Cigarette smoke (CS) is the major cause of preventable death worldwide, and it can also cause damage to extrapulmonary organs, such as the liver, mainly due the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The liver is an essential organ for human survival since it is mainly responsible for the body metabolism and among other things and it is the place where many endogenous and exogenous substances undergo biological transformation. Lycopene is a nonprovitamin A carotenoid found in red fruits and vegetables, and its role as a potent antioxidant is well known. In this study, we hypothesized that lycopene could protect mouse liver against long-term CS exposure. Thirty C57BL/6 mice were exposed to twelve cigarette smoke (12 cigarettes per day) for 60 days and pretreated with 25 mg/kg/day or 50 mg/kg/day of lycopene via orogastric gavage. After euthanasia, the hepatic tissue was collected for histopathological, antioxidant defense, oxidative stress, inflammatory, and collagen deposition analysis. Our analysis demonstrated that lycopene results in a suitable outcome to ameliorate the pathological changes, inflammatory and antioxidant profile in a mouse model of long-term CS exposure, and collagen accumulation in the hepatic extracellular matrix. This study demonstrates for the first time that supplementation of lycopene can be a possible pharmacological tool for the treatment of hepatic damage caused by exposure to long-term CS.

An impressive number of thousands of plants have been utilising for the treatment of diseases for thousands of years. Many of them are clearly explained in Ayurveda. In Ayurveda certain drugs manifest their action by their Rasa (taste); some by their Virya (potency) or other qualities, some by Vipaka (biological transformation) and others by their specific action. As per their Raspanchak, some of these drugs possesses an affinity for bala. The drugs that provide Bala (strength) and vitality to the body have been grouped under Balya mahakashaya by Acharya Charak. Bala (strength) plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases. This study aimed to discuss the details of ten Balya Mahakashya drugs based on their Raspanchak i.e Rasa, Guna, Vi- rya, Vipaka and Karma and in relation to Bhavaprakash Nighantu, Dhanwantari Nighantu, Raj Nighantu and Kaiyadev Nighantu. Keywords: Bala, Balya Mahakashaya, Raspanchak, Nighantu.

Agricultural activity is a type of operational activity carried out by an entity to manage biological transformation and harvested biological assets to be sold or converted into agricultural products. In biological transformation, measurement is needed, which shows the value of a biological asset in fair value with the entity's economic benefits. PSAK 69 concerning agriculture has been approved by the Indonesian Financial Accounting Standards Board (DSAK IAI), and its implementation becomes effective as of 1 January 2018. PSAK 69 Agriculture regulates the accounting treatment and disclosures related to agricultural activities. This research was conducted to determine the accounting treatment of agricultural activities and the implementation of PSAK 69 to PT IJ, which is one of the entities whose business activities are engaged in the exploitation of industrial plantations. This study used qualitative research methods with interpretive paradigms and ethnomethodology approaches. Data analysis techniques were used at the time of data collection in observations, interviews with informants, and collecting documents in financial statements supporting data research. Based on the research conducted, the discussion results signify that the accounting treatment of agricultural activities at PT IJ in recognition, measurement, recording, presentation, and disclosure is in accordance with PSAK 69 concerning agriculture.

The chemical composition of hop sediments from beer brewing and fermentation gives them the potential for further use. These wastes are not generated in large amounts, but the absence of proper characteristics may lead to processing errors. This study examines the possibility of using hop waste for aerobic biological transformation processes (composting). The study was carried out on two hop sediments from two different technological stages of beer production: hot trub and spent hops. Chemical, microbiological, and biochemical analyses were performed in the composted hop sediments, as was the assessment of phytotoxicity to Lepidium sativum L. The tested feedstocks were partially inhabited by microorganisms and thus safe from an epidemiological point of view, and they were not a source of microbial contamination. Inhibitory properties for plant development were found for hot trub, which most likely result from the organic compound content. If it is only a small portion of its biomass, the mineral composition of hot trub does not exclude the possibility of its composting. Spent hops were characterized by a significant total nitrogen content, which affected the composting process. Composting this sediment required the selection of substrates with a widely C:N ratio.

The technological advantages that biosensors have over conventional technical sensors for odor detection and the role they play in the biological transformation have not yet been comprehensively analyzed. However, this is necessary for assessing their suitability for specific fields of application as well as their improvement and development goals. An overview of biological basics of olfactory systems is given and different odor sensor technologies are described and classified in this paper. Specific market potentials of biosensors for odor detection are identified by applying a tailored methodology that enables the derivation and systematic comparison of both the performance profiles of biosensors as well as the requirement profiles for various application fields. Therefore, the fulfillment of defined requirements is evaluated for biosensors by means of 16 selected technical criteria in order to determine a specific performance profile. Further, a selection of application fields, namely healthcare, food industry, agriculture, cosmetics, safety applications, environmental monitoring for odor detection sensors is derived to compare the importance of the criteria for each of the fields, leading to market-specific requirement profiles. The analysis reveals that the requirement criteria considered to be the most important ones across all application fields are high specificity, high selectivity, high repeat accuracy, high resolution, high accuracy, and high sensitivity. All these criteria, except for the repeat accuracy, can potentially be better met by biosensors than by technical sensors, according to the results obtained. Therefore, biosensor technology in general has a high application potential for all the areas of application under consideration. Health and safety applications especially are considered to have high potential for biosensors due to their correspondence between requirement and performance profiles. Special attention is paid to new areas of application that require multi-sensing capability. Application scenarios for multi-sensing biosensors are therefore derived. Moreover, the role of biosensors within the biological transformation is discussed.
