This study developed a nonlinear behavior prediction model for elasto-plastic steel coil dampers (SCDs) using artificial neural networks (ANN). To train the ANN, first, the input and output data of the behavior of the elasto-plastic SCD was prepared. This study utilized the design parameters and load–displacement curves of the SCD to train the ANN. The elasto-plastic load–displacement curve of the SCD was obtained from simulation results using an ANSYS workbench. The design parameters (wire diameter, internal diameter, number of active windings, yield strength) of the SCD were defined as the input patterns, while the yield deformation, first stiffness, and second stiffness were output patterns. During learning of the neural network model, 60 datasets of the SCD were used as the learning pattern, and the remaining 21 were used to verify the model. Although this study used a small number of learning patterns, the ANN predicted accurate results for yield displacement, first stiffness, and second stiffness. In this study, the ANN was found to perform very well, predicting the nonlinear response of the SCD, compared with the values obtained from a finite element analysis program.

Abstract In order to accurately detect the abnormal looseness of strapping in the process of steel coil hoisting, an accurate detection method of strapping abnormality based on CCD structured light active imaging is proposed. Firstly, a maximum entropy laser stripe automatic segmentation model integrating multi-scale saliency features is constructed. With the help of saliency detection model, the purpose is to reduce the interference of the environment to the laser stripe and highlight the distinguishability between the stripe and the background. Then, the maximum entropy is used to segment the fused saliency features and accurately extract the stripe contour. Finally, the stripe normal field is obtained by calculating the stripe gradient vector, the stripe center line is extracted based on the stripe distribution normal direction, and the abnormal strapping is recognized online according to the stripe center. Experiments show that the proposed method is effective in terms of detection accuracy and time efficiency, and has certain engineering application value.

Transportation and refining of heavy metal-bearing oil are associated with the problems of localized destruction of metal structures and elements due to corrosion. In the process of equipment operation, it was revealed that premature failure of steel coils of heating tube furnaces at oil refineries and petrochemical plants was associated with insufficient strength and corrosion resistance of the steelwork. The study of the effect that structure and phase composition of 15KH5M-alloy steel elements of heating furnaces at oil refineries have on the corrosion properties, associated with mass loss and localized destructions in the process of heat treatment, allows to develop protective measures and determine heating modes with a rate-limiting step of oxidation. The rate of various corrosion types of 15KH5M steel is used as an indicator to assess the effectiveness of the applied modes of coil heat treatment in order to increase their corrosion resistance and improve their operational characteristics. Conducted experiments on heat treatment of certain steel coil sections allowed to determine rational heating modes for the studied coils, which made it possible to reduce their mass loss and increase corrosion resistance of working surfaces in the process of operation. Proposed heat treatment of steel coils at specified intervals of their operation in the tube furnaces creates conditions for their stable performance and affects the degree of industrial and environmental safety, as well as reduces material costs associated with the repair and replacement of individual assemblies and parts of tube furnaces.

PurposeThis paper propose an algorithm for the multiple silicon steel coils multiperiod two-dimensional lengthwise cutting stock problem (m2DLCSP), so as to minimize the total cost of materials and production.Design/methodology/approachThe authors propose a sequential leftovers utilization correction (SLUC) algorithm for the m2DLCSP. The algorithm primarily considers three optimization strategies. First, it considers usable leftovers to simplify the cutting process and improve material utilization. The total quantity and types of leftovers should be limited in order to avoid leftover overstock. Second, it uses a splice method of items to improve the generated cutting plan. Third, it takes into account operational restrictions in the cutting operations. Operational restrictions include imposing maximum and minimum lengths on the cutting patterns, and the limitation of cutting knives at the slitting machines.FindingsSeveral sets of benchmark with real-world and randomly generated instances are provided to evaluate the algorithm. Compared with literature algorithm and current procedure applied in enterprises, the computational results indicate that proposed algorithm can effectively reduce the total cost, and the computation time is reasonable for practical use.Social implicationsThis algorithm can effectively reduce the total cost.Originality/valueThe proposed method can effectively applied to solve the m2DLCSP and improve the economic efficiency of enterprises.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis waktu yang dibutuhkan forklift untuk membongkar steel coil dari palka kapal sampai ke truck lossing dan mengetahui besaran biaya yang dikeluarkan untuk menyewa forklift pada saat melakukan kegiatan bongkar steel coil. Metode penelitian yang digunakan penelitian ini bersifat kuantitatif dengan memperhitungkan perbandingan Data yang digunakan biaya penggunaan Forklift dengan membeli atau tetap dengan kondisi yang ada yaitu dengan sistem sewa. Berdasarkan hasil analisis diperoleh biaya yang dikeluarkan untuk menyewa forklift pada bulan Januari sebesar Rp. 130.200.000, sedangkan pada bulan februari sebesar Rp. 133.800.000. Jumlah pengeluaran tersebut tentu lebih besar dari biaya yang dikeluarkan untuk melakukan perawatan forklift perbulan. Apabila perusahaan membeli 1 unit forklift 15 ton, maka perusahaan akan menghemat pengeluaran sebesar Rp. 7.600.000 - Rp. 12.000.000.
