Although Darwin‘s evolutionary mutation theory has been widely accepted, many endeavors tried to challenge it. With more and more observation of successful hybridization and hybrids, the sexual isolation between species has become vague. The mechanism of evolution has been expanded from the classical model of evolution to multiple routes of speciation. Furthermore, a fundamental crossbreeding theory has been raised and proved by two lines of evidences: paleopolyploidy and fan-shaped spectrum of species. Ancient genome duplications are widespread throughout eukaryotic lineages, particularly in plants. The genome polyploidization can break through the sexual incompatibility between diploid counterparts to hybridize and produce new species. By comparing characteristics, all species in every taxon, both in the extinct fossil and extant organisms, can be arranged into fan-shaped spectrum according to their similarity: left primitive type-middle advanced type-right primitive type. The species are primitive at the two ends and advanced at the middle. The primitive two species always resemble two types of more primitive species that can be confirmed as their ancestors respectively, and the middle species is half similar to the two ancestors respectively. These suggest that the species in the spectrum come from two different ancestors by crossbreeding and gene combination. As a sum, advanced species originated from crossbreeding of two primitive ancestors, by major method of polyploidization, and proved by results of fan-shaped spectrum of species. Then, sex is the cause, force and opportunity for evolution.

In this work, using polymer 3D printing, we obtained ceramic parts of complex shape with the topology of a triple periodic minimal surface (TPMS), of the “Schwarz primitive” type. The technology of manufacturing ceramic products from a diamond-silicon carbide composite ("Ideal") with the geometry of TPMS by pressing is described. The properties of 3D ceramics are similar to those of a monolithic material.

Abstract Spider capture silk is a kind of natural scaffold material that outperforms almost any synthetic material in its combination of strength and elasticity. Among the various kinds of silk threads, the cribellar thread is the most primitive type of prey-capturing thread found in spider webs. We analyze the functional organization of the sieve-like cribellum spigots and a specialized comb bristles of calamistrum for capture thread production in the titanoecid spider Nurscia albofasciata. It's outer surface of the cribellum is covered with thousands of tiny spigots, and this cribellum plate produces the non-sticky threads which composed of thousands of finest nanofibers. Average length of the cribellum spigot in N. albofasciata is 10 µm, and each cribellate spigot appeared as singular, long shafts with pagoda-like tiered tips. Each spigot has five distinct segments as a definitive characteristic of this spider. This segmented and flexible structure not only allows it to bend by itself and join together with adjacent spigots, but also enable to draw the silk fibrils from its cribellum with a row of leg bristles of calamistrum to form a cribellar prey capture thread.

Night active insects inspired the development of image enhancement methods that uncover the information contained in dim images or movies. Here, I describe a novel bionic night vision (NV) algorithm that operates in the spatial domain to remove noise from static images. The parameters of this NV algorithm can be automatically derived from global image statistics and a primitive type of noise estimate. In a first step, luminance values were ln-transformed, and then adaptive local means’ calculations were executed to remove the remaining noise without degrading fine image details and object contours. Its performance is comparable with several popular denoising methods and can be applied to grey-scale and color images. This novel algorithm can be executed in parallel at the level of pixels on programmable hardware.

Chapter 7 identifies a principle that governs much of Socrates’ discussion in the Philebus and shows how it is at work in 31b–36c, where he discusses bodily pleasures of restoration and begins discussion of psychic pleasures. That is, he starts with the most primitive type of experience in which the soul just passively receives influence from the body (Philebus’ focus in life), and gradually points out more and more significant ways in which the soul works independently from the body. Such a procedure is meant to familiarize Protarchus with Socrates’ viewpoint from which various workings of the soul are valued independently of their power to promote pleasure. To prepare the discussion, the chapter first argues that the Philebus presents no substantial unitary account of pleasure. In particular, the account in terms of restoration of a harmony and the account in terms of filling do not overlap exactly.

Andamia heteroptera, known as rockskipper fish, is one of amphibious fish. Most of amphibious fish use caudal fin to facilitate locomotion in land and water. The modification is fusion of os hypural and reduction-fusion os epural and uroneurals. The aim of this study was to  acces skeleton and musculature structure of A. heteroptera caudal fin. Alizarin red-Alcian blue staining revealed that caudal fin of A. heteroptera has wider spina hemalis and spina neuralis support the locomotion. There is modification of caudal fin structure for support the locomotion. Caudal fin musculature of A. heteroptera is identified as primitive type, since its lack of musculus hypochordal longitudinalis.

AbstractThree-dimensional genome organization plays an important role in many biological processes. Yet, how the genome is packaged at the molecular level during mammalian spermatogenesis remains unclear. Here, we performed Hi-C in seven sequential stages during mouse spermatogenesis. We found that topological associating domains (TADs) and chromatin loops underwent highly dynamic reorganization. They displayed clear existence in primitive type A spermatogonia, disappearance at pachytene stage, and reestablishment in spermatozoa. Surprisingly, even in the absence of TADs and chromatin loops at pachytene stage, CTCF remained bound at TAD boundary regions (identified in primitive type A spermatogonia). Additionally, many enhancers and promoters exhibited features of open chromatin and transcription remained active at pachytene stage. A/B compartmentalization and segmentation ratio were conserved in different stages of spermatogenesis in autosomes, although there were A/B compartment switching events correlated with gene activity changes. Intriguingly, A/B compartment structure on the X chromosome disappeared during pacSC, rST and eST stages. Together, our work uncovered a dynamic three-dimensional chromatin organization during mouse spermatogenesis and suggested that transcriptional regulation could be independent of TADs and chromatin loops at specific developmental stages.

Cryptographic hashing modes come in many flavors, including Merkle-Damgård with various types of strengthening, Merkle trees, and sponge functions. As underlying primitives, these functions use arbitrary functions, permutations, or block ciphers. In this work we provide three simple proofs, one per primitive type, that cover all modes where the input to the primitive consists of message bits, chaining value bits, and bits that only depend on the mode and message length. Our approach generalizes and simplifies over earlier attempts of Dodis et al. (FSE 2009) and Bertoni et al. (Int. J. Inf. Sec. 2014). We prove tight indifferentiability bounds for modes using each of these three primitive types provided that the mode satisfies some easy to verify conditions.
