Precisely evaluating the frame synchronization of the camera network is often required for accurate data fusion from multiple visual information. This paper presents a novel method to estimate the synchronization accuracy by using inherent visual information of linearly oscillating light spot captured in the camera images instead of using luminescence information or depending on external measurement instrument. The suggested method is compared to the conventional evaluation method to prove the feasibility. Our experiment result implies that the estimation accuracy of the frame synchronization can be achieved in sub-millisecond order.

This paper proposes a novel method for synchronizing a high frame-rate (HFR) camera with an HFR projector, using a visual feedback-based synchronization algorithm for streaming video sequences in real time on a visible-light communication (VLC)-based system. The frame rates of the camera and projector are equal, and their phases are synchronized. A visual feedback-based synchronization algorithm is used to mitigate the complexities and stabilization issues of wire-based triggering for long-distance systems. The HFR projector projects a binary pattern modulated at 3000 fps. The HFR camera system operates at 3000 fps, which can capture and generate a delay signal to be given to the next camera clock cycle so that it matches the phase of the HFR projector. To test the synchronization performance, we used an HFR projector–camera-based VLC system in which the proposed synchronization algorithm provides maximum bandwidth utilization for the high-throughput transmission ability of the system and reduces data redundancy efficiently. The transmitter of the VLC system encodes the input video sequence into gray code, which is projected via high-definition multimedia interface streaming in the form of binary images 590 × 1060. At the receiver, a monochrome HFR camera can simultaneously capture and decode 12-bit 512 × 512 images in real time and reconstruct a color video sequence at 60 fps. The efficiency of the visual feedback-based synchronization algorithm is evaluated by streaming offline and live video sequences, using a VLC system with single and dual projectors, providing a multiple-projector-based system. The results show that the 3000 fps camera was successfully synchronized with a 3000 fps single-projector and a 1500 fps dual-projector system. It was confirmed that the synchronization algorithm can also be applied to VLC systems, autonomous vehicles, and surveillance applications.

In this paper, we describe an experimental testbed designed to evaluate indoor visible light communications (VLC) in realistic scenarios. The system is based on a mockup where the location and orientation of the optical receiver can be modified with precision for a static configuration of walls and ceiling lamp arrangements. The system utilizes a timing synchronization method, which is based on evaluating the training sequence periods used for channel response estimation, which enables robust frame synchronization. In addition, an adaptive rate orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme is used to assess the VLC performance throughout the receiver plane emulating a real communication. The preliminary results obtained with this prototype, considering a multiple-input single-output (MISO) scenario, demonstrate that reflection on walls yields a significant increase in data rates, which can be additionally improved if appropriate orientation of the receiver is implemented. However, vertical orientation upward of the optical receiver still constitutes a simple solution but efficient enough. Moreover, a good agreement between simulation and experimental results is observed, which confirms the suitability of the mockup as an experimental testbed for practical evaluation of indoor VLC systems, where system performance for different lamp arrangements and receiver designs, including multi-user communications, can be studied.

From a conceptual perspective, beyond-5G technologies promise to deliver very low latency, even higher data rates, and ultrareliable connections for future generations of communication systems. Modulation schemes based on orthogonal frequency-domain multiplexing (OFDM) can accommodate these requirements for wireless systems. Several hybrid OFDM-based systems, such as the time-interleaved block-windowed burst–OFDM (TIBWB–OFDM), are capable of achieving even better spectral confinement and power efficiency. This paper addresses the implementation of the TIBWB–OFDM system in more realistic and practical wireless link scenarios by addressing the challenges of proper and reliable channel estimation and frame synchronization. We propose to incorporate a preamble formed by optimal correlation training sequences such as the Zadoff–Chu (ZC) sequences. The added ZC preamble sequence is used to jointly estimate the frame beginning through signal-correlation strategies and a threshold decision device, and acquire channel-state information (CSI) by employing estimators on the basis of the preamble sequence and transmitted data. The employed receiver estimators show that it is possible to detect the TIBWB–OFDM frame beginning and highlight the robustness of the TIBWB–OFDM technique to imperfect channel estimations by showing that it can provide comparatively close BER performance to the one where the CSI is perfectly known.

Multiple-camera systems can expand coverage and mitigate occlusion problems. However, temporal synchronization remains a problem for budget cameras and capture devices. We propose an out-of-the-box framework to temporally synchronize multiple cameras using semantic human pose estimation from the videos. Human pose predictions are obtained with an out-of-the-shelf pose estimator for each camera. Our method firstly calibrates each pair of cameras by minimizing an energy function related to epipolar distances. We also propose a simple yet effective multiple-person association algorithm across cameras and a score-regularized energy function for improved performance. Secondly, we integrate the synchronized camera pairs into a graph and derive the optimal temporal displacement configuration for the multiple-camera system. We evaluate our method on four public benchmark datasets and demonstrate robust sub-frame synchronization accuracy on all of them.

Frame synchronization word (FSW) is an important basis in signal synchronization detection. In our work, the joint design of frame synchronization words and error correcting code are proposed which through regularly distributing the frame synchronization words among the information bits to improve the decoding performance of the LDPC. Frame synchronization word should be added to the information sequence corresponding to the position with the check matrix larger column weight which can guarantee that more Frame synchronization words are received by the check node in the decoding iteration. The frame synchronization word is known to the receiver which play an important role in decoding iteration. The results of simulation show that the algorithm makes an obvious improvement in decoding performance when the signal-noise ratio (SNR) is lower than 1 dB.
