Maintenance Identification on Vertical Garden at Fairmont Sanur Beach Bali. Fairmont Sanur Beach Bali has a vertical garden with an area of 10 m x 4 m. The Hotel is able to maintain the plant condition. The purpose of this research is to identify the vertical garden maintenance system at the Fairmont Sanur Beach Bali. The research method uses survey and literature study methods. Data collection techniques are observation, interview, and literature study. Data analysis methods with descriptive methods and scoring tables. The results about the identification of vertical garden maintenance systems consist of watering, water disposal system, trimming, fertilizing, replanting plants, media replacement, sanitation, pest and disease control. Watering in 2 hours creating high humidity in the media. The volume of water released is not fully experienced evapotranspiration. The planting media do not experience drought during the day, so the plants keep fresh. In the calculation of plant suitability values, the corresponding values are Hemigraphis alternata. Plants with adequate value are Epipremnum aureum, Asparagus densiflorus, Ananas bracteatus tricolor, Schefflera Arboricola, and Portulaca grandiflora. In the maintenance process requires a fertigation system to facilitate fertilization. The use of automated systems such as timmers will simplify the maintenance and a more scheduled.

Urban population spends most of their time indoors leading to multiple problems. Making an indoor vertical garden and associating people to this new concept will help build the indoor environment with improved energy efficiency, indoor air quality, their improved health and well-being. Of all of the factors affecting plant growth in interiors, adequate light is by far the most important. LED is an efficient, energy-saving light source widely used in artificial light plant production systems. Lack of scientific information regarding the light intensity requirement for optimum growth of the indoor ornamental plant species under Indian conditions makes the study of utmost importance. Five indoor ornamental plant species namely, Schefflera arboricola, Dracaena godseffiana, Philodendron salloum, Syngonium podophyllum and Scindapsis aureus were planted in pots (5”) with soil less media arranged as vertical structures (6?11”x4?3”) aligned to interiors walls of a room. Four such structures/frames were fabricated, fertigated with 100 % of the Hoagland solution and artificially illuminated using LED lighting system (PWM controlled) with different light intensities i.e. 700-1100 lux (LI I), 1100-1500 lux (LI II), 1500- 1900 lux (LI III) and LI IV had no artificial light illumination (control). From the most effective positive response of plant species under study on the basis of their growth response towards different light intensities, it was concluded that Philodendron salloum responded best to LI I (700-1100 lux), Scindapsis aureus to LI II (1100-1500 lux), Dracaena godseffiana, Schefflera arboricola and Syngonium podophyllum to LI III (1500-1900 lux).

Stomatal conductance (SC) and chlorophyll concentration (CC) are sensitive to soil matric suction (ψ). The relationship between these two plant parameters and ψ in root zone can help understand the water uptake efficiency and photosynthetic capacity of a plant. This paper aims to quantify the relationships between SC and CC with ψ, for Schefflera arboricola grown in compacted bare silty sand and biochar amended soil (BAS). Plant parameters (SC, CC, leaf area (LA), root length (RL)) and ψ were regularly monitored in an atmospheric controlled room. The maximum recorded SC was greater in BAS than that in bare soil due to the higher water demand of LA. Based on measured data upon evapotranspiration, two equations are proposed to interpret the effects of ψ on plant water uptake and photosynthesis. A fitting equation is established to relate normalized SC with ψ to identify a threshold suction (ψNSCt; indicator of drought stress resistance). The magnitude of ψNSCt is found to be mainly dependent on LA/RL ratio and root ends. Furthermore, a new relationship between CC and ψ is observed and developed. A decrease in CC at higher ψ is attributed to leaf senescence and stomatal closure, restricting plant to produce more chlorophyll.

A new lignan, arborlignan A, along with five known substances, neoechinulin A, 4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde, 3,3′-dimethoxy-4,4′-dihydroxystilbene, β-hydroxypropiovanillone, and coniferyl aldehyde, are isolated from Schefflera arboricola. Their structures are elucidated by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy experiments and by comparison with literature data. These compounds are isolated from the genus Schefflera for the first time.

Penelitian true experimental design ini bertujuan menemukan keefektifan penggunaan tanaman untuk mengurangi polusi suara. Tanaman yang digunakan ialah asoka (Saraca asoca), pucuk merah (Syzygium oleina), dan walisongo (Schefflera arboricola). Diperoleh hasil berupa tanaman asoka memiliki keefektifan kategori tinggi dengan nilai sebesar 0,96 serta walisongo dan pucuk merah memiliki keefektifan sedang masing-masing bernilai 0,53 dan 0,62. Melalui penelitian ini tampak bahwa salah satu manfaat tanaman ialah dapat dipakai untuk mengurangi polusi suara, yang merupakan salah satu bentuk pencemaran lingkungan.

Abstract The fumigation activity of phosphine (PH3) and ethyl formate (EF) and their phytotoxicity to 13 imported foliage nursery plant species were evaluated. The lethal concentration and time (LCT99) values of the PH3 indicated that the susceptibility of the nymphs (3.95 and <0.45 mg·h/liter, respectively) was higher than that of the adults (5.29 and 3.66 mg·h/liter, respectively) of two mealybugs [Pseudococcus longispinus (Targioni-Tozzetti) and P. orchidicola Takahashi]. The highest concentration reduction rate of PH3 and EF on the 13 foliage nursery plants in the 12-liter desiccator was 41.5% for Heteropanax fragrans and 71.7% for Schefflera arboricola, respectively, which indicates that PH3 has a lower sorption rate than EF. The phytotoxicities of PH3-treated foliage nursery plants did not significantly differ from those of the nontreated plants, but EF caused phytotoxicity in 11 foliage nursery plants a week after treatment. When the exposure time of PH3 increased to 24 h, the adults and nymphs of both mealybug species showed 100% mortality in the 0.5 m3 fumigation chamber. In the 10 m3 fumigation container used in the field, there was 100% mortality of both mealybugs after treatment with 2 g/m3 PH3 for 24 h at 16°C. These results indicate that EF is not a suitable mealybug fumigant due to its high sorption and phytotoxicity to foliage nursery plants, despite fumigation activity against the two species. However, PH3 seems to be suitable for mealybug fumigation in foliage nursery plants and can be used as a substitute for methyl bromide.
