Various possibilities for collecting volunteer-provided geographical information in geodesy make it possible to engage volunteers for different purposes. In this paper, a study of the willingness of volunteers to report changes on topographic maps based on an online survey is presented. The survey was answered by 653 Slovenian respondents who use various online or classic topographic maps in their free time or at work and are willing to report their knowledge of changes in space or errors in maps to the map-updating institution. The survey's main finding is that 56% of respondents would use any online application to report changes on maps, 38% of respondents would prefer to report changes via email, and only 4% of respondents would prefer to report changes by phone. We also analysed the potential use of different functionalities of a web application for collecting changes and found that the most important functionalities for volunteers are those that give the most in-depth feedback (i.e., that a contribution has been submitted, that it is being verified, that it has been considered, that it has been deleted). The willingness of potential volunteers to use the various proposed functionalities also frequently depends on their current involvement with social networking sites or in volunteer associations and on their age group.

The article raises the question of finding effective forms and means of overcoming the value disorientation of the younger generation. As a solution to this problem, the author proposes to use the volunteer resource of student youth, to attract future teachers to work with children’s associations of different ages at leisure and recreation sites. The content, purpose, objectives, methods and forms of interaction between volunteers and children at such sites determine the spiritual and moral orientation of their joint activities. To understand the specifics of such social practice, the author of the article presented the rationale for the peculiarities of educational activities of a spiritual and moral orientation, concretized the pedagogical goals and the result of this activity, taking into account possible restrictions, methods of selecting specific types and forms of interaction between children and volunteers, which allow initiating the spiritual efforts of pupils to self-analysis of activities and behavior, to motivate them to choose creative ways of self-realization. These theoretical propositions have been tested in practice and have proven their effectiveness within the framework of the “Guys from Our Yard” project, which has been implemented for five years by students of the Solikamsk State Pedagogical Institute (branch) of the Perm State National Research University. The materials proposed in the article can be used by volunteer associations, student pedagogical teams for organizing educational activities of a spiritual and moral orientation at leisure and recreation sites (or in working conditions with children’s associations of different ages at the place of residence).

Introduction. Volunteering is an effective tool for the development of society and a powerful personal development resource. However, ignoring the value content of volunteering in the mass organisation of volunteer youth associations reduces its ability to achieve social, economic, cultural and other altruistic goals. The formal approach to volunteering fails to meet either the public interest or the needs and expectations of young people. Participation in volunteering under the influence of external factors in case of unformed or controversial intrinsic motivation for this activity causes dissatisfaction with the work and termination of activities.Aim. On the basis of the value of volunteerism, the aim of the present publication is to identify and analyse the motivation for student volunteering.Methodology and research methods. The leading method of empirical research was the questionnaire survey among the members of volunteer organisations: schoolchildren, students of secondary specialised educational institutions and university students. The questionnaire was based on the theory of the motives of volunteering and their classification. The sample (N = 207) was formed using stratified random sampling. The quantitative research strategy included such tools as drawing up a portrait of a volunteer based on projective questions, using the method of unfinished sentences, the method of direct ranking of motives. The materials were processed in the programme Vortex 10.Results and scientific novelty. The study of the activity of volunteer associations existing on the basis of educational institutions indicates that such activity has become a compulsory type of extra-school work of students, which is veiled under volunteerism. Such “volunteering” is managed mainly through administration and is complied with the tasks of the educational institution. A typology of volunteering motives was formed, reflecting the subjective perceptions of young people. Comparison of the typology obtained with the declared motivation showed their consistency. When analysing the individual structure of motives, a predominance of focus on one’s own requests, rather than on social problems, was recorded. According to respondents’ answers, an “ideal type” of a volunteer is focused exclusively on altruistic values. An “ideal” leader of a volunteer organisation is characterised only as a manager. The key contradiction of youth volunteering is formed between its value essence as a free voluntary activity for the benefit of society and the predominance of egoistic motives for participation in it. The shift of emphasis in the motivation of young students to attitudes towards volunteering as a resource for personal development contributes to the growth of contradictions in real practice. The result of formalism, regulation and distortions in the reasons for volunteering is a disappointment in it. More than a third of volunteers leave volunteer associations due to loss or initial lack of internal motivation.Practical significance consists in scientific justification for the need to rethink and change the methods of volunteer management, taking into account its value components. The existing contradictions in the motivation of volunteers initiate the search for new approaches to the organisation of their selfless, socially significant work.

Abstract Objective To explore Hospital Volunteers’ (HVs) motivations and experiences, as well as the strategies they adopt to overcome challenging situations during volunteering and the needs they perceive. Methods Eleven Italian HVs were purposively approached between January and July 2016, using face-to-face semi-structured interviews. The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed using the descriptive phenomenological approach. Results Hospital volunteering emerged as a complex experience characterised by five themes: (a) becoming a volunteer; (b) developing skills; (c) experiencing conflicting emotions; (d) overcoming role difficulties by enacting different resources and strategies; and (e) addressing emerging needs. Conclusions According to the findings, hospital policies aimed at promoting volunteer integration in daily care are needed and should be based on (a) a shared vision between the hospital and the volunteer associations regarding the HVs’ role and skills; (b) the development of integrated models of care combining different workforces (i.e. professionals and volunteer staff); (c) appropriate training of HVs at baseline; (d) individualised continuous education pathways aimed at supporting HVs both emotionally and in the development of the required skills; and (e) tailored education that is directed to health-care staff aimed at helping them to value the service provided by HVs.

We analyze the peculiarities of the process of institutionalization of the volunteer movement in Russia. The genesis of the concept of “institutionalization of the volunteer movement” as a mechanism of social and state interaction, support of volunteer initiatives for social efficiency of volunteer activity is considered. We characterize new types of volunteering (educational, corporate volunteering, family, volunteering in the media). The process of institutionalization of the volunteer movement is defined through the prism of the model of development of the social movement, which includes seven phases (latent, articulatory, organizational, ideological, quantita-tive, organizational, institutional). Volunteer movement is defined as mobile, with a clear organi-zational structure (formal and non-formal), uniting various social groups, transmitting the ideas of volunteerism as a response to the solution of acute social problems. We focuse on the institutional processes in the field of volunteer activities, pursuing the goals of the best volunteer social and cultural actions. The main institutional elements of volunteer movements (volunteer programs, volunteer actions, specialized congresses, forums, conferences, specialized networks of volunteer organizations; volunteer associations, unions, councils; funds for support and development of volunteering; volunteer information networks; state and municipal programs to support volunteer initiatives; legal support of volunteer activities) are highlighted. The perspective directions of the volunteer movement institutionalization in Russia are revealed.
