The reaction of the redox active 1,2-bis[(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imino]acenaphthene (dpp-BIAN) and iron(II) iodide in acetonitrile led to a new complex [(dpp-BIAN)FeIII2] (1). Molecular structure of 1 was determined by the single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The spin state of the iron cation in complex 1 at room temperature and the magnetic behavior of 1 in the temperature range of 2–300 K were studied using Mossbauer spectroscopy and magnetic susceptibility measurements, respectively. The neutral character of dpp-BIAN in 1 was confirmed by IR and UV spectroscopy. The electrochemistry of 1 was studied in solution and solid state using cyclic voltammetry. The generation of the radical anion form of the dpp-BIAN ligand upon reduction of 1 in a CH2Cl2 solution was monitored by EPR spectroscopy.

Platinum-doping of hematite (α-Fe2O3) is a popular method to increase the performance of hematite in photoelectrochemical applications. Here we show that the additional charge caused by Pt4+ is balanced by an Fe3+ vacancy.

The minimization of the sample quantities required by analytical laboratories, as well as the increase of the fastness of the analytical operations are emerging axes for improved radiochemical analyses related to D&D issues. Two microsystem-based protocols were developed for the selective recovery of 55Fe from radioactive samples by solvent extraction. Both protocols were tested on iron solutions in two different microchips. The yields of Fe extraction were compared with macroscale batch experiments. Better performances with more than 80% of iron extracted were obtained with the second protocol, which is based on a reactive transfer of the iron cation, and more suited to the use of microchannels and very low contact times. This study already demonstrate the high potential of microfluidic technology to improve analytical operations on D&D samples. This method will further be validated with radioactive samples.

Soybeans have become widly important and popular due to a high demand of plant protein and fiber. Besides, grains of soybean contain abundance of vitamines, minerals and bioactive compounds such as isoflavone, gama- aminobutyric acid... However, some antinutrient compounds such as tripsin inhibitor and phytate are available in these grains. In this paper, nutrient compounds (protein, lipid, polysaccharide and dissolved minerals) and enzymes of early germinating seeds of soybean varieties (DT84 and DT2008) were evaluated and compared to those of non-germinating beans in order to determine a suitable germinating period for food processing. Experimental results showed that: Activities of enzymes (protease, amylase and phytase) in early germinating soybeans were higher than those in dry beans. Those enzymes have made major changes in nutrient compounds of soybeans: proteins, polysaccharides and lipids reduced. Especially, the content of phytate, an antinutrient factor, reduced signicantly (17.0-48.9% in DT84 variety and 28.0-60.7% in DT2008 variety) during early germinating period of soybeans. However, easy uptake minerals (calcium, iron and zinc ions), reduced sugars and peptides were significantly increased. In detail, the increase in dissolve iron cation was 10.31-12.13%, calcium cation was 31.56-35.75% and zinc cation was 31.38-43.32%. These results confirmed the positive effect of germinating soybeans in food processing.

Some organic pollutant in aqueous wastewater inhabitant biological treatment, catalyst wet air oxidation is a method to treat this waste. Al-Fe pillared Iraqi clays with different Fe content were prepared. Aluminum was mixed with iron in different molar ratio Fe/Al (1:9- 2:8- 3:7- 4-6- 5:5) for each regions. These clays collected from different location in Iraq (Anbar, Erbil, Mosel, Baghdad, and Basra), the results of some properties studied for natural and pillared clay, from X-Ray- Fluorescence (XRF) show that iron cation replaces some Ca in the clay, and from X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) show the Calcite types of Iraqi clays. constructs clusters of active ingredient which dramatically clear on the catalytic surface for all catalyst types show through photos of catalysts by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), the best molar ratio of Fe/Al in which give strong interaction between Fe and Al in the pillared were (0.5-0.4-0.3-0.3 and 0.2) for (Mosul-Basra -Anbar-Baghdad and Erbil) respectively. This ratio gives high surface area, and pore size in mesopore. It is concluded that clay and silty clay (Mosul clay) consider the best catalyst due to higher activity and stability through experiment of CWAO in batch reactor, with operation condition 150°C, 2.5 Mpa, Ccat equal to 7 mg/l.

Tetragonal Tungsten Bronze structure TTB-type structure has attracted interest by the high anisotropy of the crystal structure. The dielectric characterization of iron-doped niobate of TTB-type structure, with stoichiometry KSr2(Fe0.25Nb4.75)O15-δ, prepared by Modified Polyol Method was investigated. Nanocrystalline single phase powders were obtained after calcination of the precursor powder at 1150 °C for 10 hours in an oxygen atmosphere. The dielectric characterization was performed by impedance spectroscopy, from room temperature to 600 °C, in the frequency range of 5 Hz to 13 MHz. The permittivity values obtained for KSr2(Fe0.25Nb4.75)O15-δshowed superior to the permittivity values of the KSr2Nb5O15host structure in all temperature range investigated. At room temperature, the permittivity values (2100) of KSr2(Fe0.25Nb4.75)O15-δis two times the permittivity values of KSr2Nb5O15. The substitution of niobium cation by iron cation in the KSr2Nb5O15host structure showed a suppression of the ferroelectric (P4bm)→paraelectric (P4/mbm) phase transition.
