This article examines how racial and linguistic identities are constructed on the Australian reality TV show Border Security. Based on an analysis of 108 episodes of the show involving 253 border force officers and 128 passengers, we explore how the hegemonic Australian identity of the White native speaker of English is constructed on the show. Officers are represented as a relatively uniform group of heroes devoted to protecting Australia’s national security. Simultaneously, most of them look white and sound like native speakers of Australian English. In contrast to the officers, passengers, as their antagonists, do not have a predominant racial or linguistic profile. They are represented as highly diverse. What unites them is not any racial or linguistic profile but that they represent a security risk. Threat thus comes to be mapped onto diversity. The show’s schema of heroes and antagonists invites the audience to identify with the heroes. By identifying with the White-English heroes, the audience also comes to take on their power of judgment over its diverse linguistic and racial Others. The analysis shows how the White-English identity bundle is constructed as the authoritative and legitimate position of the judging knower. The article’s main contribution is to show how the raciolinguistic construct of the White-English complex is made hegemonic in a diverse society officially committed to multiculturalism.

Sabellida Levinsen, 1883 is a large morphologically uniform group of sedentary annelids commonly known as fanworms. These annelids live in tubes made either of calcareous carbonate or mucus with agglutinated sediment. They share the presence of an anterior crown consisting of radioles and the division of the body into thorax and abdomen marked by a chaetal and fecal groove inversion. This study synthesises the current state of knowledge about the diversity of fanworms in the broad sense (morphological, ecological, species richness), the species occurrences in the different biogeographic regions, highlights latest surveys, provides guidelines for identification of members of each group, and describe novel methodologies for species delimitation. As some members of this group are well-known introduced pests, we address information about these species and their current invasive status. In addition, an overview of the current evolutionary hypothesis and history of the classification of members of Sabellida is presented. The main aim of this review is to highlight the knowledge gaps to stimulate research in those directions.

ABSTRACT According to most literature sources, the amplitude of the pulsational variability observed in γ Doradus stars does not exceed 0.1 mag in Johnson V. We have analysed fifteen high-amplitude γ Doradus stars with photometric peak-to-peak amplitudes well beyond this limit, with the aim of unraveling the mechanisms behind the observed high amplitudes and investigating whether these objects are in any way physically distinct from their low-amplitude counterparts. We have calculated astrophysical parameters and investigated the location of the high-amplitude γ Doradus stars and a control sample of fifteen low-amplitude objects in the log Teff versus log L/L⊙ diagram. Employing survey data and our own observations, we analysed the photometric variability of our target stars using discrete Fourier transform. Correlations between the observed primary frequencies, amplitudes and other parameters like effective temperature and luminosity were investigated. The unusually high amplitudes of the high-amplitude γ Doradus stars can be explained by the superposition of several base frequencies in interaction with their combination and overtone frequencies. Although the maximum amplitude of the primary frequencies does not exceed an amplitude of 0.1 mag, total light variability amplitudes of over 0.3 mag (V) can be attained in this way. Low- and high-amplitude γ Doradus stars do not appear to be physically distinct in any other respect than their total variability amplitudes but merely represent two ends of the same, uniform group of variables.

Most species of Euconnus (Cladoconnus) inhabit West Palaearctic, and only three are known from East Asia. The latter form a morphologically uniform group that comprises E. ussuriensis (Primorsky Krai), E. matsuae (Central Honshu) and E. nakahamai (Shikoku). These species cannot be reliably distinguished by external features; they differ mainly in the shape of the endophallic sclerites. Diagnostic characters of these species are summarized, and a new member of the E. ussuriensis species group is described, Euconnus (Cladoconnus) rudimentalis n. sp. (South Korea). Members of this group are restricted to the areas surrounding the Sea of Japan; the known distribution suggests that similar species can be expected to occur also in the northern part of the Japanese Archipelago and in North Korea.

In this paper a compact Ultra Wide Band filter with notch at WLAN frequency is designed. The filter is a designed using coupled lines arranged in inter digital capacitor form. The filter is designed to allow microwave signals in the range of 2GHz to 7GHz with a notch at 5GHz. The measured results show the notch at 5GHz with transmission coefficient of -14dB. With uniform group delay in pass band and nonlinear group delay at notch frequency.

Adopted in Montreal in 2014, the Protocol to Amend the Convention on Offences and Certain Other Acts Committed on Board Aircraft is the nineteenth international legal instrument in the acquis of the United Nations (‘UN’) and its related organisations devoted to prevention and suppression of terrorism. Considering the first of such instruments – the Tokyo Convention on Offences and Certain Other Acts Committed on Board Aircraft (‘the Tokyo Convention’) – was adopted in 1963, it may be assumed that throughout the period of 55 years the UN has succeeded in solving the specific model of combating international terrorism. Although the existing and binding international conventions on suppression of terrorism do not form a uniform group and differ in terms of material scope of offences described therein, it is still possible to indicate one significant feature common to all conventions, and that is a set of legal measures and remedies available at the international level which guarantee an effective fight against terrorism. The above-mentioned set of regulatory measures – including, inter alia, jurisdictional clauses – constitutes a consistent collection of rules to be applied in cases of the majority of terrorist activities. The aforesaid model is based on the principle of aut dedere aut judicare supplemented with a rational control of extradition and jurisdictional issues. This model is also enriched with rules concerning other forms of co-operation such as mutual legal assistance, exchange of information and preventive measures. The rationale for the above-referred measures is to ensure that perpetrators of specific international terrorist offences shall be prosecuted regardless of their place of residence or motives that triggered such action. International anti-terrorist conventions adopted under auspices of the UN help to achieve this goal, confronting the internationalisation of terrorism with internationalisation of means and methods of combating this dangerous phenomenon.

Two new genera of East African Acrometopini are erected: the monotypicPeronurellan. gen. withP. centralisn. sp. from Miombo woodlands in central Tanzania, andTenerasphagan. gen. for a morphological uniform group of species formerly included inHoratosphaga,T. chyuluensisn. sp.,T. mbulun. sp.T. nanyuki,T. nudan. comb,T. meruensisn. comb,T. teneran. comb andT. bazeletaen. comb. Additional species are described in the generaAltihoratosphaga,LamecosomaandPeronura. Keys to African genera of Acrometopini and species of the genusTenerasphagaare provided. We review the male calling songs and the morphology of the acoustical apparatus and discuss how the morphology of the stridulatory files explains the complicated song patterns and elements. All Acrometopini species showed a plesiomorphic karyotype with a diploid chromosome number of 2n = 31 and a X0 sex chromosome system in males.

Context. Eigenvector 1 (EV1) is the formal parameter which allows the introduction of some order in the properties of the unobscured type 1 active galaxies. Aims. We aim to understand the nature of this parameter by analyzing the most extreme examples of quasars with the highest possible values of the corresponding eigenvalues RFe. Methods. We selected the appropriate sources from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and performed detailed modeling, including various templates for the Fe II pseudo-continuum and the starlight contribution to the spectrum. Results. Out of 27 sources with RFe larger than 1.3 and with the measurement errors smaller than 20% selected from the SDSS quasar catalog, only six sources were confirmed to have a high value of RFe, defined as being above 1.3. All other sources have an RFe of approximately 1. Three of the high RFe objects have a very narrow Hβ line, below 2100 km s−1 but three sources have broad lines, above 4500 km s−1, that do not seem to form a uniform group, differing considerably in black hole mass and Eddington ratio; they simply have a very similar EW([OIII]5007) line. Therefore, the interpretation of the EV1 remains an open issue.
