The interrelation of thermal modes of brake units of transport vehicles on their reliability and durability depending on operational factors of transport is considered. It is assumed that all the kinetic energy of rotating and translationally moving masses in the brake nodes is converted into thermal energy. In this regard, a criterion is used that characterizes the thermal energy released in the brakes and the operational criterion of transport vehicles. Comparison of these criteria makes it possible to evaluate the performance and durability of brake components, as well as to outline ways of their structural perfection depending on heat dissipation.

Based on the analysis of the scientific literature, the peculiarities of the formation of professional competence of future employees of the National Police of Ukraine and its components are determined. The specifics of service activity of patrol policemen are considered. It is stated that the level of professional competence of police officers is low, and sometimes insufficient. A set of requirements for the professional competence and professionalism of law enforcement officers has been formulated. Areas of professional training that need improvement are outlined. The practical aspects of formation of professional competence of patrol police officers are covered. Practical tools aimed at improving the efficiency of the patrol training process as a professional have been developed. The author's method of forming professionally competent patrol police officers is substantiated, its efficiency is tested. The essence of this technique is to introduce into the educational process of simulated situational tasks, which aim to form professional skills and abilities. The pedagogical experiment involved students of the course of primary professional training of police recruits in 2019 (n = 61), who studied at the center of primary professional training «Police Academy» of the National Academy of Internal Affairs (Kyiv). An experimental (n = 31) and control (n = 30) groups were formed. The experimental group included students who studied the author's method, the control group - students who studied the traditional method of teaching. The effectiveness of the author's methodology was evaluated by cognitive and operational criteria. Cognitive criterion was determined by indicators: 1) knowledge of the legislative unit; 2) knowledge of professional and practical direction. The operational criterion was characterized by the following indicators: 1) the formation of professional and practical skills; 2) the effectiveness of scripting. The results of the pedagogical experiment testified to the effectiveness of the author's method in comparison with the traditional one. The use of the proposed innovations contributed to a significant improvement of the cognitive criterion «Knowledge of professional and practical direction» (p <0.05) and indicators of the operational criterion «Formation of professional and practical skills» (p <0.05) and «Effectiveness of scenarios» ( p <0.001). It was stated that the experimental group had a larger number of people with a high and sufficient level of professional competence in the selected indicators. Prospects for further research are to substantiate the means and methods of forming the professional competence of police officers during training in the training system.

Based on Rodrik’s diagnosis of a “globalization trilemma” in designing the institutions of international economic exchange, this chapter suggests a solution that applies Sen’s argument favoring realization-focused comparisons over transcendental institutionalism in evaluating institutions. In the paradigm of deliberative trade policy, this contribution approaches the World Trade Organization (WTO) as a regime of deliberation, reaching beyond the scope of interactions with civil society. This prepares the ground for normative principles of WTO reform that shift the emphasis from efficiency to justice, mainly in the procedural sense. The central operational criterion is the inclusiveness of international trade and trade policy. This is applied on the issues of multilateralism versus regionalism and the design of the dispute settlement process. A WTO renewed under the auspices of deliberative trade policy can meet the challenges of new trade policy issues such as coordination of regulatory regimes under the conditions of rapid and unpredictable technological change, and can resolve the tension between democracy and globalization as laid out in the globalization trilemma.

Abstract Palast der Republik, by the photographer Christoph Rokitta, is an independent photobook published in 2013 in Berlin. In the photobook different semiotic resources are coupled in order to iconically model the demolition of the homonymous building in Berlin. In opposition to the trivial notion of icon as sign that stands for its object in a relation of similarity, we analyze the photobook as an icon whose main feature is the possibility of discovering information about its object through its manipulation. This specific feature is called operational criterion for iconicity, and it stresses the inherent quality of icons of revealing information available through their manipulation and observation. Our aim is to describe and analyze the relations between semiotic resources in this photobook by exploring the operational criterion of iconicity, and models as epistemic artifacts. We are interested in how couplings between semiotic resources in the photobook can iconically model a spatio-temporal process.

Discriminant function analysis is used as a systematic measure of interrelatedness among sites within the Lamine River and Big Bend Localities. Chipped stone projectile points from Mellor, Imhoff, Givens and Fischer-Gabbert were chosen for this analysis. Their selection was based on a suggested operational criterion: that social distance between peoples is reflected in the degree of similarity between artifacts commonly found on contemporaneous Hopewell settlements. Two statistically significant roots are defined, rejecting the null hypothesis that no significant variation occurs among these settlements' projectile points. The Euclidean distances of projectile points in discriminant space are remarkably similar to the site's geographic distribution. This analysis suggests social interaction was greatest within localities and minimal between.
