The study investigated the effect of the Bocce game on developing perceptual-motor ability and object control of adolescents with mental retardation. The subjects of the research were 15 adolescents with moderate Mental Retardation status (Age =16.4±1.59; IQ 54±.5). The study used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pre-test post-test design. The analysis was conducted by using a T-test. The instrument used in this study was an observation employing an observation checklist adapted from Gallahue’s (1982) assessment checklist to measure perceptual-motor ability. A test was also employed to measure object control, including an underhand roll ball (grounder) test on the target using a Bocce ball with a 4-meter distance. The intervention of Bocce Game was given for 12 sessions. Each session lasted for 2 hours, 3 days per week. The statistical analysis showed the significant effect of the Bocce game on developing perceptual-motor ability (2.73 2.145) and object control (22.85 2.145). For that reason, it concludes that there is a significant effect of the Bocce game on perceptual-motor ability and object control of adolescents with mental retardation.

How do the children with mild and moderate mental retardation recognize and comprehend the external reality? How do they communicate their abilities of representation and exhibit their competencies? What kind of Practical skills do they possess? With what practical skills do they interact? These are some of the seminal questions in the contemporary discourse on children with mental retardation. This study is an attempt to grapple with some of the above questions, related to the practical adaptive behaviour of children with mental retardation. In social and domestic lives, the practical skills are important, and this article is to study the comparison of various domains of mentally retarded individuals with different degrees of retardation such as mild, moderate, severe, and profound. To carry out this research work a sample of 60 children with mental retardation are randomly selected, from two sub-populations i.e., mild and moderate children with mental retardation. This article mainly focuses on the practical adaptive behavior of children with mild and moderate mental retardation to their level of mental retardation, gender, level of the parent's education, and years of schooling. This research helped us to identify certain gaps in the existing knowledge. It was found based on the conducted research that the majority of the children with mild mental retardation exhibited practical behavior most frequently by participating in most of the classroom practical activities. It is also very important for us to realize that these children whose exceptionalities and disabilities can also be helped with good suggestions so, that they can lead a happy and productive life. From the analysis and testing of the hypothesis, it is evident that the variable 'gender' does not have any influence on children's practical skills. Irrespective of various backgrounds both the boys and girls are equally getting involved in the different practical activities, this may be the reason for the absence of gender discrimination in this context. It can be concluded that children with mental retardation exhibit delays in all aspects of practical skills management compared to non-retarded children and it is felt that if some verbal and non-verbal prompts are provided, these children can manage practical acts well in familiar situations.

Article visualizations:

Mental retardation (MR) is a condition where the cessation of mental development occurs or is incomplete, mainly marked by the disruption of skill during development, affecting intelligence (cognitive, language, motor, and social abilities). Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of motoric and physical posture development disorders caused by cerebral development impairment. Children with MR frequently have a co-occuring CP. In this case report, a 6 years old girl consulted to the psychiatric department because of emotional irritability. The patient was seen limping on one side, screaming, moving everywhere, uncooperative, imperfect sentence, not able to draw well and would scream in anger if not get what she wants. Since birth, she has weakness on her left side of the body, has a gross motor delay, still unable to take off her clothes. The patient was born through vaginal delivery at 8 months gestational age with premature rupture of membrane, cried spontaneously. During the pregnancy, the mother had routine antenatal care from the midwife and was said to be fine. The patient was diagnosed with moderate mental retardation with a significant behavioral disorder that requires attention or therapy. Pharmacological therapy of risperidone 0.3 milligram, vitamin B6 10 milligram, and folic acid 1 milligram all are taken once daily oral. MR can have a co-occuring CP and need to be treated. The treatment should consist of mental and physical therapy, as well as rehabilitation.

The article is devoted to the problem of aggressive behavior of adolescents with mental retardation. Attention is paid to this problem because children with mental retardation due to aggressive behavior and inability to control their own emotions, are maladapted in the behavioral sphere, which leads to problems throughout socialization. It is outlined that it is difficult for such children to find friends and there are problems in communicating with adults, which in later life will have a very harmful effect on the self-consciousness of children. That is why it is necessary to find ways to solve this problem. For this purpose, a correctional and developmental program has been developed. It will help to reduce the level of aggression in adolescents with moderate mental retardation. This article describes in detail the structure of the programme, as children with moderate mental retardation tend to forget quickly understood, the software takes into account this feature and for each class there is a revision of exercises replacing one by new one. The article also provides an example of one lesson from the correctional and developmental program, which provides a visual representation of the content of correctional and developmental work, as well as describes the diagnostic work. The term of its implementation is specified, as well as the age target. Methods. Analysis of psychodiagnostic techniques that allowed us to determine the degree of severity of the studied emotional state, experiment, observation and comparison. The experiment was conducted on the basis of MBEI "Secondary school of Idrinskoye", which involved 15 pupils (4 girls and 11 boys) with mental retardation from 6 to 9 grades, aged 12 to 15 years. Results. When using various methods, adolescents in the test group have a decrease in the frequency of aggressive behavior. It is also noted that children are less likely to use abusive language to express their emotions.
