The article contains considerations on the selected aspects of participatory education model in the process of juvenile rehabilitation. The background of the considerations is the regularities of cognitive and emotional development, as well as the process of shaping human identity in the period of adolescence. The use of the natural aspirations and needs of adolescents, reflected in the model of participatory education (in its values and methods), has become the basis for considerations regarding the implementation of this model in the process of juvenile rehabilitation (run in the conditions of a correctional facility).

Delinquent adolescents with depressive disorder have a higher number than the general adolescent population. Depression is associated with negative behavior and moral misconduct that can endanger themselves and society. Thus, this study aims to identify the effectiveness of the Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) module in overcoming depression among delinquent adolescents. This study involved a total of 100 adolescents age between 15 to 20 who were detained under the juvenile justice system at Sekolah Tunas Bakti (STB), Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. All respondents were selected using simple random sampling and divided into two groups, namely the treatment group (n = 50) who received therapy using the REBT module, and the control group (n = 50) who were not given the same therapy. ANCOVA repeated measure was used to identify the significant changes in depression score between groups. The results of the analysis showed that there were significant differences between groups. Adolescents who were received therapy using the REBT module showed lower depression scores than adolescents from the control group. This study provides an important finding as an alternative intervention therapy to be used by the therapists and the trainers at the juvenile rehabilitation center in promoting adolescents’ positive emotions.

The increase in disorderly behaviors at the adolescent stage is a major dilemma for Malaysian society as the number ofcriminal cases committed by Muslim adolescents is increasing from time to time. These unwanted behaviors may be triggered by the quality of attachmentrelationships and errors in terms of the adolescent’s cognitive interpretation. Therefore, the aim of the current study is to explore the relationship between maternal attachment(i.e., secure and insecure) and cognitive distortion of Muslim adolescents inJuvenile Rehabilitation Residential schools mediated by self-regulation. Datafrom 440 Muslim adolescents (aged between 14 and 18) from the Juvenile RehabilitationResidential schools in Malaysia were examined using the structural equation model(AMOS). The finding indicated a significant positive relationship between securematernal attachment and self-regulation as well as the relationship betweeninsecure maternal attachment and cognitive distortion, while, a significantnegative relationship was found between self-regulation and cognitivedistortion. Moreover, the indirect effect indicated that only relationshipbetween secure maternal attachment and cognitive distortion was completelymediated by self-regulation. This study suggests that secure maternalattachment was associated with higher self-regulation, which, in turn, lowerscognitive distortion among Muslim adolescents. The results may facilitateimprovements of mother-adolescent relationship and reduction of cognitivedistortion among Muslim adolescents with the guidance of their self-regulation.

This study sought to examine the influence of children's characteristics on the performance of Kenyan juvenile rehabilitation centers. The study was influenced by the Social Disorganization Theory. It also adopted a correlational research design involving a mixed-method approach in both data collection and data analysis. The population consisted of 64 staff working in 6 juvenile rehabilitation institutions in Nakuru County and 409 children admitted to these institutions. Purposive sampling techniques were employed to select the respondents leading to a sample size of 10 staff members and 42 juvenile children. The research instruments were a questionnaire and an interview guide. Quantitative data were analyzed using percentages, frequencies, Pearson correlation independent sample t-test, and ANOVA. Qualitative data were analyzed using the thematic content analysis technique. The results established that the age and gender of the children did not have a significant influence on performance but the children's socio-economic background and family support had a significant influence. The study recommended that the family should be engaged in the rehabilitation process of the children

In the article, I present the findings of a qualitative research study conducted in a juvenile rehabilitation facility for girls among teaching staff with different length of service. Data from group interviews with the teaching staff were analyzed. The study aimed to analyze the teaching staff's statements regarding their understanding of effects in the social rehabilitation of juveniles. The study covered seven focus groups. The conclusions from the study show that the teaching staff in the juvenile rehabilitation facility can identify the effects of the social rehabilitation process and equate them with desirable (prosocial) changes in the juveniles’ behavior - these changes are not always consolidated but identifiable enough for the teachers to be able to continue working on them, which is an effect as well according to the participants. The juveniles’ academic achievements and behavior changes relating to observing the rules of the facility and performing their duties are the effects of social rehabilitation listed most frequently by the participants. According to the participants, the effects related to changes in the juveniles’ developing personalities are more difficult to determine and need definitely more time to be achieved. The participants also point to the key role of the feedback on changes in behavior the juveniles are provided with, which promotes further, more complex changes, such as, for example, the juveniles’ higher self-esteem. According to the participants, Individualized Education and Therapy Programs are an important tool in their work and make it easier for them to identify the outcomes and set goals in ongoing interventions. The participants of the study are aware that numerous factors contribute to the effect of social rehabilitation work and it cannot be analyzed from the angle of individual indicators.
