ABSTRACT: Taking as a starting point the considerations of scholars such as Philippe Descola and Boaventura de Sousa Santos on the need to rethink the relations between humans and non-humans in order to seek alternatives to the self-destructive process known by the controversial label of the Anthropocene, it seems appropriate to look at the Amazon rainforest. Indeed, the Amazonian space is “highly transformational” (Rivière), and there is a frequent ontological instability that blurs the boundaries between species. Narratives of animal experiences, for example, are not only used as a symbolisation of some antagonism or social inequality, but are often perceived as realities. In this article, framed in the field of ecocritical studies, a dialogue will be created between some oral stories whose protagonists are animals and the novel by the Peruvian painter and writer César Calvo de Araújo entitled Paiche (1963), which is also the name of one of the largest fish in the Amazonian rivers. Through these creations of oral and written literature, we will reflect on the theme of social inequalities and class consciousness as a means of rethinking how to inhabit the Earth.

The issues of clarifying the key mechanisms of development and course of generalized periodontitis in different conditions of reactivity of the organism remain relevant. The aim of the research is study of the peculiarities of course of the inflammatory-destructive process in the periodontium according to the dynamics of clinical and paraclinical indicators depending on the state of reactivity of the body in the conditions of modeling hyper- and hyporeaction. Materials and methods. The experiments were performed on 24 adult not purebred dogs weighing 8-12 kg. The animals were divided into three equal groups. In the first group, drugs that disrupt the reactivity of the organism were not used (normoreactivity of the organism). In the second group drugs simulated the state of hyperreactivity, and in the third they provoked the condition of the hyporeactivity of the organism. The condition of periodontal tissues was assessed initially, on the 14th and 28th day of observation of clinical and paraclinical parameters (creviculars liquor, PMA indices, PI Russell, GI Fedorov-Volodkina, Kulazhenko's test). Results. On the 14th day of modelling the states of hyper- and hyporeactivity of the organism a number of differences in the nature of inflammation in periodontal tissues were revealed in animals of different groups. Control of the amount of creviculars liquor increased in 1,1 times, PMA indices, PI Russell, GI Fedorov-Volodkina, Kulazhenko's test, respectively, in 1,12; 1,19; 1,33 and 1,29 times (p <0,05). On the 28th day of the experiment, significant differences in the intensity of the destructive process in animals with unchanged and changed reactivity of the organism attracted attention. Thus, in cases of normoreactivity the depth of periodontal pockets reached 3 mm, the mobility of the teeth was I degree, with the changed - the depth of periodontal pockets was 5-6 mm, the mobility of the teeth was II-III degree. The amount of creviculars liquor, reflecting the intensity of the inflammatory reaction, increased compared with the 14th day, 1,3 times (p <0,05); PMA index, which characterizes the prevalence of gingivitis, and the Kulazhenko test probably did not change (p> 0,05); Russell's PI index, which indicates a pronounced intensity of inflammatory-destructive periodontal lesions, increased 2,05 times (р <0,05). Conclusions. Thus, in cases of normoreactivity of organism the inflammatory-destructive process in periodontium has moderate nature; when modelling the hyper- and hyporeactivity of the organism it acquires the character of “rapidly progressing periodontitis”. Therefore, it is necessary to continue studying the question of explaining the mechanism of different clinical course of the inflammatory-destructive process with changed and unchanged reactivity of the organism.

The rate of atrophy is significantly lower with the included dentition defects than with the final ones, as the teeth that limit the newly formed defect are natural constraints for bone resorption. However, the comprised dentition defects are not able to prevent the pathological process in the inflammatory-destructive process and generalized diseases in parodontal tissues, which in the future will affect the choice of prosthetic restoration and patient’s aesthetic appearance. Therefore, in the complex treatment of parodontal diseases, functional occlusion plays a remarkable role, which is achieved by rational prosthetics with prosthetic restoration made in articulators customized for individual function by CAD/CAM technology to eliminate traumatic interference and evenly distribute the masticatory load on the dentition and parodontal tissues. The aim of the study is to increase the therapeutic efficacy for patients with alveolar ridge atrophy in generalized parodontal diseases due to the inflammatory-destructive process from the use of bone augmentation followed by prosthetic rehabilitation of such patients and the development of a treatment approach. Materials and methods: Preliminary examination of patients was carried out according to the generally accepted methods of subjective and objective examination. Spot-film radiography, computed tomography, diagnostics were performed in an individually adjusted articulator, orthopantomogram, Vita Easyshade Advance 4.0 device. A digital database has been created in Microsoft Excel for the calculations. Statistical processing of the results was performed by the "Statistica 6.0" software. The canine guide on the laterotrusion side causes the distal-buccal surface of the lower canine of the working side to slide along the palatal slope of the upper canine of the working side. According to the table, among 25 patients of female patients 15 patients dominate in the gender assessment of the results, including 11 patients who underwent a comprehensive treatment of parodontal diseases with apical complications from the use of bone augmentation, which estimated 73.3% (p<0.05). The other 4 patients, which estimated 26.7% (p<0.05) of the total number of female patients were treated without the use of bone augmentation. In the treatment of male patients, the distribution was as follows: 7 patients, which estimated 70% (p<0.05) of the total number of male patients, underwent comprehensive treatment of parodontal disease with bone augmentation, 3 patients (30% (p<0.05)) underwent comprehensive treatment of parodontal diseases without the use of bone augmentation. Therefore, there were 25 patients with generalized parodontal disease with apical complications, 18 patients (72% (p <0.05)) of all patients without gender distribution received comprehensive treatment with bone augmentation, 7 patients (28% (p<0.05)) without regard to gender, comprehensive treatment was performed without the use of bone augmentation. Destructive processes in generalized parodontal diseases with apical complications cause bone defects that have to be replaced to rebuild the implant site and areas of restoration. The directed or nondirectional bone augmentation was used for this purpose. However, the directed bone augmentation with bioresorbable membranes is not sufficient at considerable bone defects. A strong skeleton is required for this purpose, which will provide additional mechanical support to counteract the load from the upper tissues and external factors, increase the regenerative potential, be able to save the bone from resorption; it will not be resorbed by itself and will form the necessary pattern of the alveolar process. At the same time, the masticatory load on the parodontal tissues normalizes due to the restoration of the anatomical relief of the occlusal relations, which will ensure the durability of prosthetic restoration made by CAD/CAM technology and comfortable use.

ABSTRACT The discovery of numerous debris discs around white dwarfs (WDs) gave rise to extensive study of such discs and their role in polluting WDs, but the formation and evolution of these discs is not yet well understood. Here, we study the role of aeolian (wind) erosion in the evolution of solids in WD debris discs. Aeolian erosion is a destructive process that plays a key role in shaping the properties and size distribution of planetesimals, boulders, and pebbles in gaseous protoplanetary discs. Our analysis of aeolian erosion in WD debris discs shows that it can also play an important role in these environments. We study the effects of aeolian erosion under different conditions of the disc and its erosive effect on planetesimals and boulders of different sizes. We find that solid bodies smaller than $\sim \! 5 \, \rm {km}$ will be eroded within the short disc lifetime. We compare the role of aeolian erosion in respect to other destructive processes such as collisional fragmentation and thermal ablation. We find that aeolian erosion is the dominant destructive process for objects with radius $\lesssim \! 10^3 \, \rm {cm}$ and at distances $\lesssim \! 0.6 \, \mathrm{R}_\odot$ from the WD. Thereby, aeolian erosion constitutes the main destructive pathway linking fragmentational collisions operating on large objects with sublimation of the smallest objects and Poynting–Robertson drag, which leads to the accretion of the smallest particles on to the photosphere of WDs, and the production of polluted WDs.

The process of thermal-oxidative degradation of polymer materials has been studied on the example of polyethylene in the presence of quinones and / or nitroxyl radicals. The synergistic effect of the positive action of a mixture of stabilisers from a number of quinones and nitroxyl radicals on the destructive process of polyethylene has been established. It has been shown that the rate of degradation has significantly slowed down when an equimolecular mixture of 4-acetylamino-2,2,6,6-tetramethylhexahydropyridine-1-oxyl and 2,6-di-tert-amyl-1,4-cyclohexadienone inhibitors has been introduced into the polymer. The kinetics of the initiated thermo-destructive process of polyethylene oxidation in the presence and absence of stabilisers has been studied. A mechanism of joint action of stabilisers based on their interaction with radicals and the breakage of radical chains, as well as a mechanism for the regeneration of stabilisers, has been proposed.

Confronted with the reality that our environment is (almost literally) dying, we must navigate feelings of grief and mourning. In this article, I set out to understand the emotion of climate grief, using the LBT model of emotions. I define climate grief as an emotion whose object is the loss of the local and global ecosystems as we rely on, value and relate to them. The rating of climate grief is strongly negative, such that we bleakly perceive our existence and our survival as an ecosystem. In addition, I explore how self-defeating practical syllogisms can transform the healthy emotional grieving process into a destructive process. In particular, I investigate the LBT fallacies of "awfulizing", "damnation" and "can'tstipation". Finally, I propose a set of "climate-friendly virtues" (courage, respect and self-control) and look at what all of us can do to mobilize our emotions of climate grief toward healthy, positive and sustainable action.

AbstractAdult C. elegans hermaphrodites exhibit severe senescent pathology that begins to develop within days of reaching sexual maturity (Ezcurra et al., 2018; Garigan et al., 2002; Herndon et al., 2002; Wang et al., 2018). For example, after depletion of self-sperm, intestinal biomass is converted into yolk leading to intestinal atrophy and yolk steatosis (pseudocoelomic lipoprotein pools, PLPs) (Ezcurra et al., 2018; Garigan et al., 2002; Herndon et al., 2002; Sornda et al., 2019). These senescent pathologies are promoted by insulin/IGF-1 signalling (IIS), which also shortens lifespan (Ezcurra et al., 2018; Kenyon, 2010). This pattern of rapid and severe pathology in organs linked to reproduction is reminiscent of semelparous organisms where massive reproductive effort leads to rapid death (reproductive death) as in Pacific salmon (Finch, 1990; Gems et al., 2020). Moreover, destructive conversion of somatic biomass to support reproduction is a hallmark of reproductive death (Gems et al., 2020). Yet arguing against the occurrence of reproductive death in C. elegans is the apparent futility of post-reproductive yolk production. Here we show that this effort is not futile, since post-reproductive mothers vent yolk through their vulva, which is consumed by progeny and supports their growth; thus vented yolk functions as a milk, and C. elegans mothers exhibit a form of lactation. Moreover, IIS promotes lactation, thereby effecting a costly process of resource transfer from postreproductive mothers to offspring. These results support the view that C. elegans hermaphrodites exhibit reproductive death involving a self-destructive process of lactation that is promoted by IIS. They also provide new insight into how the strongly life-shortening effects of IIS in C. elegans evolved.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate how the implementation of digital interfaces into service encounters is transforming demands toward frontline service employees. In addition to having the potential to enhance employee–customer interactions, changes related to new technologies can be perceived as stressful by employees and might foster deviation from prescribed processes. Design/methodology/approach Using the transactional theory of stress and coping as a theoretical framework, this paper aims to develop and test a research model to investigate the influence of technology-induced role ambiguity on constructive and destructive process deviance. Data were collected via an online survey of 123 frontline service employees in restaurants that have online reservation systems in use. Findings The results confirm that employee resistance to change fosters role ambiguity, while self-efficacy reduces the latter. Technology-induced role ambiguity leads to both constructive and destructive process deviance. Originality/value By revealing the above relationships, this study contributes to research in services marketing by examining two types of employees’ deviance from customer-facing processes.
