The paper describes the assumptions of modern methods of teaching foreign languages, and this description includes the proposals of their creators regarding the knowledge that the student must acquire and the competences that he/she is to form. The results of the test checking sociocultural knowledge and sociolinguistic competences of Russian Studies students is also discussed. The low global result of the test (57% of correct answers) showed a poor record of students in terms of the examined issues. Knowledge about Russia is very superficial among the study participants. They are also not good in dealing with contacts on the level of official relations (formal records of statements).

Isoflavones, due to their claimed or demonstrated beneficial biological activities, have attracted great interest and gained popularity among the public. On the risk of endometrial hyperplasia, conflicting findings for such compounds have been reported and genistein has been intensively studied. Studies also indicated that 2’-hydroxylation of isoflavones can lead to beneficial components with superior bioactivity compared to isoflavones lacking this substituent. Till now there is no study evaluating the effect of 2’-hydroxygenistein on endometrial hyperplasia in vivo. In line with this, a 3-day uterotrophic assay was carried out to evaluate the effect of 2’-hydroxygenistein on the uterus as its endometrial hyperplasia is of significant clinical concern. Daily subcutaneous administration of 2’-hydroxygenistein significantly (p ≤ 0.05) increased uterine wet weight at 2 and 8 mg/kg/day, while it reduced (p ≤ 0.05) uterine epithelial height at all tested doses. In contrast, no significant variation was observed on vaginal epithelial height. As global result, it appears that 2’-hydroxygenistein might exhibit anti-proliferative effects in the uterus, while having no effect on the vagina. However, this aspect needs to be further investigated

Wilhelm Przeczek is a Polish writer who has lived in Karviná, the Czech Republic, since he was born in 1936. He is a member of a Polish minority and he has aimed his literary output at its members and at readers in Poland. Translations into the Czech language are aimed at readers in the Czech Republic. Having made a protest against the intervention of the Warsaw Pact armies into Czechoslovakia in August 1968, W. Przeczek was not allowed to publish and he was dismissed – he had worked as an editor of a Polish paper “Głos Ludu”. In 1970–1977 he worked as an actor, stage director, and dramatic advisor of a puppet show theatre Bajka in Český Těšín, the Czech Republic. In his article, the author deals with poems by W. Przeczek’s on the subject of journeys about Europe. The starting point is local, but a global result.

AbstractThe high antioxidant capacity of tea is well-known, but the effect of flavorings like honey or lemon has been less studied. Their antioxidants can interact with each other, the global result being also affected by the brewing temperature. The combined effect of heat (55 and 80 °C) and flavorings (acacia and honeydew honeys, lemon juice) on the total polyphenol, total flavonoid content and antioxidant capacity of black and green teas was studied. In many cases higher antioxidant capacity was obtained at 80 °C. Teas flavored with honeydew honey had higher antioxidant capacity than those containing acacia honey. Addition of lemon decreased the antioxidant capacity of tea with honey. No synergies were confirmed in any of the compositions investigated. Vitamin C content of lemon-containing black tea was reduced by half at 80 °C compared to tea brewed at 55 °C; while honey was shown to partly prevent this loss of ascorbic acid.

English phrasal verbs are phraseological units derived from the amalgam between a verb and an adverbial or prepositional particle, which, synchronically, are not a discursive combination but the global result of a single lexical selection. This construction is also found in other languages, although with a different name (e.g. the Italian verbi sintagmatici or the German trennbare Verben) and it may also have more than one meaning. This contrastive study focuses on the polysemy of the Spanish phrasal verb, taking into account its diatopic variation and with the help of automatic extraction tools in electronic corpus.

We create a highly controlled laboratory environment – accessible to both global and local monitoring – to analyse turbulent boiling flows and in particular their shear stress in a statistically stationary state. By precisely monitoring the drag of strongly turbulent Taylor–Couette flow (the flow in between two coaxially rotating cylinders, Reynolds number $Re\approx 10^{6}$) during its transition from non-boiling to boiling, we show that the intuitive expectation, namely that a few volume per cent of vapour bubbles would correspondingly change the global drag by a few per cent, is wrong. Rather, we find that for these conditions a dramatic global drag reduction of up to 45 % occurs. We connect this global result to our local observations, showing that for major drag reduction the vapour bubble deformability is crucial, corresponding to Weber numbers larger than one. We compare our findings with those for turbulent flows with gas bubbles, which obey very different physics from those of vapour bubbles. Nonetheless, we find remarkable similarities and explain these.

By [Formula: see text]-method, the interaction Morawetz estimate, long-time Strichartz estimate and local smoothing effect of Schrödinger operator, we show global well-posedness and scattering for the defocusing Hartree equation [Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], with radial data in [Formula: see text] for [Formula: see text]. It is a sharp global result except the critical case [Formula: see text], which is a very difficult open problem.

ABSTRACT Meta-analysis is a technique that allows obtaining a global result from several individual studies. This can only be done after checking that the studies are similar enough to be combined, which will be done with specific statistical methods, the most used being the fixed effect model and the random effects model.

In this paper, we characterize a family of solitary waves for nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) with derivative (DNLS) by the structure analysis and the variational argument. Since DNLS does not enjoy the Galilean invariance any more, the structure analysis here is closely related with the nontrivial momentum and shows the equivalence of nontrivial solutions between the quasilinear and the semilinear equations. Firstly, for the subcritical parameters [Formula: see text] and the critical parameters [Formula: see text], we show the existence and uniqueness of the solitary waves for DNLS, up to the phase rotation and spatial translation symmetries. Secondly, for the critical parameters [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and the supercritical parameters [Formula: see text], there is no nontrivial solitary wave for DNLS. At last, we make use of the invariant sets, which is related to the variational characterization of the solitary wave, to obtain the global existence of solution for DNLS with initial data in the invariant set [Formula: see text], with [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text]. On the one hand, different with the scattering result for the [Formula: see text]-critical NLS in [B. Dodson, Global well-posedness and scattering for the mass critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation with mass below the mass of the ground state, Adv. Math. 285(5) (2015) 1589–1618], the scattering result of DNLS does not hold for initial data in [Formula: see text] because of the existence of infinity many small solitary/traveling waves in [Formula: see text] with [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text]. On the other hand, our global result improves the global result in [Y. Wu, Global well-posedness of the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equations in energy space, Anal. Partial Differential Equations 6(8) (2013) 1989–2002; Global well-posedness on the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation, Anal. Partial Differential Equations 8(5) (2015) 1101–1112] (see Corollary 1.6).

Meta-analysis is a method that allows us to accomplish such a work by combining the results of several studies in order to make an objective synthesis following precise stages. With the help of meta-analysis, we can quantify a global result for the entire studies taken into consideration and obtain a more precise response and a more acceptable generalization. This paper focuses on the steps of meta-analysis on resumed data, which are used more frequently, because they can easily tend towards exhaustiveness. The synthesis work has to be standardized. It consists in four stages: studies’ research, selection, data extraction and analysis. Its feasibility is linked to the existence of a sufficient number of studies that can be included in this meta-analysis. This method has been used in research since 1970 and it became irreplaceable for making recommendations. Its application field is only limited to that of existent studies.
