Profiles of antimicrobial resistance of enterobacteria isolated at livestock enterprises of the Ural region

A study of the antibiotic susceptibility of bacteria of the genus Enterobacter, selected at regional dairy enterprises, was carried out. The purpose of this work was to assess the phenotypic resistance profiles of Enterobacter spp. in the loci of fermenal microbiocenoses related to milk production. Research methodology and methods. In the course of the work carried out, milk, mammary gland secretions, and udder washes from cows at dairy cattle breeding enterprises located in different districts of the Ural region were examined. The phenotypic resistance of Enterobacter spp. Isolates was analyzed to 10 antibacterial drugs: ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, ofloxacin, meropenem, doxycycline, chloramphenicol, ceftriaxone, amoxicillin, ampicillin, rifampicin. Results. Average sensitivity values of Enterobacter spp. for all surveyed enterprises were at the level of 2.0–3.3 conventional units (at maximum = 4) to target antibiotics, and at the level of 2.0–2.1 conventional units to non-target antibiotics. The highest bactericidal efficacy was found in fluoroquinolones, the lowest in doxycycline and chloramphenicol. For individual enterprises, the average resistance profile included good sensitivity to 3–4 antibiotics, reduced to 4–5 and resistance to 1–2 antibiotics. The main conclusion is that in eight surveyed enterprises, the usual pattern was the resistance of isolates or their low sensitivity to several antibiotics of different classes, which indicates an unfavorable situation with AMR. Scientific novelty. The results obtained in the course of the work performed made it possible to assess the current and actual levels of resistance of Enterobacter spp. Isolates inhabiting those loci of fermenal microbiocenoses that are directly related to milk production.

Stay Home—The Impact of Social Distancing in Families during COVID-19 Lockdown: The Case of Cyprus

Everyone has experiences that make them feel upset, disappointed, or fatigued. When these types of feelings are combined with certain life events or situations, such as the current COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, they often lead to mounting tension and stress. A crisis is a disruption or breakdown in a person’s or a family’s normal or usual pattern of functioning. The aims and objectives of this study are to explore how lockdown and social distancing had an impact on family relations in Cyprus and to what extent affected stress level of participants. By examining the impact of social distancing among adults 18 and older (N = 160), valuable conclusions were extracted. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to strengthen the idea of using alternative approaches in social preventions and/or interventions in crisis in order to deal with stress. The study argues that the disruption of usual patterns of functioning, in addition to other psychosocial and economic factors, diminishes the quality of life, resulting in tension and stress in a family environment. On the other hand, findings from the current study indicate an enhancement of relationships in challenging times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fully Automated Colorimetric Analysis of the Optic Nerve Aided by Deep Learning and Its Association with Perimetry and OCT for the Study of Glaucoma

Background: Laguna-ONhE is an application for the colorimetric analysis of optic nerve images, which topographically assesses the cup and the presence of haemoglobin. Its latest version has been fully automated with five deep learning models. In this paper, perimetry in combination with Laguna-ONhE or Cirrus-OCT was evaluated. Methods: The morphology and perfusion estimated by Laguna ONhE were compiled into a “Globin Distribution Function” (GDF). Visual field irregularity was measured with the usual pattern standard deviation (PSD) and the threshold coefficient of variation (TCV), which analyses its harmony without taking into account age-corrected values. In total, 477 normal eyes, 235 confirmed, and 98 suspected glaucoma cases were examined with Cirrus-OCT and different fundus cameras and perimeters. Results: The best Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis results for confirmed and suspected glaucoma were obtained with the combination of GDF and TCV (AUC: 0.995 and 0.935, respectively. Sensitivities: 94.5% and 45.9%, respectively, for 99% specificity). The best combination of OCT and perimetry was obtained with the vertical cup/disc ratio and PSD (AUC: 0.988 and 0.847, respectively. Sensitivities: 84.7% and 18.4%, respectively, for 99% specificity). Conclusion: Using Laguna ONhE, morphology, perfusion, and function can be mutually enhanced with the methods described for the purpose of glaucoma assessment, providing early sensitivity.

An Arithmetical-like Theory of Hereditarily Finite Sets

This paper presents the (second-order) theory of hereditarily finite sets according to the usual pattern adopted in the presentation of the (second-order) theory of natural numbers. To this purpose, we consider three primitive concepts, together with four axioms, which are analogous to the usual Peano axioms. From them, we prove a homomorphism theorem, its converse, categoricity, and a kind of (semantical) completeness.

Solidarity of the shaken: from the experience (Erlebnis) to history

In his Heretical Essays, Jan Patočka introduces the concept of the solidarity of the shaken. He argues that it emerges in the conditions of political violence—the frontline experience (Fronterlebnis). Moreover, Patočka brings into discussion the puzzling concepts of day, night, metanoia and sacrifice, which only further problematise the idea. Researching how other thinkers have examined the phenomenon of the frontline experience, it becomes obvious that Patočka did not invent the obscure vocabulary ex nihilo. Concepts such as frontline experience, sacrifice and the metaphors of the day and night were commonly used by thinkers in the inter-war and post-war eras in their examination of community (Gemeinschaft). This study aims to reconstruct the idea of the solidarity of the shaken as contextualized within a broader scholarly debate on the concept of community (Gemeinschaft). Through the critical dialogue between Patočka’s works and the works of Ernst Jünger and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, this study will portray how Patočka, in his discourse on the frontline experience, follows the usual pattern of overcoming one’s individuality, transcending and opening up to the constitution of solidarity. This paper will argue that Patočka defined the solidarity of the shaken in an attempt to revive the positive aspects of a community and break with the regressive (if not sinister) uses to which it was put in the twentieth century.

For whom no bell tolled

This chapter describes infant burials and their history. When cities were established in Mesopotamia in the fifth millennium b.c.e., particular burial places evolved: adults and older children were interred in cemeteries outside the dwelling sites, infants were disposed of within their natal homes. On the Greek island of Astypalaia, a specific cemetery for newborns was used from 750 b.c.e. At the Athenian Agora, 449 fetal and neonatal skeletons were uncovered in a well. In Roman Italy, deceased infants were mostly disposed of in mass graves. From the 5th century, burial in church-associated cemeteries became the usual pattern in Anglo-Saxon Britain. Funeral rites included viewing of the deceased, prayer and religious service, procession to the gravesite, and burial. For deceased newborn infants, the adult rite was often practised in a simplified form. During the 19th century, burial clubs providing funds for funeral expenses were abused to make money from infanticide. The maintenance of unique mortuary practices lasting millennia suggests that newborns, especially when preterm or malformed, were considered unfinished, and of little societal importance.

R. K. Narayan, the Novelist of the Commoners and His Ironic Sense of Humour

Narayan’s humour is direct course of his intellectual analysis of the contradictions in human experience tragically or comically. Irony can be tragic also, but in Narayan our concern is only the irony, that works as a base for Narayan’s humour the instances of which are found at every step in his novels. The keynote of Narayan’s interest is his very minute observation and subtle ironic harmonious way of telling his story. There is, in his novels, scarcely audible laughter shot through all the novels. His comic vision is ironical. His all embracing irony, which includes the particular social context in his men and women, who have their various transactions and the existential reality based on their particular experiences. The clash between the tradition and modernity in which Narayan’s characters are sandwiched has ironical implications. Narayan’s comprehensive knowledge of the perception of inherent irony in human life makes him a master of comedy, who is nor unware of the tragedy of human situation and tragi-comedies of mischance and misdirection. The basic comic situation in Narayan’s novels is one of the derivation from the normal and in the plots of his novels, he follows the usual pattern of irony order, disorder, order. His irony is free from the satiric spirit of condemnation and censure. His ironic vision is closer in spirit to Chaucer, Shakespear and Dickens. His closeness to Chekhov is striking the same objectivity, the same freedom from comment, the same intricate alliance of humour with tragedy the comic irony with, as Greene puts it and the same seeming indirection even with which the characters, on the last page, appear to vanish into life.

This research aims to specify an important aspect of the stylistic lesson, which is the study of hostile structures in contemporary Arab poetry about Kurds and Kurdistan, to highlight the treatments of those grammatical structures that represent (syntactic modification through the site transformation of the grammatical elements and their deletion) in contemporary Arab poetry about the Kurds and Kurdistan, and study it through the stylistic method procedures by using those structures in it, so the two phenomena have a strong presence in those poems that have been written On the Kurdish issue, in defense of the oppressed Kurdish people. This research deals with the presentation, delay and deletion phenomena that produce a significant semantic and stylistic function, which gives poetic words renewable synthetic energy, and enriches these stylistic phenomena and additional structure and enriches them with additional intended intentions and technical values that are not intended in linguistic performance on the usual pattern, and the familiar language, language is a means of suggestion, It is not only a tool for conveying meanings. Circular Geodesics Stability in a Static Black Hole in New Massive Gravity

We study the existence and stability of circular geodesics in a family of asymptotically AdS static black holes in New Massive Gravity theory. We show that the mathematical sign of the hair parameter determines the existence of such geodesics. For a positive hair parameter, the stability regions follow the usual pattern, with the innermost geodesic being null, unstable, and separated from the horizon, followed by a region of unstable timelike geodesics and then a region of stable timelike geodesics, which extends in the asymptotic region.

Self-prioritization of fully unfamiliar stimuli

Recently, Sui and colleagues introduced an experimental task to investigate prioritization of arbitrary stimuli associated with the self. They demonstrated that after being told to associate three identities (self, friend, stranger) with three arbitrary stimuli (geometrical shapes), participants were faster in a perceptual matching task to recognise matching pairs of self-associated shape with self-label, than respective friend or stranger-related pairings. They interpreted this as evidence that a brief self-association is sufficient to facilitate processing of previously neutral stimuli. However, in the matching trials of the self-prioritization task, participants are processing not only self-associated arbitrary stimuli but also familiar verbal labels with an established meaning. Therefore, the self-advantage may be caused by familiarity of the labels, rather than self-association of the shapes. To test whether self-prioritization can be elicited in a task employing exclusively neutral stimuli, we asked participants to associate avatar faces with three identities (self, name of best friend, and stranger) and replaced labels with unfamiliar abstract symbols that were associated to the words (you, friend, stranger) before the actual experiment started. The results presented the usual pattern of self-prioritization showing that this effect does not critically depend on the presence of familiar labels and that it can be elicited in the absence of any familiar stimuli.
