AbstractThe complex interplay between thermal, hydrodynamic, and electromagnetic, forces governs the evolution of multi-phase systems in high technology applications, such as advanced manufacturing and fusion power plant operation. In this work, a new formulation of the time dependent magnetic induction equation is fully coupled to a set of conservation laws for multi-phase fluid flow, energy transport and chemical species transport that describes melting and solidification state transitions. A finite-volume discretisation of the resulting system of equations is performed, where a novel projection method is formulated to ensure that the magnetic field remains divergence free. The proposed framework is validated by accurately replicating a Hartmann flow profile. Further validation is performed through correctly predicting the experimentally observed trajectory of Argon bubbles rising in a liquid metal under varying applied magnetic fields. Finally, the applicability of the framework to technologically relevant processes is illustrated through the simulation of an electrical arc welding process between dissimilar metals. The proposed framework addresses an urgent need for numerical methods to understand the evolution of multi-phase systems with large electromagnetic property contrast.

Electric and magnetic fields (EMFs) are indefinable regions of energy that are often referred to as Radiation and are linked to the use of electricity as well as various natural and man-made phenomena. Due to continuous exposure to Unexplained and negative EMF, people experienced stress, anxiety, Hypoxia, and even long-term exposure result in Cancer to patients. On the other hand, Rudraksha seeds are globally known as electromagnetic seeds due to their positive electromagnetic healing effect. This research was conducted to find the consequence of the Negative EMF effect on human pulse rate and Oxygen carrying capacity in blood and the use of Rudraksha to study cut off harmful effect of negative EMF by this Electromagnetic property.  This topic constitutes a new domain with the largely unstudied potential of Rudraksha seeds shielding effect on Unexplained Negative Electromagnetic Radiation. Keywords: EMF, Rudraksha, electromagnetic seeds, human pulse rate, Oxygen carrying capacity, Negative Electromagnetic Radiation.

A diamond’s color grading is a dominant property that determines its market value. Its color quality is dependent on the light transmittance through the diamond and is largely influenced by nitrogen contamination, which induces a yellow/brown tint within the diamond, as well as by structural defects in the crystal (in rare cases boron contamination results in a blue tint). Generally, spectroscopic instrumentation (in the infrared or UV–visible spectral range) is used in industry to measure polished and rough diamonds, but the results are not accurate enough for precise determination of color grade. Thus, new methods should be developed to determine the color grade of diamonds at longer wavelengths, such as microwave (MV). No difference exists between rough and polished diamonds regarding stray light when the MW frequency is used. Thus, several waveguides that cover a frequency range of 3.95–26.5 GHz, as well as suitable resonator mirrors, have been developed using transmission/reflection and resonator methods. A good correlation between the S12 parameter and the nitrogen contamination content was found using the transmission/reflection method. It was concluded that electromagnetic property measurements of diamonds in the MW frequency range can be used to determine their nitrogen content and color grading. The MW technique results were in good agreement with those obtained from the infrared spectra of diamonds.

A cryogen-free portable 3 T high-temperature superconducting magnet for an electromagnetic property measurement system has been developed to serve as a user facility at the Korea Basic Science Institute. The metallic insulation method was adopted to reduce the charging delay without sacrificing the self-protecting feature. A genetic-algorithm-aided optimized design was carried out to minimize the superconducting tape consumption while satisfying several design constraints. After the design, the compact high-temperature superconducting magnet composed of eight double-pancake coil modules was wound with high-temperature superconducting tape and stainless steel tape, and integrated with a two-stage cryo-cooler. The 3 T magnet was successfully cooled to approximately 20 K with a cryo-cooler and reached the target field of 3 T without any problems. Long-term measurements and a range of other tests were also implemented to verity the performance of the magnet. Test results demonstrated the feasibility of a cryogen-free portable high-temperature superconducting magnet system for electromagnetic property measurement experiments.

Lift-offs of the sensor could significantly affect the measurement signal and reconstruction of material properties when using the electromagnetic (inductive) eddy current sensor. Previously, various methods (including novel sensor designs, and features like zero-crossing frequency, lift-off point of intercept) have been used for eliminating the measurement error caused by the lift-off distance effect of the sensor. However, these approaches can only be applied for a small range of lift-off variations. In this paper, a linear relationship has been found between the sensor lift-off and ratio of dual-frequency eddy current signals, particularly under the high working dual frequencies. Based on this linear relationship, the lift-off variation can be reconstructed firstly with a small error of 2.5 % when its actual value is up to 10 mm (10.1 % for 20 mm). The reconstructed lift-off is used to further get the property of the material under a low single frequency. Experiments on different ferrous metals have been carried out for the testing of the reconstruction scheme. Since the inductance is more sensitive to the material property (and less sensitive to the lift-off) under low frequencies, the reconstruction error of the material property is much smaller than that of the lift-off, with 1.4 % under 12 mm (and 4.5 % under 20 mm).

The development of the Electromagnetic Property Measurement System is underway at the Korea Basic Science Institute. The Electromagnetic Property Measurement System is used for electrical, thermal, and magnetic specimen property measurements in variable magnetic fields and temperatures with a low-temperature superconducting magnet. To activate low-temperature superconducting magnet that operates with liquid helium, we propose the use of vapor-cooled current leads. The low-temperature superconducting magnet is connected to the power supply at room temperature through a pair of current leads. Accordingly, heat inflows through the current leads and represents one of the major contributory factors of the entire heat inflow. Therefore, design optimization and evaluation of the current leads is necessary to minimize heat and liquid helium consumption. Vapor-cooled, and hybrid current leads were designed and fabricated, and testing in liquid helium cryostat was conducted. The low-temperature superconducting magnet was charged with electrical current up to the operating level, and the liquid helium boil-off rate was measured with respect to the supplied electrical current level. The performances of the two current leads were accessed based on the thermal load and boil-off rate of the liquid helium. The experimental and analyzed liquid helium boil-off rates associated with the current leads were in close agreement.

Crosshole ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is applied in areas that require a very detailed subsurface characterization. Analysis of such data typically relies on tomographic inversion approaches providing an image of subsurface parameters. We have developed an approach for processing the reflected energy in crosshole GPR data and applied it on GPR data acquired in different sedimentary settings. Our approach includes muting of the first arrivals, separating the up- and the downgoing wavefield components, and backpropagating the reflected energy by a generalized Kirchhoff migration scheme. We obtain a reflection image that contains information on the location of electromagnetic property contrasts, thus outlining subsurface architecture in the interborehole plane. In combination with velocity models derived from different tomographic approaches, these images allow for a more detailed interpretation of subsurface structures without the need to acquire additional field data. In particular, a combined interpretation of the reflection image and the tomographic velocity model improves the ability to locate layer boundaries and to distinguish different subsurface units. To support our interpretations of our field data examples, we compare our crosshole reflection results with independent information, including borehole logs and surface GPR data.
