The sorption of sulfur dioxide from the air by the fibrous anion exchangers containing amino groups of different structure and basicity has been comparatively investigated. The most effective sorbents of sulfur dioxide are the anion exchangers with ternary amino groups, which have a high exchange capacity (more than 5 meq/g) and additionally contain secondary amino groups. The anion exchangers with high-base amino groups absorb sulfur dioxide at low relative humidity (30 %) but have low dynamic sorption capicity (up to 1.3 meq/g). The anion exchangers with primary and secondary amino groups absorb sulfur dioxide at high relative humidity (more than 54 %) if their cation exchange capacity is several times less than the anion exchange capacity.

The aim of the study was to assess the effects of input parameters on the value of dynamic sorption capacity of small protective filters used in the civil protection of the Czech Republic. Relative humidity, the concentration of the test substance/air mixture, type of filter, year of manufacture, batch and type of sorbent, were used as the monitored parameters. The measurements were performed using a gas-air mixture bas ed on cyclohexane, ammonia, sulphur dioxide, chlorine and sulfane. MOF, MOF-2, MOF-4, MOF-5 and MOF-6-M filters were used for the measurements. It has been detected that the tested filters in many cases meet the requirements of the relevant Standard for sorption capacity, namely in cases of cyclohexane, sulfane and sulphur dioxide. It has also been established that MOF-4 filters containing medium-grained sorbent SZS-1000 attained lower values of sorption capacity than filters with CHS-5 sorbent.

The study summarizes the results of monitoring the properties of two types of sorbents, BC1 (biochar sample 1) and BC2a (biochar sample 2), prepared by pyrolysis of bamboo biomass (BC1) and as its composite with montmorillonite K10 (BC2a). The main goal was to study their applicability to the Tc (VII) separation from liquid wastes, using NH4ReO4 as a carrier. The research was focused on determining the sorbents surface properties (by XRF (X-ray fluorescence) method and potentiometric titration in order to determine the properties of surface groups—Chemical Equilibrium Model (CEM) and Ion Exchange Model (IExM) models were applied here). As well as monitoring Tc (VII) (+Re(VII)) sorption, especially to determine equilibrium isotherm, the influence of pH and kinetics. The subject of research was also the dynamics of sorption, including its mathematical–physical modeling. Both sorbents have good properties against Tc (VII), however BC2a, due to the presence of montmorillonite, is more advantageous in this respect. It has a higher sorption capacity and faster kinetic investigation. An important finding is that the optimal pH is 2–3, which is related not only to the protonation of surface groups (they have a positive charge), but also to the negative form of the existence of Tc (VII) and Re (VII): TcO4− and ReO4−.

A series of resorcinol-formaldehyde resins (RFR) has been prepared and studied in terms of Cs-137 uptake efficiency from solutions (0.75М NaOH-2.25M NaNO3) intended for processing spent ion-exchangers. Sample synthesized at molar ratio of resorcinol to formaldehyde of 1.8:2.2 and solidified at 210 °C (sample RFR-3-1-210) has shown the best sorption-selective performance and chemical stability. Implementing RFR in dynamic sorption scheme enables to reduce its decay due to short contact time. In dynamic conditions, after feeding 1000 bed volumes of the solution, RFR 3-1-210 maintains its sorption properties after 6 sorption-desorption cycles.

The article describes the synthesis of composite sorbents by immobilizing iron oxide in a polymer matrix with subsequent hydrothermal treatment at a temperature of 175 °C. The sorbents based on magnetite and hematite were synthesized, their magnetic properties and phase composition were evaluated, and the iron content was determined. Sorption characteristics of the composites towards microconcentrations of Sr-90 radionuclide in solutions with different mineralization and pH were investigated. It was shown that the sorbent based on magnetite was the most efficient. In alkaline media with pH above 11, the composite sorbent based on magnetite exhibited increased selectivity towards Sr-90 and proved to be suitable for application under dynamic sorption conditions with subsequent desorption of the radionuclide with a solution of HNO3.
