This research aims at examining how the cognitive stylistic model of analysis can be useful in the interpretation of African skits. The analytical process reveals how viewers make interpretive connections between the text-world and the real world, by bringing their experience and background knowledge to interact with the text. Two skits – one Nigerian and one Ghanaian – were purposively retrieved from YouTube for the analysis, using a qualitative approach within the cognitive stylistic framework of Text World Theory. We discovered a congruence of the cognitive faculty, experience, and epistemic perceptions leading to the construction of the discourse worlds of the skits.

The article discusses the principles of interdisciplinary relations required to train the students of "Management in business of design", who specialize in the fashion industry. A description of a tested methodology of a design project on research and definition of the "DNA of fashion brands" is provided. The article substantiates the application of the project method in business education and design education, which has established itself as effective in training future specialists at different levels of professional training. This method provides the opportunity to integrate students into the creative process and motivate them to solve unconventional problems. Working on this project in a group allows students to acquire teamwork skills and get acquainted with the functioning of global manufacturers of clothing and accessories. The result of the project is a presentation in which all stages of research, analytical process.

This research aims to provide an osteoarchaeological analysis of the human skeletons found at the prehistoric site of Leang Kado‘ 4 in Simbang karst area, Maros, South Sulawesi. As a part of bioarchaeological studies, the analysis included the determination of sex, age at death, average height, racial affinity, and the minimum number of individuals at the site as part of the burial activities. The research employed the analytical process that is commonly carried out in bioarchaeological and physical anthropological studies. The analytical process consists of identification, measurement, comparison, and estimation of the minimum number of individuals in a data set.  It is concluded that the human skeletal remains at Leang Kado‘ 4 site share several similarities with two human races, i.e. Sahul-Pacific race also known as Australo-Papuan or Australomelanesoid and Asian or Mongoloid race. It is expected that all this data can be used as a base for developing policies oriented to the development of the national character and culture by emphisizing the diversity of the people’s origins, which is supported by data on human skeletal remains.

AbstractAs the number of artificial intelligence (AI) applications increases rapidly and more people will be affected by AI’s decisions, there are real needs for novel AI systems that can deliver both accuracy and explanations. To address these needs, this paper proposes a new approach called eXplainable Mapping Analytical Process (XMAP). Different from existing works in explainable AI, XMAP is highly modularised and the interpretability for each step can be easily obtained and visualised. A number of core algorithms are developed in XMAP to capture the distributions and topological structures of data, define contexts that emerged from data, and build effective representations for classification tasks. The experiments show that XMAP can provide useful and interpretable insights across analytical steps. For the binary classification task, its predictive performance is very competitive as compared to advanced machine learning algorithms in the literature. In some large datasets, XMAP can even outperform black-box algorithms without losing its interpretability.

It is necessary to locate microplastic particles mixed with beach sand to be able to separate them. This paper illustrates a kernel weight histogram-based analytical process to determine an appropriate neural network to perform tiny object segmentation on photos of sand with a few microplastic particles. U-net and MultiResUNet are explored as target networks. However, based on our observation of kernel weight histograms, visualized using TensorBoard, the initial encoder stages of U-net and MultiResUNet are useful for capturing small features, whereas the later encoder stages are not useful for capturing small features. Therefore, we derived reduced versions of U-net and MultiResUNet, such as Half U-net, Half MultiResUNet, and Quarter MultiResUNet. From the experiment, we observed that Half MultiResUNet displayed the best average recall-weighted F1 score (40%) and recall-weighted mIoU (26%) and Quarter MultiResUNet the second best average recall-weighted F1 score and recall-weighted mIoU for our microplastic dataset. They also require 1/5 or less floating point operations and 1/50 or a smaller number of parameters over U-net and MultiResUNet.

Galaxolide (HHCB) and tonalide (AHTN), two popular synthetic musk compounds, have been widely detected in the environment, which would pose a potential hazard to the ecosystem. To develop a robust analytical methodology for such emerging micropollutants is very important to investigate their presence and transformation in water. In this study, an analytical process of solid-phase extraction (SPE) coupled with gas chromatography (GC) was developed to determine trace levels of HHCB and AHTN in water. Specifically, the target compounds in test solutions were firstly extracted by SPE cartridges, followed by an eluting and redissolving process. Then, the enriched solutions were analyzed using a GC system with a flame ionization detector (FID). This analytical process demonstrated good recoveries for both compounds with mean recoveries of 104.7 ± 5.1% and 102.9 ± 4.8% for HHCB and AHTN, respectively. Above all, the SPE-GC analytical process proposed in this study provides a reliable method to assess the performance of future treatment trials.
