A suitable ice slurry fluid with a suitable ice concentration ratio can save operational costs. The design of the optimal ice slurry concentration focuses on finding an evolution strategy, which can further minimize the power consumption of the pump. A theoretical model was established to simulate the effect of different ice concentrations and flow rates on the performance of the pump. The data obtained were fitted by curve-fitting function. The process was modeled in the MATLAB evolutionary strategy algorithm to obtain the configuration scheme of the ice concentration and flow under different refrigeration capacities. The simulation results showed that when the required cooling capacity was 13.889 kWh, ice concentration was set to 19.68%, and flow rate was set to 2.1075 × 10−4 m3/s, the power consumption could be reduced by 23%.

As a result of distributed energy development, the demand for energy storage grows more rapidly. The optimization of energy storage allocation is urgently needed. The economic benefits and characteristics of storage allocation have been thoroughly explored, and a mathematical model of economy was established. The centralized configuration of energy storage can make the best use of surplus electricity and reduce charging loss. The peak cutting and valley filling effect is quite obvious. Furthermore, some allocation strategies of storage were proposed. Based on the data of a user-side transformer and photovoltaic power generation, the cost under different strategies and the configuration scheme with the lowest cost is calculated. The example was used to analyze and compare the benefits under various strategies, and the results show it works in cost-saving. The strategy of similarity storage allocation has a positive effect on energy and cost-saving.

With the increase of the renewable energy penetration (REP) level in the interconnected power grid, the proportion of the grid-connected conventional synchronous generators reduces continuously, resulting in the decrease of the system inertia. The insufficient system inertia brings challenges to the system frequency stability. Battery energy storage systems (BESSs), regarded as the high-quality frequency regulation resource, play an important role in maintaining the frequency stability of the system with the high REP level. To configure the proper power of BESSs in system frequency regulation, a BESS power configuration scheme (PCS) considering the REP constraint is proposed in this paper. In particular, the process to obtain the REP boundary of the interconnected grid on the premise of system frequency stability is included in the PCS, and the optimal power configuration of the BESS is further determined on the analysis of the BESS impact on the REP boundary. Furthermore, a simulation model of the Australian five-area interconnected power grid is built in MATLAB/Simulink, and the proposed REP-constrained PCS is verified and analyzed. At last, the promising results show that the PCS can take full advantages of the BESS in frequency regulation and meet the system requirement of the frequency stability at a particular REP level.

Commutation failure at the inverter side of an MIDC (multi-infeed HVDC) is usually caused by AC system faults. Suppose the converter bus voltage cannot recover to the normal operation level in time: in that case, the commutation failure will then develop into more severe subsequent commutation failures or even DC blocking, which will severely threaten the security and stability of the system. Dynamic reactive power compensation equipment (DRPCE) can offer voltage support during accident recovery, stabilize voltage fluctuation and inhibit any subsequent commutation failure risk. This paper proposes the optimal DRPCE configuration scheme for maximizing both inhibitory effect and economic performance. The simulation results on MATLAB-BPA prove the scheme’s correctness and rationality, which can effectively inhibit the risk of subsequent commutation failure and obtain economic benefits.

AbstractA new reconfigurable architecture for biomedical applications is presented in this paper. The architecture targets frequently encountered functions in biomedical signal processing algorithms thereby replacing multiple dedicated accelerators and reports low gate count. An optimized implementation is achieved by mapping methodologies to functions and limiting the required memory leading directly to an overall minimization of gate count. The proposed architecture has a simple configuration scheme with special provision for handling feedback. The effectiveness of the architecture is demonstrated on an FPGA to show implementation schemes for multiple DSP functions. The architecture has gate count of $$\approx$$ ≈ 25k and an operating frequency of 46.9 MHz.

This paper presents a novel configuration scheme for UPQC using ten switch topology. Generally, two six-switch inverters connected back to back will form the basic power structure of three wire three phase UPQC. But there are some switches which are less utilized all the time. In order to improve the efficiency of the system, or to improve the effective utilization of the IGBTs there is a need to reduce the switch count in the system. The proposed topology uses only ten switches and gives all the results pertaining to twelve switch toplogy. The Simulation results of proposed UPQC Topology are validated through MATLAB/Simulink environment.
