The objective of the present study was to investigate the potential of vegetable soybean (Edamame) cultivation in Lithuania. Six soybean varieties were grown in an open field. Our data showed that the plants of the ‘Chiba Green’ variety were the shortest. Such plants had higher chlorophyll index and photosynthesis intensity. Variety ‘Midori Giant’ had more branches than plants of other varieties. The highest yield was produced by the plants of the ‘Chiba Green’ variety. Higher protein content was found in beans of the ‘Chiba Green’ variety. However, there were no differences found in soluble carbohydrates and micro- and macroelement contents between the varieties. In summary, the results revealed that of the tested varieties, the most suitable and useful for the cultivation under Lithuanian climate conditions was the ‘Chiba Green’ vegetable soybean variety.

The article provides a marketing review of the green crops market, analyzes expert-import operations and sales channels for this type of product. The ranking and grouping of the main types of vegetable and melon crops in Ukraine by the indicator of gross production is carried out. Thus, according to the State Statistics Committee, despite the fact that Ukraine produces more than 40 types of vegetable and melon crops, about 10 main vegetable and melon crops, which are in the first group, are grown in masse. Thus, the first group with a gross production of over 1 000 thousand tons included 11 crops: borscht, cucumbers, pumpkins, zucchini and watermelon. The share of this segment in the total gross collection is 96.3%. The second group with a gross production of 100.1 to 1 000 thousand quintals includes such types of vegetable crops as melons, eggplants, sweet corn, leeks, green peas, cauliflower and broccoli, radishes, Chinese cabbage, green peppers. The group’s share in the total production structure is only 3.3%, and in the total sown area does not exceed 8%. The third group (with a gross production of up to 100 thousand centners) is a group of green vegetable crops. The share of this sector of the vegetable market does not reach 0.5% in gross fees. The range of uncommon crops in the markets of Ukraine, especially supermarkets is provided mainly through imports. The scientific novelty is that to study the attitude of consumers to green vegetable products, a sociological survey was conducted and an analysis of the main factors influencing the purchase of this type of product. It was found that when choosing a point of sale, such factors as location, service, quality of service in places of purchase of green products, range, staff qualifications, etc. have a great influence on consumer behavior. The advantages and disadvantages of individual sales channels of greenery are analyzed. The advantages include: convenience, territorial proximity, wide range, price flexibility, product quality, its freshness, etc. Neoliks include: lack of certificates for products, narrow range and unsatisfactory sanitary conditions of trade places. It is found out that at formation of effective model of innovative development of branch of vegetable growing it is necessary to apply the newest methods of selection, new grades and hybrids which have high productive potential, to introduce scientifically proved systems of cultivation and seed production, to master new segments of green cultures and microgreens. The article identifies the main problems and identifies priority areas for the development of the market of green crops for the future.

The article discusses the results of studies of the peculiarities of growing seedlings of green vegetable crops (lettuce, Krupnokochany variety and basil, Crimean Violet variety) in protected ground conditions (year-round glazed greenhouses) on the basis of UNPK Agrocenter of the Saratov State Agrarian University. The difficulty ofgeneration of  seedlings of these vegetable crops is that they are small-seeded (lettuce) and hard-growing (basil), demanding on the soil substrate. To reduce the pesticide load when growing these crops and improve the ecological quality of products, it is recommended to use the most effective growth-regulating preparation  Epin-Extra, which has a stimulating effect that improves the quality of seedlings. It is shown that for growing basil seedlings of the Crimean Violet variety, a soil mixture containing peat - 50%, field soil - 30%, turf soil - 10%, sand - 10% should be used.

The world of technology today has developed quite rapidly with a lot of manufacture and development of various kinds of equipment that are able to help humans do work that is both control and automatic. One example of technological developments is automatic plant watering, smart home, automatic bird feeder, and many more. This study discusses a tool to control water pH levels and nutrients using Arduino in a green vegetable hydroponic system. The sensor used is the pH Electrode E201-C BNC sensor as a reader of pH levels in water, the TDS Meter V.1 sensor as a reader of nutrient density levels in water, and an ultrasonic sensor as a reader of water level in the reservoir to determine the volume of water so that it does not will run out. The software used is the Arduino Uno IDE. The way this tool works is that the input from the sensor will be processed by Arduino and the result is in the form of output conditioning, namely the actuator is on or not.

Background: The risk factors associated with the occurrence of the distinct pathophysiologic subtypes of ischemic stroke are unknown among indigenous Africans. Objective: To identify and quantify the contributions of risk factors for occurrence of ischemic stroke and its etiologic subtypes among West Africans. Methods: The Stroke Investigative Research and Educational Network (SIREN) is a multicenter, case-control study involving 15 sites in Nigeria and Ghana. Cases included adults aged >18 years with CT/MRI confirmed stroke and ischemic strokes were etiologically subtyped using the TOAST protocol. Controls were age-and-gender matched stroke-free adults recruited from the communities in catchment areas of cases. Comprehensive evaluation for vascular, lifestyle and psychosocial factors was performed using standard instruments. We used conditional logistic regression to estimate odds ratios (OR) with 95% CIs. Results: There were 1,721 ischemic stroke cases with a mean age of 62.19 ± 14.03 vs 60.86 ± 13.71 for controls. Using the TOAST etiologic scheme, 867 (50.3%) were small vessel occlusions, 425(24.7%) were large-artery atherosclerotic, 181(10.5%) were cardio-embolic, 204(11.9%) were undetermined and 44(2.6%) were of other determined etiology. The 7 dominant risk factors for ischemic strokes aOR (95%CI) were hypertension 10.76(7.15-16.20), dyslipidemia 5.30(3.86-7.29), diabetes 3.61(2.72-4.80), psychosocial stress 1.68(1.20-2.35), cardiac disease 1.94 (1.25-3.02), meat consumption 2.02(1.54-2.65), green vegetable consumption 0.44(0.33-0.59). Hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, meat consumption and green vegetable intake were confluent factors shared by small-vessel, large-vessel and cardio-embolic ischemic stroke subtypes. Conclusion: We provide empiric evidence of risk factors to be targeted for stroke prevention. Our findings open a vista into future studies aimed at elucidating the genetic factors linked with pathophysiologic subtypes of stroke among Africans.
