A multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) method that shares the same frequency band can efficiently increase radar performance. An essential element of a MIMO radar is the orthogonality of the waveform. Typically, orthogonality is obtained by spreading different signals into divided domains such as in time-domain multiplexing, frequency-domain multiplexing, and code domain multiplexing. This paper proposes a method of spreading the interference signals outside the range bins of interest for pulse doppler radars. This is achieved by changing the pulse repetition frequency under certain constraints, and an additional gain can be obtained by doppler processing. This method is very effective for improving the angular accuracy of the MIMO radar for a small number of air targets, although it may have limitations in use for many targets or in high clutter environments.

From a conceptual perspective, beyond-5G technologies promise to deliver very low latency, even higher data rates, and ultrareliable connections for future generations of communication systems. Modulation schemes based on orthogonal frequency-domain multiplexing (OFDM) can accommodate these requirements for wireless systems. Several hybrid OFDM-based systems, such as the time-interleaved block-windowed burst–OFDM (TIBWB–OFDM), are capable of achieving even better spectral confinement and power efficiency. This paper addresses the implementation of the TIBWB–OFDM system in more realistic and practical wireless link scenarios by addressing the challenges of proper and reliable channel estimation and frame synchronization. We propose to incorporate a preamble formed by optimal correlation training sequences such as the Zadoff–Chu (ZC) sequences. The added ZC preamble sequence is used to jointly estimate the frame beginning through signal-correlation strategies and a threshold decision device, and acquire channel-state information (CSI) by employing estimators on the basis of the preamble sequence and transmitted data. The employed receiver estimators show that it is possible to detect the TIBWB–OFDM frame beginning and highlight the robustness of the TIBWB–OFDM technique to imperfect channel estimations by showing that it can provide comparatively close BER performance to the one where the CSI is perfectly known.

In the traditional layered division multiplexing (LDM) system, by simply adjusting the injection level, the reception performance of the core layer (CL) mobile services will be decreased significantly, resulting in the deterioration of system coverage performance. Thus, it is necessary to improve the performance of the enhanced layer (EL) service reception without affecting the reception threshold of CL service. To achieve this, in this paper, an enhanced LDM (En-LDM) scheme that supports multi-service transmission is proposed for the next-generation broadcasting network. In this scheme, at the transmitter end, part of the low-density parity-check (LDPC) coded data stream of fixed service conveyed in the EL will be extracted out through puncturing, and then, it will be transmitted over the CL of the LDM signal along with the original CL data in a frequency domain multiplexing (FDM) manner. At the receiving end, the punctured data of the EL fixed service will be recovered with a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Compared to the traditional LDM scheme, the proposed En-LDM scheme can significantly improve the reception performance of fixed services without decreasing the SNR threshold of mobile services. Moreover, the En-LDM can achieve a higher channel capacity than that of the traditional LDM for both the fixed services and the overall services. The superiority of the proposed En-LDM scheme over the traditional LDM scheme is validated by the simulation under the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and fading channels.

Solid-state spin defects are a promising platform for quantum science and technology. The realization of larger-scale quantum systems with solid-state defects will require high-fidelity control over multiple defects with nanoscale separations, with strong spin-spin interactions for multi-qubit logic operations and the creation of entangled states. We demonstrate an optical frequency-domain multiplexing technique, allowing high-fidelity initialization and single-shot spin measurement of six rare-earth (Er3+) ions, within the subwavelength volume of a single, silicon photonic crystal cavity. We also demonstrate subwavelength control over coherent spin rotations by using an optical AC Stark shift. Our approach may be scaled to large numbers of ions with arbitrarily small separation and is a step toward realizing strongly interacting atomic defect ensembles with applications to quantum information processing and fundamental studies of many-body dynamics.
