionalities of nanomaterials for particular biomedical uses are specifically addressed here.

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were carried out to understand the structural stability of 2D nanosheets of gold and silver in hexagonal phase of 2H by the adsorption of small molecules. In this work, we have obtained the bonding and adsorption properties of such small molecules as H2O, H2O2, and C2H5OH on 2H phase of gold and silver nanosurfaces, through DFT method using Quantum Expresso (QE) code. The high absorption energy values of (-2.45 eV, -2,46 eV, -2, 41 eV) for H2O, H2O2, and C2H5OH molecules on 2H-Au surfaces, respectively obtained than that of 2H-silver surfaces that the interaction between small molecules and both 2H nanosurfaces corresponds to physisorption. However, during the adsorption, the gold surface in the 2H phase (2H-Au) seems to preserve its atomic structure, while 2H-Ag surface changes from 2H to the fcc structure. Based on the analysis of electronic and physicochemical properties, the composite systems of 2H-gold/2H-silver-small molecules exhibit semiconductor behaviour. While 2H-Ag surfaces have short recovery time values for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), this time is quite long for 2H-Au surfaces. Because of the long recovery time, Au-2H reported surfaces can be a candidate for possible applications of viral capture. Thus, the reported results are significant, and they would stimulate the experimental and further studies.
