The aim of this study is to prove that it is possible to control the static behavior of tensegrity plate-like structures. This possibility is very important, particularly in the case of deployable structures. Here, we analyze the impact the support conditions of the structure have on the existence of specific characteristics, such as self-stress states and infinitesimal mechanisms, and, consequently, on the active control. Plates built with Simplex modules are considered. Firstly, the presence of the specific characteristics is examined, and a classification is carried out. Next, the influence of the level of self-stress state on the behavior of structures is analyzed. A geometrically non-linear model, implemented in an original program, written in the Mathematica environment, is used. The results confirm the feasibility of the active control of stiffness of tensegrity plate-like structures characterized by the presence of infinitesimal mechanisms. In the case when mechanisms do not exist, structures are insensitive to the initial prestress level. It is possible to control the occurrence of mechanisms by changing the support conditions of the structure. Based on the obtained results, tensegrity is very promising structural concept, applicable in many areas, when conventional solutions are insufficient.

Abstract The rise of offshore marginal field development and low-cost CAPEX has given an impetus to O&G operators to challenge the common structural platform design especially for wellhead platform type. Demand to reduce the platform weight has been observed for the past 20 years. Typically, the challenge to meet this demand will be tremendous once the water depth exceed 50m. This paper will elaborate on how using an engineered design approach was implemented to obtain fast track onshore fabrication and offshore installation and meet the operator demand for minimal structural concept.

Lodging and recreational activity are essential activities for training, often held at office of Pusat Pengembangan, Pemberdayaan Pendidik dan Tenaga Kependidikan (PPPPTK) Medan. Office of Pusat Pengembangan, Pemberdayaan Pendidik dan Tenaga Kependidikan (PPPPTK) Medan has had one building as a homestead, but as time progress, the demand for this homestead increase because of the increased activity in recent years. Therefore, the expansion of the homestead and recreational space design is vital to support the training activities. This homestead and outdoor recreation centre design use the methodology to solve problems using a qualitative approach and a quantitative approach by following the data and analysis of the surrounding environment as well as the established governmental building guidelines. The implementation of tropical architecture in the design makes it able to achieve efficient use of energy and be environmentally friendly. This can be seen in the mass concept, indoor concept, outdoor concept, structural concept, circulation system, and utility system. Also, this design blends with the local value of the surrounding environment by applying local wisdom.

AbstractDrag reduction technologies in aircraft design are the key enabler for reducing emissions and for sustainable growth of commercial aviation. Laminar wing technologies promise a significant benefit by drag reduction and are, therefore, under investigation in various European projects. However, of the established moveable concepts and high-lift systems thus far most do not cope with the requirements for natural laminar flow wings. To this aim, new leading edge high-lift systems have been the focus of research activities in the last 5 years. Such leading edge devices investigated in projects include a laminar flow-compatible Kruger flap (Schlipf (2011) Insect shielding Krüger—structural design for a laminar flow wing. Neapel, Italien) and these can be considered as alternatives to the conventional slat. Hybrid laminar flow concepts are also under investigation at several research institutes in Europe (Fischer. Another challenge associated with laminar wings aside from the development of leading edge movables is the need to address the control of aerodynamic shocks and buffeting as laminar wings are sensitive to high flow speeds. Here, one possible method of decreasing the wave drag caused by the aerodynamic shock is through the use of shock control bumps (SCBs). The objective of SCBs is the conversion of a single strong shock into several smaller and weaker λ-shocks resulting in a drag benefit when deployed correctly. A particular desirable characteristic of SCBs is that they should be adaptable in position and height as the shock position changes with varying conditions such as speed, altitude, and angle of attack during the flight. However, as a fixed case, SCBs can also help to control laminar buffeting by fixing the shock into given positions at the SCBs location. In this paper, a structural concept for an adaptive shock control bump spoiler is presented. Based on a concept of a fixed bump SCB spoiler, a design for an adaptive spoiler with two conventional actuators is presented. Design drivers and interdependencies of important design parameters are discussed. The presented design is simple and aims for a high TRL without adding much complexity to the spoiler. It is robust and able to form a bump with a height of 0.6% chord length which position can be adapted in a range of 10% chord. This paper is a follow-up of a previous publication (Kintscher and Monner, SAE Tech Paper 10.4271/2017-01-2164, 2017) with extending the focus by a validation of computational results by experimental tests.

The use of the phosphonate motif featuring a carbon-phosphorous bond as bioisosteric replacement of the labile P–O bond is widely recognized as an attractive structural concept in different areas of medicinal chemistry, since it addresses the very fundamental principles of enzymatic stability and minimized metabolic activation. This review discusses the most influential successes in drug design with special emphasis on nucleoside phosphonates and their prodrugs as antiviral and cancer treatment agents. A description of structurally related analogs able to interfere with the transmission of other infectious diseases caused by pathogens like bacteria and parasites will then follow. Finally, molecules acting as agonists/antagonists of P2X and P2Y receptors along with nucleotidase inhibitors will also be covered. This review aims to guide readers through the fundamentals of nucleoside phosphonate therapeutics in order to inspire the future design of molecules to target infections that are refractory to currently available therapeutic options.

The paper presents the analysis of the results of international and national research in the field of studying the impact of global crises and pandemic situations (including COVID-19) on the state of mental health of people. Traditionally, the fear that accompanies emergency events and situations is considered as a source of mental and psychological traumatology of various kinds, however, the authors consider fear in a period of global risks and changes, from the point of view of not the cause, but an indicator of a decrease in the integrity of a person's mental health. The initial theoretical model that allows us to differentiate and diagnose different qualities of fear was the "I-structural" concept of G. Amon, which allows us to describe and understand the specific phenomenology of fears in the pandemic period. The qualities of fear, manifested in its constructive, destructive and deficient form, according to the authors, reflect the resource reserve of a person's mental health and the level of his psychological stability.
