Together with concentration, motility is one of the most important characteristics of sturgeon sperm, determining its quality and suitability for insemination. After activation in water, the duration of progressive sperm motility is also important, and this time should not be less than that required for fertilization. Motility of spermatozoa depends on their physiological state, maturity, age and intracellular reserves of macroergic substances. During hypothermic storage, the percentage of spermatozoa that can be activated decreases progressively due to depletion of ATP supply or cell death. To improve the hypothermic storage of sterlet sperm, we have developed salt-free preservative solution ISGT-80 based on glucose and trehalose. During storage of sterlet sperm specimens from 20 males in ISGT-80 for 18 days, we observed, along with a progressive decrease in the percentage of motile spermatozoa, an alteration in the duration of their motility. On the 3rd to 6th day of storage, the time of half-loss of motility (τ50) increased significantly by approximately 1 min on average compared with fresh samples, then gradually decreased, however, not descending to the initial value. The reasons for this prolongation of motility are not clear, but we do not exclude the predominant death of spermatozoa with a short motility duration in the first days of storage and selection in favor of long-lived spermatozoa. Such gametic selection can lead to a shift in allele frequencies at heterozygous loci in the offspring. Thus, hypothermic storage of sperm could become an attractive subject for genetic research with the aim of developing new selection tools in sturgeon breeding.

Liquid smoke is a preservative solution that can be used safely. This grade 1 product can be also used as food preservative.  The aim of this article is to discuss and examine the previous experiment’s results  by literature review.  The outcome of this article  is expected to be  regenerated  by other research using the existing variable which is discussed on this article or using new variable.  Based on the result. There are some variables that effect the final quality of liquid smoke. Some of them are pyrolisys temperature, pyrolisys time, adsorbant type and activator type. Pyrolisys temperature used was arround 250 °C – 300 °C with resulted pH 1.41 to 2.25.  While for pyrolisys temperature was arround 4 – 5 hours with phenol content arround 3.04% to 4.08%. The type of adsorbant used was zeoilte and quartz sand, which the acid total having both increment and decrement phenomenon. Activator type used were salt activator such as NaCl , NaHCO, CaCl2, Na2SO4 and base activator (NaOH) which producing the most percent acid total.

Introduction: The procedure to synthesize silver nanoparticles (SNPs) from Prunus cerasoides leaf extract and their effect on vase life and flower quality of cut carnation were investigated. Methods: SNPs were bio-synthesized from Prunus cerasoides leaf extract and characterized by using UV-Vis technique, TEM, and SEM images. The postharvest responses of carnation cut flowers to the biosynthesis SNPs were evaluated through vase life, relative fresh weight, vase solution uptake, flower diameter of cut carnation. Results: SNPs were synthesized under optimum conditions, including using the extract of leaf heating at 60 oC in 30 min, 4 mM of silver nitrate, pH of 11, and 180 min of reaction time. SNPs exhibited antimicrobial activity and then alleviated the bacterial development in the preservative solution. All treatments with SNPs had improved the vase life and quality of cut carnation compared to the control. A vase solution containing 2% sucrose enhanced the carnation cut flowers. Conclusions: The preservative solution containing 25 ppm SNPs and 2% sucrose showed the best effect. SNPs could be used as a promising antibacterial agent applied in the preservative solution for cut carnation flowers.

The use of borax solution as a preservative in wood and bamboo materials is well known in the community. A borax solution is an environmentally friendly liquid that can dissolve in water, so it is suitable to be used as a preservative within cold or hot soaking techniques. The ability of borax to resist insects and fungus attacks on bamboo has been proven, but the effect of the solution on the strength of bamboo must also be investigated. This study conducts to investigate the effects of borax and its additives as preservative solutions to the mechanical properties of bamboos. The bamboos preservations were conducted by cold conditions of immersion, while the mechanical properties were performed to understand the effects of preservatives. The result of this study indicated that 30% to 50% borax in the preservative solution is sufficient to provide significant increase in strength for compressive strength, tensile strength, and bending strength of bamboo specimen. From this study, the use of borax solution in preserving the bamboos materials improved the quality of bamboos based on its mechanical properties.

Art of embalming as practised by Egyptian about 3000 years ago transformed into embalming science of modern ages with the use of formaldehyde as a preservative solution. Subsequently, the search for ideal embalming preservative solution continues to date because of the health hazards related to formaldehyde preservation of cadavers. Alternative preservative methods and solutions suitable for making different skill training models with the specific requirement of pliability have also experimented. The literature had documented various solutions like Thiel’s solution and technique, phenoxyethanol preservation, saturated sodium chloride solution, cryopreservation, N-Vinyl-2-pyrrolidone, Ethanol–glycerin and Fix 4life solution as alternatives to formaldehyde preservation. This review is an attempt to have an overview comparison of all the recent alternate embalming methods applicable for developing skill training cadaveric models with an aim of reducing formaldehyde usage in preservation.
