Maternal Knowledge, Attitude and Practices toward Free Sugar and the Associations with Free Sugar Intake in Children

Research addressing factors related to free sugar (FS) consumption among children in Saudi Arabia is lacking. We aimed to evaluate maternal knowledge, attitude, and practices toward FS and the associations with children’s intake of FS. This cross-sectional study included 424 Saudi children aged 6–12 years and their mothers. Data related to maternal knowledge, attitude, and practices were collected using an online survey. Data concerning children’s habitual intake of FS were collected through phone interviews using a validated food frequency questionnaire. Limited knowledge on FS was observed among mothers of children [median 7.00 [interquartile range 6.00–8.00] out of 11.0. Maternal knowledge was not correlated with maternal attitude or practices toward FS. Maternal knowledge towards FS did not predict children’s intake of FS, whereas maternal attitude and practices toward limiting the consumption of FS predicted lower intake of FS among Saudi children, particularly the FS consumed from solid food sources (B: −5.73 [95% confidence interval (CI): −9.79 to −1.66]) and (B: −6.85 [95% CI: −11.9 to −1.80]), respectively. Despite the limited knowledge pertaining to FS among mothers in Saudi Arabia, they were making efforts to limit their children’s consumption of FS.

Hubungan Pengetahuan Ibu, Sikap Ibu, dan Dukungan Petugas Kesehatan Terhadap Pemberian ASI Eksklusif di Kota Malang Tahun 2019

Exclusive breast-feeding is recommended for at least six months in order to suppress the mortality and morbidity rates of children. Among the factors that influenced exclusive breast-feeding were maternal knowledge, maternal attitude, and the support of health-care workers. According to data in Malang city of 2018, Cisadea Public Health Centre had the lowest rate of exclusive breast-feeding. Hence, the study was conducted to know the relationship between maternal knowledge, maternal attitude, and the support of health care workers to exclusive breast-feeding. Research was conducted by correlational analytic methods and used cross sectional approach with purposive sampling technique. The mother of six to twelve months-old children through July 2020 and recorded in Cisadea Public Health Centre were the subject of this study. After taking the data by disseminating the questionnaire using a Google form on 30 samples, a bivariate analysis was conducted with the Chi square test. The results showed that there was a correlation between maternal knowledge and exclusive breast-feeding (p equal 0.046) and between maternal attitude and exclusive breast-feeding (p equal 0.041). While a bivariate analysis between health care workers’ support and exclusive breast feeding was obtained p equal 1,000 so that there was no meaningful relationship was found. Abstrak: Pemberian Air Susu Ibu (ASI) eksklusif direkomendasikan selama paling sedikit enam bulan dengan tujuan untuk menekan angka mortalitas dan morbiditas anak. Beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhi pemberian ASI eksklusif antara lain adalah pengetahuan ibu, sikap ibu, dan dukungan petugas kesehatan. Berdasarkan data di Kota Malang tahun 2018, Puskesmas Cisadea adalah puskesmas yang paling rendah pemberian ASI eksklusif. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan mengetahui hubungan antara pengetahuan ibu, sikap ibu, dan dukungan petugas kesehatan terhadap pemberian ASI eksklusif. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode analitik korelasional dan pendekatan cross sectional ini dengan teknik sampling purposive. Ibu dengan balita umur 6-12 bulan sampai bulan Juli 2020 dan tercatat di Puskesmas Cisadea merupakan subjek penelitian ini. Setelah pengambilan data dengan menyebar kuesioner menggunakan google form kepada 30 sampel, dilakukan analisis bivariat dengan uji Chi square. Hasil penelitian didapatkan ada hubungan yang bermakna antara pengetahuan ibu dan pemberian ASI eksklusif (p sama dengan 0,046) dan antara sikap ibu dengan pemberian ASI eksklusif (p sama dengan 0,041). Sedangkan analisis bivariat antara dukungan petugas kesehatan dan pemberian ASI eksklusif didapatkan hasil p sama dengan 1,000 sehingga tidak ditemukan adanya hubungan yang bermakna.

Characteristics of Maternal Attitude linked to Values-Based

Objective. Finding out the characteristics of maternal attitude towards adolescents in relation to their gender, family composition and place of living, as well as to value orientations of the adolescents. Background. Taking in account the ongoing discussions on the upbringing role of the family and growing interest to the phenomena of modern childhood and parenting revealing of the main aspects of child-parent relations and their influence on value orientations of adolescents seems to be important. Study design. Maternal attitude (within its measurements of emotional involvement and overprotection) in relation to value orientations of modern adolescents was investigated. Main statistical procedures used were exploratory factor analysis and correlation analysis. Participants. The survey was undertaken on the sample of 7384 adolescents (mean age 16,3, 42% male) living in several Federal Regions of Russia. Measurements. Russian-language version of PBI (Parental Bonding Inventory) questionnaire, author’s scale “Proverbs”. Results. According to the obtained results the evaluation given to maternal attitude by the adolescents is significantly related to their gender, family structure and place of living. Higher estimates of maternal acceptance are positively correlated with adolescents’ values-based orientations linked to justice, support and diligence. Contrarily, the subjects who described their mothers like overprotecting were more inclined to the mindset based on self-adjustment, gaining personal beneficiaries and strong self-centration. Conclusions. There is a significant relation between maternal attitude and value orientations of modern adolescents.

Once her intellectual maternity is related to the MA program at National School of Political and Administrative Studies in Bucharest, the text is offering a reflective image of the evolution and the results of the research in the last decades at NSPSPA, as well as its impact beyond the academic space.

Maternal Attitude to a Frequently Ill Child of Preschool Age

Objective: to study the characteristics of the maternal attitude to the often ill child of preschool age. Research methods: Test-questionnaire of parental relationship - ORO (A. Ya. Varga, V. V. Stolin), Analysis of family education - DIA (E. G. Eidemiller and V. V. Yustitskis). The results showed that the maternal attitude has its own specificity in families with often sick children and is manifested in the following features of the maternal attitude to sick children. Mothers who are often ill children often project the same qualities that they themselves consider unacceptable. Mother can manifest hypoprotection in relation to the child, that is, the emotional rejection of the child, the superficial interest in his affairs. At the level of the trend, the tendency of mothers to establish symbiotic relationships with often ill preschool children was revealed. The great practical significance of the study lies in highlighting the direction of the provision of psychological assistance to both the child and, above all, the mother of the often ill child in order to correct her maternal attitude.
