In this study, the experimental design is developed based on the testing procedure for the lifetime performance index of products following Weibull lifetime distribution under progressive type I interval censoring. This research topic is related to asymmetrical probability distributions and applications across disciplines. The asymptotic distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator of the lifetime performance index is utilized to develop the testing procedure. In order to reach the given power level, the minimum sample size is determined and tabulated. In order to minimize the total cost that occurred under progressive type I interval censoring, the sampling design is investigated to determine the minimum number of inspection intervals and equal interval lengths when the termination time of experiment is fixed or not fixed. For illustrative aims, one practical example is given for the implementation of our proposed sampling design to collect the progressive type I interval censored sample so that the users can use this sample to test if the lifetime performance index exceeds the desired target level.

With the high demands on the quality of high-tech products for consumers, assuring the lifetime performance is a very important task for competitive manufacturing industries. The lifetime performance index CL is frequently used to monitor the larger-the-better lifetime performance of products. This research is related to the topic of asymmetrical probability distributions and applications across disciplines. Chen lifetime distribution with a bathtub shape or increasing failure rate function has many applications in the lifetime data analysis. We derived the uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator (UMVUE) for CL, and we used this estimator to develop a hypothesis testing procedure of CL under a lower specification limit based on the progressive type-II censored sample. The Bayesian estimator for CL is also derived, and it is used to develop another hypothesis testing procedure. A simulation study is conducted to compare the average confidence levels for two procedures. Finally, one practical example is given to illustrate the implementation of our proposed non-Bayesian and Bayesian testing procedure.

Given a progressively type-II censored sample, the E-Bayesian estimates, which are the expected Bayesian estimates over the joint prior distributions of the hyper-parameters in the gamma prior distribution of the unknown Weibull rate parameter, are developed for any given function of unknown rate parameter under the square error loss function. In order to study the impact from the selection of hyper-parameters for the prior, three different joint priors of the hyper-parameters are utilized to establish the theoretical properties of the E-Bayesian estimators for four functions of the rate parameter, which include an identity function (that is, a rate parameter) as well as survival, hazard rate and quantile functions. A simulation study is also conducted to compare the three E-Bayesian and a Bayesian estimate as well as the maximum likelihood estimate for each of the four functions considered. Moreover, two real data sets from a medical study and industry life test, respectively, are used for illustration. Finally, concluding remarks are addressed.

Shannon’s entropy plays important role in the information theory. However, it can’t be applied to systems which have survived for some time. Therefore, the concept of residual entropy was developed. In this paper, the estimation of the entropy of a two-parameter inverse Weibull distribution based on the generalized type-II hybrid censored sample is considered. The Bayes estimator for the residual entropy of the Inverse Weibull distribution under the generalized type-II hybrid censored sample is given. Simulation experiments are conducted to see the effectiveness of the different estimators.

Abstract The paper revisits the entropy-based efficiency of the type-I censored sample, which was addressed by several previous works. The main purpose of this work is to provide a comprehensive definition of the efficiency function and give a general proof that the entropy of a censored sample is always less than that of the complete sample for any probability distribution and at any point of censoring. A simulation study is performed to validate our results, and a real-data example is reevaluated.

This paper is concerned with the estimation of the Weibull generalized exponential distribution (WGED) parameters based on the adaptive Type-II progressive (ATIIP) censored sample. Maximum likelihood estimation (MLE), maximum product spacing (MPS), and Bayesian estimation based on Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods have been determined to find the best estimation method. The Monte Carlo simulation is used to compare the three methods of estimation based on the ATIIP-censored sample, and also, we made a bootstrap confidence interval estimation. We will analyze data related to the distribution about single carbon fiber and electrical data as real data cases to show how the schemes work in practice.

In this article, we considered the statistical inference for the unknown parameters of exponentiated exponential distribution based on a generalized progressive hybrid censored sample under classical paradigm. We have obtained maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters and confidence intervals utilizing asymptotic theory. Entropy measures, such as Shannon entropy and Awad sub-entropy, have been obtained to measure loss of information owing to censoring. Further, the expected total time of the test and expected number of failures, which are useful during the execution of an experiment, also have been computed. The performance of the estimators have been discussed based on mean squared errors. Moreover, the effect of choice of parameters, termination time T, and m on the ETTT and ETNFs also have been observed. For illustrating the proposed methodology, a real data set is considered.
