Platinum-doping of hematite (α-Fe2O3) is a popular method to increase the performance of hematite in photoelectrochemical applications. Here we show that the additional charge caused by Pt4+ is balanced by an Fe3+ vacancy.

The use of critical point drying is rapidly becoming a popular method of preparing biological samples for scanning electron microscopy. The procedure is rapid, and produces consistent results with a variety of samples. The preservation of surface details is much greater than that of air drying, and the procedure is less complicated than that of freeze drying. This paper will present results comparing conventional air-drying of plant specimens to critical point drying, both of fixed and unfixed material. The preservation of delicate structures which are easily damaged in processing and the use of filter paper as a vehicle for drying will be discussed.

The trial-and-roulette method is a popular method to extract experts’ beliefs about a statistical parameter. However, most studies examining the validity of this method only use ‘perfect’ elicitation results. In practice, it is sometimes hard to obtain such neat elicitation results. In our project about predicting fraud and questionable research practices among PhD candidates, we ran into issues with imperfect elicitation results. The goal of the current chapter is to provide an over-view of the solutions we used for dealing with these imperfect results, so that others can benefit from our experience. We present information about the nature of our project, the reasons for the imperfect results, and how we resolved these sup-ported by annotated R-syntax.

Now the coal mine gas risk index and evaluation system has a lot of deficiency. The paper establishes a coal mine gas risk index system and explains the meaning of each index on the basis of analysis of gas accident for recent years. Fuzzy comprehensive evaluation has become an effective and popular method, so the paper evaluates the coal mine gas accident risk using fuzzy mathematical safety evaluation, and takes this method in six mines of one group, at last the paper provides some suggestions for this method

Recent years, the image sparse representation has been the popular method in the study of image representation, which has put forward a new idea in the image denoising. Its basic principle is that the original image has the sparse representation under the proper over-complete dictionary. Filter out the noise, we should find out the sparse representation of the image through the design of the dictionary. Its mechanism is that one hand the useful information of the image would be effectively expressed because of the sparse decomposition algorithm based on the redundant dictionary. The other the noise would not be expressed through the dictionary atoms. We do the image denoising according to the image sparse representation. Because of the superiority of the adaptive dictionary algorithm in the image, in this paper, we discuss the over-complete dictionary training algorithm. And we prove the effectiveness through the MATLAB.

Attitudes towards necropsy have been shown to be more favourable amongst those relatives preferring cremation as a method of disposal compared to those with a preference for burial. In a two-year retrospective study, no significant relationship was found between funeral preferences (burial or cremation) and clinical necropsy request outcome when age, sex and religion were taken into account. Potential religious objections to necropsy were infrequent and cremation was found to have become the most popular method of disposing of the dead during a period when local clinical necropsy rates have continued to decline. Funeral preference is unlikely to have been a significant factor in the decline in clinical necropsy rates.

Abstract Active NPA measurements of the fast ion distribution using the neutral beam as an additional charge exchange target are discussed. Expressions for the calculation of the NPA signal based on the fast ion distribution and for the reconstruction of the fast ion distribution from the NPA signal are provided. Demonstration of the described approach is carried out on the Globus-M2 spherical tokamak, where a scanning system for the NPAs was recently installed. Main features of the active NPA application on Globus-M2 are considered. The energy and spatial distributions of fast deuterium ions at dedicated pitch angles are obtained and compared with the calculated ones. Key traits of the obtained distributions are considered and explained.

Purpose To survey ophthalmologists in the European Union to determine their fixed combination (FC) preferences. Methods A multiple-choice survey was sent to randomly chosen ophthalmologists throughout the European Union and bordering countries by electronic mail delivery. Ophthalmologists were resent the survey on two more occasions if no response was obtained. Results In total, 50 surveys were received from 530 distributed (9.4% response) from 16 countries. More ophthalmologists prescribed an FC as second (80%) or third choice (64%) therapy than first choice (30%, p=0.0036). As first (p<0.0001) and third choice (p=0.011), the dorzolamide/timolol FC was most commonly prescribed, while as second choice the latanoprost/timolol FC (p<0.0001) was most popular. Overall, 98% (49/50) of doctors believed FC therapy improved patient care most often by better compliance (n=49) and quality of life (n=48, p<0.0001). Most ophthalmologists believed that there was a difference in efficacy between the FC products (32/50, 64%) with the most effective being the bimatoprost/timolol FC (n=12, 24%, p=0.029). However, fewer ophthalmologists perceived safety differences between the products (34/50, 68%). For prostaglandins, dosing time was suggested in the morning by 18 (36%) ophthalmologists and in the evening by 24 (48%) (p=0.35). Conclusions FCs in the European Union are a potentially popular method to reduce intraocular pressure, being prescribed most commonly as second or third choice therapy. The perceived advantages to FC therapy are greater compliance to the medicine and improved patient quality of life.
