The results of rhenium (VII) solvent extraction with synergistic mixtures of octyl alcohol and ketone from the high acid chloride and sulphate solutions with high accompanying metals (platinum and molybdenum) content, obtained from leaching of rhenium-containing wastes, were presented. It is shown that synergistic coefficients at rhenium solvent extraction by mixtures of 30–50 % v/v 2-octanol in 2-octanone were not exceeded 1.2–1.3. However, such mixtures recovered fewer impurities of Pt (IV) and Mo (VI), and the separation factors reached 16.0 and 573.2. Besides, mixtures of alcohol and ketone are characterized by higher rhenium (VII) capacity than the alcohol alone.

Composite membranes play a very important role in the separation, concentration, and purification processes, but especially in membrane reactors and membrane bioreactors. The development of composite membranes has gained momentum especially through the involvement of various nanoparticles, polymeric, oxide, or metal, that have contributed to increasing their reactivity and selectivity. This paper presents the preparation and characterization of an active metal nanoparticle-support polymer type composite membrane, based on osmium nanoparticles obtained in situ on a polypropylene hollow fiber membrane. Osmium nanoparticles are generated from a solution of osmium tetroxide in tert-butyl alcohol by reduction with molecular hydrogen in a contactor with a polypropylene membrane. The composite osmium-polypropylene hollow fiber obtained membranes (Os-PPM) were characterized from the morphological and structural points of view: scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high resolution SEM (HR-SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis (EDAX), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Fourier transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry (TGA, DSC). The process performance was tested in a redox process of p-nitrophenol and 10-undecylenic (10-undecenoic) acid, as a target substance of biological or biomedical interest, in solutions of lower aliphatic alcohols in a membrane contactor with a prepared composite membrane. The characteristics of osmium nanoparticles-polypropylene hollow fiber membranes open the way to biological and biotechnological applications. These membranes do not contaminate the working environment, operate at relatively low temperatures, provide a large contact area between reactants, allow successive oxidation and reduction operations in the same module, and help to recover the reaction mass by ultrafiltration. The results obtained show that the osmium-polypropylene composite membrane allows the reduction of p-nitrophenol or the oxidation of 10-undecylenic acid, the conversion depending on the concentration in the lower aliphatic alcohol, the nature of the lower aliphatic alcohol, and the oxidant or reducing flow through the membrane contactor.

Research into the solvent extraction of iron(III) from a chloride solution after bauxite HCl leaching by neutral oxygen-containing extractants and their mixtures were studied and the iron(III) extraction degree from chloride solutions using alcohols is presented. The effect of dilution of alcohol with a ketone by an extraction mixture in relation to its effectiveness was investigated. The iron(III) was efficiently extracted by the mixture of 1-octanol and 1-decanol (70%) with 2-undecanone (30%) from hydrochloric bauxite leach liquor at an O:A ratio = 2-4:1 at an iron(III) concentration of 7.4 g/L and 6 M HCl. For the removal of iron-containing organic phase from impurities (Al, Ca, Cr) that are co-extracted with iron(III), we used two step scrubbing at O:A = 5:1 by 7 M HCl as a scrub solution. The iron(III) stripping at the O:A ratio is shown. Using counter-current cascade of extractors, it was possible to obtain an FeCl3 solution with the iron(III) content of 90.5 g/L and total impurities less than 50 mg/L.

The densities (ρ), speeds of sound (u), and viscosities (η) have been measured for ternary liquid mixtures of tetrahydrofuran in cyclohexanone with 1-hexanol and 1-octanol at 303.15-313.15 K over the entire range of mole fractions and at atmospheric pressure 0.1 MPa. These experimental data have been used to estimate the thermophysical properties of heterocyclic compounds with aliphatic alcohols at T = 303.15, 308.15 and 313.15 K. Preliminary data was used to assess the excess free volume, internal pressure and free energy of Gibbs, which were discussed in light of the molecular interaction surviving in the mixtures. Analysis of each of the two contributions, namely interaction, free volume VE showed that the contributions are positive for all systems. The variations of these parameters with the composition and the temperature were discussed with regard to the intermolecular interactions prevailing in these mixtures. These values also indicate the formation of a hydrogen bonding (C=O......OH) between the hydrogen atom of aliphatic alcohol of 1-hexanol/1-octanol and oxygen atom of heterocyclic compounds tetrahydrofuran in cyclohexanone in the ternary liquid mixtures.

The title compound, C42H37NO2, crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group P212121 with one molecule in the asymmetric unit. An intramolecular hydrogen bond orients the phenol hydroxyl group toward the imine nitrogen. The aliphatic alcohol is engaged in a weak intramolecular hydrogen bond with the imine nitrogen.
