This research investigates the factors that affect the existence of pinholes in surgical gloves during the manufacturing process. Since eight factors affect the existence of pinholes in surgical gloves, a two-level fractional factorial design 28-4 was used to study the main effects and the first-order interactions of the multiple variables. Multiple linear regressions are used to model the data. This paper also examines the presence of influential points in the data using the influential measures in linear regression such as Cook’s Distance, DFFITS, DFBETAS, Studentized Residual, Standardized Residual, Hadi's measure, and the robust forward search. The impact of influential points is further assessed through deletion of potential influential points and model selection using adjusted R2, information criterion, and stepwise selection to see whether these influential points significantly improved the existing model.

To have information about the soybean productivity over the crop years is essential to define strategies to increase profits and reduce costs and most important to reduce environmental impacts. One form of monitoring is the use of Geostatistical methods, which allow us to obtain maps with more accurate predictions. In this paper, an area of 127.16 ha was studied during six crop years between 2012/2013 and 2017/2018. We found that productivity values vary between crop years, mainly due to uncontrollable climatic factors. The removal of influential points caused changes in the predicted values showed in the maps, and the use of scaled semivariograms allowed us to obtain similar maps to those obtained considering the model without influential points, then there was no need to exclude observations. The use of a model with replicates helped to identify regions where productivity was lower. The use of explanatory variables allowed us to elaborate a more accurate thematic map in the 2017/2018 crop year, which was well evidenced by the prediction standard error map.

The importance of variable selection and regularization procedures in multiple regression analysis cannot be overemphasized. These procedures are adversely affected by predictor space data aberrations as well as outliers in the response space. To counter the latter, robust statistical procedures such as quantile regression which generalizes the well-known least absolute deviation procedure to all quantile levels have been proposed in the literature. Quantile regression is robust to response variable outliers but very susceptible to outliers in the predictor space (high leverage points) which may alter the eigen-structure of the predictor matrix. High leverage points that alter the eigen-structure of the predictor matrix by creating or hiding collinearity are referred to as collinearity influential points. In this paper, we suggest generalizing the penalized weighted least absolute deviation to all quantile levels, i.e., to penalized weighted quantile regression using the RIDGE, LASSO, and elastic net penalties as a remedy against collinearity influential points and high leverage points in general. To maintain robustness, we make use of very robust weights based on the computationally intensive high breakdown minimum covariance determinant. Simulations and applications to well-known data sets from the literature show an improvement in variable selection and regularization due to the robust weighting formulation.

This study will explain the influence of the game on learning, the game points that will be assessed for influence include Engagement, Immersion, Challenge, and Skill. The data used are the results of the questionnaire and the Try Out-UN scores of 12th grade students of SMK 3 Malang. Using the Angry Bird game, respondents will play for about 30 minutes before doing their usual learning activities. This is done in approximately one month. After that the respondent will be asked to fill out a questionnaire which will later be processed by the SEM-PLS method. The result of processing the questionnaire data is how much influence the game has on learning based on the points mentioned above. While the value of Try Out and UN is used to determine the effect of the game on the overall lesson, using the paired t-test method.  After testing, the results obtained are that the game stimulus to learning has a positive effect. And Engagement became the most influential points in the percentage assessment of 32%, followed by Immersion 9.34%, Skill 6.86%, and Challenge 2.25%.

This chapter surveys criticisms raised against moral theory from positions such as virtue ethics, particularism, anti-theory, and Wittgensteinian moral philosophy in order to identify the most central and damaging objections. It locates the origin of theory critique in two classic papers by Iris Murdoch and Elizabeth Anscombe and proceeds to give an overview of the most influential points of criticism from the second half of the twentieth century. This overview is contrasted with an explication of the dominant understanding of moral theory presented in the work of Martha Nussbaum, which allows for an identification of the crucial objections to moral theory, here presented in the form they take in the work of Bernard Williams. The objections are that theories cannot provide a foundation for moral practice, and that they do not possess the authority necessary to serve as action-guiding in any substantial sense. The conclusion of the chapter is that proponents of the dominant understanding of moral theory cannot offer convincing answers to these objections, and that this points to a need to re-evaluate our understanding of both the role and the form of moral theories.

Reading log or the so-called reading journal is a journal to monitor how far the students read within their own pace and time. This study aimed at investigating some influential points of using reading log in order to enhance the students’ ability in writing academic article. The participants of this study were twenty sophomores pursuing their study at Universitas Islam Malang taking Writing IV class. They were asked to fill reading logs given after reading academic articles. They had to read one academic article each day for one week. Questionnaire and interview were used as the instruments to collect the data which were then analyzed descriptive qualitatively. The findings show that reading log is very beneficial for the students specifically when they are reading academic articles.

Dealing with outliers and influential points while fitting regression is recognizing them, identifying the reasons to their existence in the process and employing the best alternatives to lessen their effect to the fitted regression model. In this paper, before considering elimination of outliers and the influential points while fitting a regression, as they contain important information, issues why unusual observations (possible outliers) appear in the process and how to analyze them to detect if they were real outliers, have been discussed thoroughly. And, when detected as outliers and influential points, to investigate and eliminate their effect in the fitted model, analytic procedures; leverage value, studentized residuals and cook's distance were carefully employed to optimize a multiple regression model for rice production forecasting in Nepal. This model was fitted with 35 years (1961-1995) time series data, collected from Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Food and Agriculture Organization Statistics Database, International Rice Research Institute and Department of Hydrology and Metrology which to its end was consisted of the three predictors, price at harvest, rural population and area harvested.Journal of Institute of Science and TechnologyVolume 22, Issue 1, July 2017, Page: 61-65
