<b><i>Objective:</i></b> We aimed to evaluate the effect of temporary ligation of the uterine artery on postpartum bleeding during uncomplicated cesarean section. <b><i>Design:</i></b> This was a prospective, randomized, and controlled study. We recruited a total of 200 patients, including 100 cases and 100 controls. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> The bilateral uterine artery was temporarily clamped 2 cm below the uterine incision in the study group and compared with controls. Patient demographics, the amount of intraoperative bleeding, the duration of the operation, the closure time of the uterine incision, the need for additional uterotonics, the need for additional sutures, and the hemoglobin values before and after birth were assessed. <b><i>Results:</i></b> The mean value of the amount of bleeding in the clamped and control groups was 267.3 ± 131.8 mL and 390.2 ± 116.4 mL, respectively. The amount of bleeding was significantly decreased for clamped group (<i>p</i> &#x3c; 0.001). A significant reduction occurred in the results of pre- and postoperative values of hemoglobin and hematocrit difference, operation duration, and the closing time of the uterine incision in the experimental group which has temporary uterine artery clamping. <b><i>Limitations:</i></b> The cases of recurrent cesareans were not included in this study. <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> Temporary uterine artery ligation can be used to reduce the amount of bleeding during uncomplicated cesarean delivery and prevent postpartum hemorrhage.

We consider a Petri net for the producer/consumer problem (one of the classical synchronization problems) with the bounded buffer of size n and the regular formal languages Ln, generated by the net. The objective of this paper is to obtain a regular expression for the set difference of languages Ln \ Lm, n > m. For this purpose, we give the finite automaton which accepts the set difference of mentioned languages, and then we use the state elimination method to obtain the regular expression in the recursive form. The main result is illustrated by the examples. In an appendix, we consider the problem with two producers and two consumers with the bounded buffer of size 1. We give a reachability graph and propose the method for obtaining the regular expression. The explicit formulas are given for the problem with two producers and one consumer and also for the problem with one producer and two consumers.

Grain moisture is one of the key indexes of grain quality, and acquiring an accurate moisture value is critical for grain storage security. However, the sensors used in the traditional methods for testing grain moisture are based on capacitance, microwave, or radio-frequency methods and still exhibit low accuracy and instability because they are susceptible to the temperature, moisture, and micro gas flow of the air in the granary. In this study, we employed a new design for a radio-frequency moisture sensor for grain. The structure of the sensor is based on the difference method and consists of two parallel probe units. These units are at different distances to the tested grain, resulting in different sensitivities in the moisture measurements. Through a phase difference operation on the test signals, the disturbance variable was reduced. The specific size of the two parallel probes was confirmed by calculation and simulation using High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) software. The simulated and measured parameters of a prototype sensor agreed well. The linear relationship yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.9904, and the average error of the moisture testing was within ±0.3% under the conditions where the VSWR (voltage standing wave ratio) value and return losses were 1.5896 and −20 dB, respectively, at a measured central frequency of 100 MHz. The results indicate that the performance of the sensor was excellent.

<p>Currently, remote monitoring systems have evolvedto respond to the peculiar needs in the healthcare industry, suchas Cardiovascular diseases, which is an essential foundation in themodern concept of the smart city. We propose a system to monitorpatient current health conditions as a healthcare system basedon the widely spread available low-cost technologies, namely,GSM and Arduino platform. Statistics show that hypertensiveheart disease and blood pressure are risk factors for the highdeath rate. To decrease it, preventive measures should be appliedproviding a health monitoring system to save the patient life atan acceptable time. The objective of this paper is to developa prototype of a low-cost system, that is capable of performingremote monitoring of a patient’s heart rate and body temperaturein real-time and stores the data on the memory card using low-cost hardware such as Arduino, and also, using the servicesprovided by the GSM network, to enable communication witha health specialists cell phone upon request or if there areanomalies in the values measured by the sensors. The studyfocuses on heartbeat rate using the Difference Operation Method(DOM), described by Yeh & Wang, and body temperature, thus,in case of emergency, a short call is done, and then an SMS issent to the health specialist’s mobile containing measured values.Using this algorithm and after some tests using data from theMIT BIH Database distribution, we manage to find the bestsample frequency and eliminate the distortion of the signal.</p> sample frequency and eliminate the distortion of the signal.

<p>Aiming at solving the problems of bad imperceptibility and low embedding rate of existing algorithms, a novel large-capacity reversible image watermarking based on improved difference expansion (DE) is proposed. Firstly, the smoothness calculation algorithm is used to calculate and sort the smoothness values of the divided image sub-blocks; then, the scrambled watermark is embedded into the sub-blocks with less smoothness after removing the abrupt point by using the generalized difference expansion (GDE); finally, the absolute difference operation is applied to the generated overflow pixels to make their pixel values within a reasonable range for embedding watermark information. Under the premise of ensuring a certain visual quality, multiple watermark embedding can effectively improve the embedding rate. The simulation results show that this algorithm not only realizes blind extraction, but also recovers the original images without loss. At the same time, this algorithm achieves a high embedding rate (the average embedding rate is as high as 77.91 dB) without decreasing the visual quality.</p>

The defect characteristics of rolling bearing are difficult to excavate at the incipient injury phase; in order to effectively solve this issue, an original strategy fusing recursive singular spectrum decomposition (RSSD) with optimized cyclostationary blind deconvolution (OCYCBD) is put forward to achieve fault characteristic enhanced detection. In this diagnosis strategy, the data-driven RSSD method without predetermined component number is proposed. In addition, a new morphological difference operation entropy (MDOE) indicator, which takes advantage of morphological transformation and Shannon entropy, is developed for confirming the influencing parameters of cyclostationary blind deconvolution (CYCBD). During the process of fault detection, RSSD is firstly adopted to preprocess the original signal, and the most sensitive singular spectrum component (SSC) is selected by the envelope spectrum peak (ESP) indicator. Then, the grid search algorithm is adopted to precisely confirm the optimal parameters and OCYCBD is further performed as a postprocessing technology on the most sensitive component to suppress the residual interferences and amplify the fault signatures. Finally, the enhanced fault detection of rolling bearing is able to achieve by analyzing the envelope spectrum of deconvolution signal. The feasibility of the proposed strategy is verified by the simulated and the measured signals, respectively, and its superiority is also demonstrated through several comparison methods. The results manifest this novel strategy has praisable advantages on weak characteristic extraction and intensification.

The task of Visual Question Answering (VQA) has emerged in recent years for its potential applications. To address the VQA task, the model should fuse feature elements from both images and questions efficiently. Existing models fuse image feature element vi and question feature element qi directly, such as an element product viqi. Those solutions largely ignore the following two key points: 1) Whether vi and qi are in the same space. 2) How to reduce the observation noises in vi and qi. We argue that two differences between those two feature elements themselves, like (vi − vj) and (qi −qj), are more probably in the same space. And the difference operation would be beneficial to reduce observation noise. To achieve this, we first propose Differential Networks (DN), a novel plug-and-play module which enables differences between pair-wise feature elements. With the tool of DN, we then propose DN based Fusion (DF), a novel model for VQA task. We achieve state-of-the-art results on four publicly available datasets. Ablation studies also show the effectiveness of difference operations in DF model.
