A hydrodynamic study on the asymmetrical water impact of two-dimensional wedges with roll angle is presented. The slam induced loads on the wedges entering calm water with both vertical and horizontal velocities are predicted based on the explicit finite element method. The effects of the horizontal impact velocity and the roll angle are investigated through the predicted results of pressure distribution, pressure variation during the water entry and total impact force, which are also compared with analytical formulations and other numerical calculations. The present method gives reasonable predictions, compared to the numerical and analytical results.

The present study gives a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) based insight into the three-dimensional incident flow developed around a very large crude carrier ship during static drift motion. The research proposes a set of virtual Planar Motion Mechanism (PMM) tests of “static drift” type conducted for a number of seven drift angles in the range of -9o to +9o . The emergence and development of vortical structures along the 1:58 KRISO Very Large Crude Carrier 2 (KVLCC2) tanker model are examined and explained, the influence of the considered drift angles being highlighted.

A system with one degree of freedom is far from reality, because we do not take into account all the degrees of freedom. In order to be close to the reality, it is necessary to use a system with several degrees of freedom. Efforts in this chapter are concentrated to the study of multi-degrees of freedom system, whether for a free undamped and forced damped system, by detailing the modal superposition method as well as a coupled coordinates. We finish the chapter with hydrodynamic study using Hozner method as well as some applications.
