In the 1970s, the world knew the long-tailed nesokia Nesokia bunnii (Khajuria, 1981) (Rodentia, Muridae) from the Mesopotamian marshes of Garden of Eden in Southern Iraq. This distinct rodent was known from only five voucher specimens collected at the confluence of Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in southern Iraq while its occurrence in Southwestern Iran had never been reported. In the 1990s, a large extent of its natural habitat was catastrophically desiccated and the animal was last seen in the 1970s. Since then, the status of this elusive rodent was shrouded in mystery. In 2007, an extraordinary photograph of a carcass of this species came to the light from Hawizeh Marsh which was interpreted as concrete evidence of the species’ persistence in the marshes of southern Iraq after the desiccation in the last century. In 2021, after more than 40 years, exclusive photographic records of living N. bunnii were obtained for the first time from Central Marshes in southern Iraq and from Edhe’am Marsh in southwestern Iran. The new distribution range is highlighted in this note. Furthermore, the first photographs of living N. bunnii are provided along with notes on its ecology and behavior.

Research on photography with a focus on a city in the state of Tocantins is a way to try to tell of the history of this city, since there is little information or files that reveal part of this history. This research has as its main objective to identify, through photographic records, the history and memory of the city of Tocantinopolis - TO, Brazil. Of a qualitative approach and basic nature, the data collection instruments used were visual sources (photographs) regarding Tocantinopolis - TO, in addition to bibliographic research. Among some results found, the analyzed images revealed part of the history and the memory of this city. The information generated in the analyses helped us to identify visual elements present in the photographs that allowed us to expand the reading and interpretation capacity, which was fundamental to understand the stories, memories and the context that accompany (or accompanied) these images registered in this research.

Abstract It is not possible to increase the surface quality of non-standard gears with curved involute tooth profile produced by 5-axis CNC milling method with standard gear grinding methods due to curved tooth profiles. In this study, the possibilities of increasing the surface quality of non-standard gears with curved involute tooth profile were investigated in order to expand their use in the industry. For this purpose, the target model was produced by using the mathematical parametric equations of the involute curve that forms the profile form of a tooth in the CAD environment. By using the target model, manufacturing codes were derived in the CAM environment, and gears with curved involute tooth profile were produced on a 5-axis CNC machine. Then these gears; The possibilities of increasing the tooth profile surface quality were investigated by applying four different methods, such as precision finishing, co-running in oil, co-running in oil with SiC added, and grinding on a 5-axis CNC machine with a finger grinding tip specially produced for gears. In the oil co-run method, considering the running-in stage for each method, the gears were tested with the help of the designed gearbox, at a revolution speed of 670 rpm, by turning a total of 150,000 turns in 6 periods of 25,000 turns. In the co-start method, the gears at the beginning of the test and at the end of each period; thermal records, noise analysis, photographic records, surface roughness values (Ra, Rz) were measured. In the co-operation methods applied to increase the surface quality, the tooth surface of the gears at the beginning of the test and at the end of each period; photographic records, surface roughness values (Ra, Rz) were measured, noise levels were measured during the test and thermal records were taken. Similarly, in precision machining and grinding methods, photographic recordings of the tooth surface were taken, surface roughness (Ra, Rz) was measured, micrographs were taken in SEM and analyzed after the process. As a result of the tests and analyzes carried out; It has been observed that the surface quality is the best in the process performed using a specially produced finger grinding tip and a CNC grinding machine.

We report seven new country records of species of reptiles on the basis of recent herpetological surveys between 2015 – 2019 in southern Thailand: Gekko (Ptychozoon) cicakterbang, Dasia grisea, and Sphenomorphus sungaicolus from Yala Province; Gonocephalus liogaster, Gekko (Sundagekko) browni, Oligodon signatus, and Xenochrophis maculatus from Narathiwat Province. Our recent findings bring the total number of reptiles recorded in Thailand to 452 species. Furthermore, our results suggest that further intensified herpetological research efforts and international collaborations are required to increase our knowledge on the herpetofaunal diversity in the tropical rain forests of southern Thailand near the border with peninsular Malaysia.

Heritage settlements have long histories that consist of multiple layers of urban layouts, building forms, and culture. Looking at the first layer that formed the initiation stage of the growth becomes a difficult task because of the disguise of other successive layers. This article studies the abandoned village of Tinbak in Qatar that exemplifies a settlement at its initial stage of development. The method of examining a societal normative image of culturally suitable domiciliary development adds to the understanding of a heritage settlement layout. However, the village lacks literature sources and urban and architectural documentation. So, this article presents the first documentation of the tangible characteristics of both urban morphology and architectural typology. Site visits, oral documentation, photographic records and a 3D Faro scanner with a 130 m range were utilized to record and document the physical environment.

The aim of the study is to look at cosmopolitan cities searching for moments of hospitality that take place in cosmopolitan spaces. These moments are understood as the time when acts eliminate socially built barriers and anonymity by making people closer to the establishment of relationships that may result in effective bonds (temporary or long-lasting). Photoethnography was used; 421 photographic records were taken in the five largest Brazilian cities (in economic terms): São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Brasíliaand Curitiba. In total, 130 photos were selected for analysis; twenty of them were chosen to represent the four created categories, representing moments of hospitality in cosmopolitan cities: human, architectonic, environmental and hostility. It is noticeable that, although hospitality is a relationship set among two or more individuals, it does not become effective in the absence of adjacent factors, such as architecture and/or the environment. This outcome also reinforces the thin line between hospitality and hostility, to the extent that the perception of hospitality is dependent on hostility. Thus, we expect to contribute to the reasoning about hospitality in contemporary society, which is marked by exclusion, aggressiveness, hostility and, even, moments of inhospitality.

VISUAL HISTORY OF ARCHEOLOGY IN SERIDÓ  ABSTRACTPhotography is one of the most important records made during an archaeological excavation.
