Abstract BackgroundAlthough clozapine is an effective option for treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS), there are still 1/3 to 1/2 of TRS patients who do not respond to clozapine. The main purposes of this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was to explore the amisulpride augmentation efficacy on the psychopathological symptoms and cognitive function of CTRS patients. MethodsA total of 80 patients were recruited and randomly assigned to receive an initial clozapine plus amisulpride or clozapine plus placebo. Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms (SANS), Clinical Global Impression (CGI) scale scores, Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS), Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale (TESS), laboratory measurements and electrocardiograms (ECG) were performed at baseline, week 6, and week 12. ResultsCompared with clozapine plus placebo group, clozapine plus amisulpride had lower PANSS total score, positive subscore and general psychopathology subscore at week 6 and week 12 (all p Bonferroni< 0.01). Furthermore, compared with clozapine plus placebo group, clozapine plus amisulpride showed improved RBANS language score at week 12 (p Bonferroni< 0.001). Clozapine plus amisulpride group had a higher treatment response rate (p = 0.04), lower scores of CGI severity (CGI-S) and CGI efficacy (CGI-E) at week 6 and week 12 than clozapine plus placebo (all p Bonferroni< 0.05). There were no differences in BMI, QT intervals or laboratory measurements between the groups. Our results demonstrate that amisulpride augmentation therapy can safely improve the psychiatric symptoms and cognitive performance of CTRS patients. ConclusionsOur study indicates that amisulpride augmentation therapy has important clinical significance for the treatment of CTRS to improve clinical symptoms and cognitive function with tolerability and safety.Trial registrationClinicaltrials.gov identifier- NCT03652974. &lt;p&gt;Biomass burning (BB) is a significant contributor to air pollution on global, regional and local scale with impacts on air quality, public health and climate. Anhydrosugars and methoxyphenols are key tracers emitted through BB. Once emitted, they can undergo complex multiphase chemistry in the atmosphere contributing to secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation. However, their chemical multiphase processing is not yet well understood and investigated by models. Thus, the present study aimed at a better understanding of the multiphase chemistry of these BB tracers by detailed model studies with a new developed CAPRAM biomass burning module (CAPRAM-BBM).This module was developed based on the kinetic data from our laboratory measurements at TROPOS and other literature studies. The developed CAPRAM-BBM includes 2991 reactions (9 phase transfers and 2982 aqueous-phase reactions). By coupling with the multiphase chemistry mechanism MCMv3.2/CAPRAM4.0 and the extended CAPRAM aromatics (CAPRAM-AM1.0) and halogen modules (CAPRAM-HM3.0), itis being applied for residential wood burning cases in Europeand wildfire cases in the US. Our model results show that levoglucosan and vanillin are effectively oxidized under cloud conditions. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that the chemistry of BB tracers can affect the budgets of key oxidants such as H&lt;sub&gt;2&lt;/sub&gt;O&lt;sub&gt;2&lt;/sub&gt;, and contribute to the SOA formation especially by increasing the fraction of brown carbon and substituted organic acids.&lt;/p&gt;

Sorption isotherms collected from tables in the seminal dissertation, “The Thermodynamics and Hysteresis of Adsorption” by A. J. Brown, have been digitized and made publicly available, along with supporting software scripts that facilitates usage of the data. The isotherms include laboratory measurements of xenon, krypton, and carbon dioxide adsorption (and, when possible, desorption) isotherms on a single sample of Vycor glass1, at various temperatures including subcritical conditions for xenon and krypton. The highlight of this dataset is the collection of “scanning” isotherms for xenon on Vycor at 131 K. The scanning isotherms examine numerous trajectories through the adsorption-desorption hysteresis region, such as primary adsorption and desorption scanning isotherms that terminate at the hysteresis boundary, secondary scanning isotherms made by selective reversals that return to the boundary, and closed scanning loops. This dataset was originally used to test the independent domain theory of adsorption and continues to support successor theories of adsorption/desorption scanning hysteresis including more recent theories based on percolation models. Through digital preservation and release of the tables from Brown’s dissertation, these data are now more easily accessible and can continue to find use in developing models of adsorption for fundamental and practical applications.

The presented 3D seismic system operates three transducers (130 kHz) from a stationary lander and allows non-destructive imaging of small-scale objects within the top decimeters of silty sediments, covering a surface area of 0.2 m2. In laboratory experiments, samples such as shells, stones, and gummy worms of varied sizes (down to approx. 1 cm diameter) could be located in the 3D seismic cube to a depth of more than 20 cm and differentiated by a reflected amplitude intensity and spatial orientation. In addition, simulated bioturbation structures could be imaged. In a practical application, the system allows to determine the abundance of endobenthos and its dynamic in muddy deposits in-situ and thus identify the intensity of local bioturbation.

To evaluate the index cases leading to the transmission of healthcare workers (HCWs) in Rize/Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan University Faculty of Medicine Education and Research Hospital with COVID-19 infection and the clinical features of infected HCWs. The first two COVID-19 test positive patients treated at Rize/Turkey between 10.03.2020 and 12.04.2020 and HCWs those who examined these two patients whose COVID-19 PCR test results were positive were included in this study. In Rize/Turkey, the first and second cases of positive COVID-19 which was recorded on 13.03.2020 on 25.03.2020, 27 HCWs (female, 63%, n = 17 and male, 37%, n = 10 and the mean age was 33.2 ± 6.9 years) who contacted during the treatment of these cases and became COVID-19 positive were examined. The median of symptom duration (days) of the HCWs was 5 days (range: 0–17 days). Fever, 55.6% (n = 15); malaise, 44.4% (n = 12); cough, 40.7% (n = 11); sore throat, 33.3% (n = 9); myalgia, 33.3% (n = 9); dyspnea, 14.8% (n = 4); diarrhea, 22.2% (n = 6); vomiting, 14.8% (n = 4); anosmia, 18.5% (n = 5); ageusia, 22.2% (n = 6) and headache, 37% (n = 10) of the cases. The rates of headache in female HCWs infected with COVID-19 were found to be significantly higher compared to men (52.9%). None of them had severe clinical situation requiring intensive care follow-up or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Laboratory measurements of HCWs were carried out at the first when they had symptoms and when they recovered, and results were compared accordingly. The thorax computerized tomography (CT) findings of HCWs were normal in 74.1% (n = 20) of total. HCWs were initially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Early measures provided by the Health authorities, access to diagnosis and treatment, and the young age average in HCWs prevented severe outcomes such as severe clinical course and mortality at the beginning of the outbreak.

Photoluminescent paints for road marking have been evaluated through laboratory measurements and visibility computations. The luminance decay in the dark was measured after constant excitation during at least six hours. To study the effect of night-time lighting conditions, luminance was also measured under a constant low illumination simulating moon and light pollution, and a periodic lighting simulating automotive traffic. Measurements were also carried out on luminescent road markings applied in a full scale mock up. Then, possible uses and limits of photoluminescent road markings were investigated through visibility computations based on the COST 331 model. Findings suggest that luminescent road markings could strengthen the visual guidance of drivers on the road with traffic by increasing the visibility distance beyond the range of the headlamps during the first few hours of the night, but it depends on the night-time illumination level.
