This paper describes the Power hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) architecture and capacities of the CoSES laboratory at TU Munich. The lab brings together renewable resources, flexible grid topologies, fully controllable prosumer emulators, a real-time control environment, and an API access for external connection to the lab. The electrical and control design of the lab allows for sophisticated PHIL experiments with an user-friendly implementation. Two experiments are included, to validate the PHIL performance and demonstrate the use of PHIL infrastructure to investigate an OPF algorithm.

Abstract This paper presents the digitization of small-scale energy monitoring systems based on IoT. The proposed energy monitoring system known as EMOSY eliminates the high-cost energy meter. EMOSY is designed to be portable and practical to use without modification of internal or external connection of appliances. EMOSY is developed by using a voltage detector circuit concept by amplifying the existence of electrostatic. This electrostatic reading sends to the database through Wi-Fi module ESP8266 integrated with Arduino NodeMCU. The web page is designed using Adobe Dreamweaver with HTML and PHP coding. In the proposed system, the user able to monitor the energy usage of each appliance and estimated billing time to time. Based on the result, the energy monitoring system successfully can detect the existence of electrostatic, and the webpage database can display the energy usage extended to the estimated electricity bill. The monitoring system is found to be useful to the residential, commercial, and industrial to monitor energy patterns, which is essential to facilitate energy conservation measures for minimizing energy usage.

By a sol–gel method, a BiFeO3 (BFO) capacitor is fabricated and connected with the control thin film transistor (TFT). Compared with a control thin-film transistor, the proposed BFO TFT achieves 56% drive current enhancement and 7–28% subthreshold swing (SS) reduction. Moreover, the effect of the proposed BiFeO3 capacitor on IDS-VGS hysteresis in the BFO TFT is 0.1–0.2 V. Because dVint/dVGS > 1 is obtained at a wide range of VGS, it reveals that the incomplete dipole flipping is a major mechanism to obtain improved SS and a small hysteresis effect in the BFO TFT. Experimental results indicate that sol-gel BFO TFT is a potential candidate for digital application.

In 1995, during the process of democratization, Mongolia established a Law on Education and a Law on Higher Education. These laws positioned the board of directors as the ultimate decision-making body within each university and stipulated that the board’s membership include the representatives of the university’s founder, faculty members, students, parents, and alumni, enabling a wide range of people to participate in university governance. At the same time, it was stipulated that the representatives nominated by the founder would account for 51-60% of the board’s membership, giving them a majority that runs counter to the principle of introducing greater diversity into the board. This article examines the positioning of the board of directors in Mongolian higher education institutions through reviews of documents and the websites of existing higher education institutions. In particular, this article clarifies the position of the board of directors as the mainstay of governance systems in both national and private universities in Mongolia. These findings are expected not only to further understanding of Mongolian higher education but also to furnish new insights into the board of directors as an organ for both internal control and external connection. This study offers implications for future research in the field of comparative education on higher education’s governance reform in line with globalization and marketization.

The main aim of this article is to design a monitoring center for collecting and evaluating the physiological function of retired patients in nursing homes. The system should be able to collect the information of body heat, heart rate, blood oxygen, orientation, and sleep time in the form of the little bracelet. The evaluating part of the system with the program can be placed into personal computer (PC) which can provide a user-friendly interface and easy managing. The program can display all needed information of the patient from previous days or months in the form of the graphs and the nursing person can have the view of the patient´s physiological health. The evaluation and the collection of the data from each patient are done only on the card and the computer is only a device for live-view and managing. In case of the power failure, the monitoring system will be still operating normally due to the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) in the form of the battery. It means that the system will operate even if the PC is powered off. The system also has several external communication interfaces like wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi), ethernet, and general packet radio service (GPRS) which provides an external connection.

Portability and low-cost analytic ability are desirable for point-of-care (POC) diagnostics; however, current POC testing platforms often require time-consuming multiple microfabrication steps and rely on bulky and costly equipment. This hinders the capability of microfluidics to prove its power outside of laboratories and narrows the range of applications. This paper details a self-contained microfluidic device, which does not require any external connection or tubing to deliver insert-and-use image-based analysis. Without any microfabrication, magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) microactuators including pumps, mixers and valves are integrated into one modular microfluidic chip based on novel manipulation principles. By inserting the chip into the driving and controlling platform, the system demonstrates sample preparation and sequential pumping processes. Furthermore, due to the straightforward fabrication process, chips can be rapidly reconfigured at a low cost, which validates the robustness and versatility of an MRE-enabled microfluidic platform as an option for developing an integrated lab-on-a-chip system.

Virtual reality offers tremendous opportunities for Indigenous communities to experience themselves inside unreal settings not available in the real world. However, virtual reality as a technology is complex involving both an internal and external connection that is usually dependent on one’s attention shifting from the physical Indigenous environment to the virtual reality environment. Any deviance from heritage or known Indigenous relationships may result in a disconnected drift between the traditional and unreal digital world if wrongly presented. The concern virtual reality maybe replacing the traditional identity of users with a digital version of themselves. At the centre of this problem is the technology itself, not being exposed to Indigenous concepts during the construction of any virtual reality IT artefact? This study applies a multidisciplinary approach to tackle a key issue for virtual reality by locating a version of Indigenous identity of self within a digital setting during the construction of the virtual reality artefact.
