Examined is the application of social service with aim of education at university. At present, education in the university often takes place in a mixed format, with the active use of distance technologies. This context increasingly raises the question of using new methods and techniques that could make the educational process more effective and interesting for students. Under these conditions, teachers have increasingly begun to turn their attention to the Web 2.0 technologies, which represent a qualitatively new approach to the construction of the educational process. This article deals with the social service Wiki, which is more often used in the educational process of the university. From the teaching point of view, the Wiki service allows creating conditions for students when they have to analyze large amounts of information, select the most important, summarize and draw conclusions. It also allows students to critically review articles and collaboratively correct or improve them. The use of the Wiki service in the educational process is of great importance for students as well because its interactivity transforms them from pure information consumers into active users. This article presents examples of using the social service Wiki in the educational process of Penza State Technological University within the framework of the disciplines “Foreign language (German)” and “Methods of teaching and education”.

Project Based Learning (PBL) is a very popular teaching strategy nowadays because it offers a great number of advantages and/or opportunities from a teaching point of view, such as achieving a deeper learning, developing teamwork and leadership skills, or getting the student to take control of what and how to learn. For all these reasons, the authors believe that, in the context of the Master's studies, as the last studies before insertion into working life, the PBL can be a very appropriate teaching methodology, since well thought out it will prepare students for the real situations that they will later experience in their professional lives. The objective of this workis to present the experience of the application of PBL in the development of a common project for four subjects of the University Master in Engineering, Processing and Characterization of Materials, taught at the Polytechnic School of Alcoy, belonging to the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV).

Writing is one of the most important courses to take within higher education in the twenty-first century, especially when aligning education that will meet individual career goals. According to the Nation's Report Card on Writing, in 2011 alone, only about a quarter of young people can write proficiently. There is a need to institute change to developing and increasing the amount and quality of writing students are expected to produce. There is a need for greater collaboration for student learning by using innovative pedagogies that maintain the complexity and importance of pioneering work while showing that it is, in some cases, negotiable with traditional classroom practices. There are three specific examples: teaching point of view with multicultural studies, incorporating language awareness/critical theory into the composting process, and considering prescriptive suggestions in the workshop. Discussions of large-scale structural change should and will continue, but this article—which reviews how some theorists situate and enact innovation, include narratives of student resistance, and discuss practices that reframe more traditional activities—invites instructors to reflect on recent scholarship and consider larger educational goals for their classrooms.

Abstract This is a brief report of a 17-year-old male who presented to the emergency department with odynophagia and a foreign body sensation in the throat after choking on a chicken wing. A soft tissue neck radiograph was performed which revealed a 4.6 centimeter linear object in the vallecula read by the radiology department as a chicken bone. The otolaryngology team was consulted and performed a nasopharyngeal laryngoscopy which did not reveal a foreign body in the upper aerodigestive tract. On physical examination, the right tonsillar fossa was tender to palpation. Upon further review of the radiograph, the right stylohyoid ligament was noted to be elongated and calcified. Thereafter, the diagnosis of Eagle syndrome was made. This case provides an important teaching point for providers by pointing out a syndrome that can mimic other disease processes. In addition, it emphasizes the importance of providers reviewing their own films.
