Clinical practice guidelines are procedures, ideas, integrating records, multiple interventions, and decisions that are systematically developed to support professional and patient decisions about healthcare appropriate to specific clinical circumstances. The sudden pandemic that occurred in December 2019 that devastated the world forced reflection and globalized intervention. It was necessary, in a short time, to elaborate and disseminate a set of key rules in order to be able to control the coronavirus pandemic, global information, the protection and safety of people, and the treatment of patients and multiple and complex issues brought up in a communication crisis. In this chapter the author evaluates some of the moments of this global communication led by the World Health Organization and supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other entities.

Conclusions. The study analyzes new approaches to the principle of intercultural dialogue for intercultural interaction. It is shown that modern culture enters into dialogue only as a whole, characterized by the unity of meanings, their perfection and certainty. The circumstances under which culture in times of crisis seeks its paradigm in a new way are analyzed. It is emphasized that each culture enters into a dialogue in its own unique manner. It is proved that culture cannot exist without the eternal search for the Other, comparison and collation with it. The need for intercultural communication for the effective development of modern international relations based on mutual respect and tolerance is studied.

Based on a survey conducted among 77 Korean university students, this article examined their usage and awareness of ELF (English as a Lingua Franca), and observed if problems which previous researches have claimed appeared among them. By analyzing data gathered via 2 simple questions and 4 descriptive questions, this study found that the respondents appreciated English as a basic medium for global communication. The respondents also reported various domestic and foreign situations in which they used English to communicate with different interlocutors who spoke different native languages. However, critical issues, such as ownership of English, idealized attitudes toward Standard English, and bias against the varieties of English spoken, all of which have been reported in several empirical researches, were also detected. As globalization extends throughout all areas of our life, and as L2 speakers excel L1 speakers in number as a result, this article calls for more effort to discuss ELF issues in general English education for university students. It also calls for the development of new pedagogical practices. The findings of this study could provide for a meaningful start in that it looked into the real life situations of the students.

US-based transnational corporation Alphabet-Google controls a critical entry point to the Internet, dominating over 90% of the global search market. Google’s global Internet dominance and expansion seem to reaffirm a long-established US-led global communication order. However, this paper argues that the US position is far from secure, as geopolitical rivalries continue to animate and reshape the global communication network.

In many ways, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic mirrors the challenges, lessons and opportunities of the HIV pandemic. In this article, we argue that global pandemics such as COVID-19 and HIV require a global response. We highlight the HIV Online Provider Education (HOPE) programme as an example of the importance of global communication when combating a pandemic. From both the COVID-19 and HIV pandemics, we have learned that to optimise health worldwide, it is necessary to have effective and efficient means of swiftly sharing experiences, expertise, best practices and guidelines. To prepare for the next public health emergency, clinicians and researchers must put in place and promote effective programmes for global communication.
