Since ancient times, human beings have been interested in knowing their environment in order to make the right decisions in territorial management. The spatial component is a feature of great importance in the assets that surround us. Heritage geoinformation is a convenient and effective way for management, protection and safeguarding of cultural and natural heritage. For optimal compliance, it is nowadays indispensable to rely on the use of new web technologies and geomatics knowledge that allow the documentation, visualisation, monitoring and management of heritage. Therefore, the main objective of this article is to develop a web-based cultural heritage management system in Cantón Nabón, Ecuador, as a case study. The system, consisting of a web-based geoportal accessible to the whole society, will allow consulting the geolocalised heritage information of the study area on a virtual map, as well as 3D geovisualisation in an interactive web viewer. The integrated system, once implemented, will take into consideration the preventive conservation cycle in the heritage field, highlighting, in Spanish, the creation of the heritage data models according to ISO21127:2014.

Indonesia is the largest country in the world. One of the legendary areas is Ponorogo Regency. Focused on Plunturan Village which has cultural diversity which is trying to become a tourist village. Researchers are interested in taking this research because Plunturan Village relies more on customs and has a unique cultural heritage. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observation and literature study. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The creativity and innovation in the management of cultural heritage include the art of Reyog Ponorogo in various versions and generations, Gajah-Gajahan and Keling, Orek-Orek and Tledekan, Bumbung Suloyo, Karawitan, Oncor Obor, and the Selawenan Festival. Indonesia adalah negara terbesar di dunia. Salah satu wilayah yang melegenda adalah Kabupaten Ponorogo. Difokuskan pada Desa Plunturan yang memiliki keberagaman budaya yang sedang mengupayakan menjadi desa wisata. Peneliti tertarik untuk mengambil penelitian ini karena Desa Plunturan lebih mengandalkan adat istiadat dan memiliki keunikan pada warisan budayanya. Teknik pengambilan data yang digunakan yaitu wawancara, observasi dan studi literatur. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Adapun bentuk-bentuk kreativitas dan inovasi dalam pengelolaan warisan budaya antara lain kesenian Reyog Ponorogo dalam berbagai versi dan generasi, Gajah-Gajahan dan Keling, Orek-Orek dan Tledekan, Bumbung Suloyo, Karawitan, Oncor Obor, dan Festival Selawenan.

AbstractThis paper reports on the steps taken to mitigate the impact of the Metolong Dam (Lesotho) on the rock art present within the catchment of its associated reservoir. Mitigation took four major forms: comprehensive survey and documentation, including both photography and tracing; pigment characterization and radiocarbon dating; exploration of the ongoing significance of rock art as a form of living heritage for people living in the vicinity; and removal of selected panels for permanent safekeeping. These steps are placed within the wider context of other cultural heritage management projects in Africa and their success evaluated. Recommendations are made for how similar work should be undertaken in future.

A public-private partnership (P3) and public-private-people partnership (P4) are amongst the institutional options available when it comes to funding cultural heritage management through the involvement of private players pertaining to the business or third sectors, respectively. In light of the growing relevance of P4 operations as a means to improve heritage management, this paper aims at analyzing the initiatives developed by the Fondazione Cariplo banking foundation, which can be considered exemplary instances of P4. A total of two projects were selected, which go by the name of Distretti Culturali and AttivAree, respectively, and may serve as highly indicative examples of community involvement and multi-sector-oriented action. To conduct a truly realistic analysis and reliably measure the adequacy of the outcomes obtained, interviews with the parties involved were performed and direct participation in the projects was provided for. Considering, also, that funding has, so far, typically been aimed at interventions on individual buildings, the foundation has managed to develop some true cross-sector programs, and thus further refine the multi-sector approach most likely to prove useful in future community-centered initiatives. Herein, some of the features are isolated; those which we deem most suitable for adoption in the planning of future cultural heritage-related projects.

PurposeThe aim of this research is to discuss the effect of corruption on conventional management of cultural heritage (CH) resources in Nigeria. It identifies the means by which the effect can be curtailed to bring about proper management system in the CH sector and pave the way for economic/sustainable development through cultural tourism in the country.Design/methodology/approachThe research draws from both exploratory and comparative approaches. It took a study of selected locations and museums in the six geopolitical zones of the country, with a review of literatures on cultural heritage management (CHM). It also gives summarized information on the present overall effect of corruption in the CH sector of Nigeria.FindingsThe research reveals that there are some levels of mismanagement and destruction of CH resources in the country. This is manifested in acts of museum theft, illicit trafficking, unlawful possession and general mishandling of CH, as well as the deterioration of facilities in the sector. The research gathered that the problem came as a result of wrongful appointment of none heritage experts as heads of heritage-related institutions and agencies. It also results from lack of required attention by the government and other relevant stakeholders (such as community leaders/members, academics and law enforcement agencies, inter alia) toward CH preservation, protection, management and promotion for sustainable development. The research recommends that the government and other CH stakeholders (mentioned above) should make efforts to address the issues discussed, so as to improve the management of CH in the country for sustainable development.Originality/valuePrior to this research, there has been no publication addressing the effect of corruption on CHM in this context and location. The article makes recommendations that call for action and also set grounds for future discourse.

MUSE360 intends to offer a powerful open tool for the overall analysis of cultural reality, involving actors and receptors of the cultural message, capable of providing a valid indicator of the state of the museum art, of bringing students—future professionals in the sector—closer together, solving many problems in cultural heritage management, assisting in the timely and satisfactory design and implementation of solutions linked to the cultural needs of a complex and diversified user, as well as bringing out new ideas and possibilities for the sustainability of the cultural heritage.

Italy has one of the biggest cultural heritage in the world, but nowadays it is facing a strong crisis, concerning its management and key resources (economic, human, financial, etc). This article aims to contribute to social innovation studies by focusing on the emergence of new actors in cultural heritage management field, through an approach centered on hybrid organizational form. This is a preliminary study which analyze cultural initiatives carried out by social enterprises that have positive impacts, both social and economic, in terms of development of the local community and tourist attraction. According with the preliminary results, beyond public and private administration, Neapolitan social enterprises apply a hybrid organizational form in cultural heritage management, efficiently and effectively. Enterprises studied, in which social entrepreneurship and innovative business model emerge, play an active role responding to both individual and social needs through a cooperative and collaborative attitude.
