Iliopsoas abscess is a rare clinical entity. It is even more uncommon for psoas abscess to develop in association with genitourinary infections like perinephric abscess because of the retroperitoneal anatomy. Here we present an unusual case of a perinephric abscess extending as psoas abscess which was treated with computed tomography (CT) guided drainage.

Nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) genitourinary (GU) infections are relatively rare, and there is frequently a delay in diagnosis. Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare complex (MAC) cases seem to be less frequent than other NTM as a cause of these infections. In addition, there are no set treatment guidelines for these organisms in the GU tract. Given the limitations of data this review summarizes a case presentation of this infection and the literature available on the topic. Many different antimicrobial regimens and durations have been used in the published literature. While the infrequency of these infections suggests that there will not be randomized controlled trials to determine optimal therapy, our case suggests that a brief course of amikacin may play a useful role in those who cannot tolerate other antibiotics.

Reactive arthritis has been defined as an aseptic inflammatory arthritis associated with a concomitant infectious disease. Usually, the symptoms develop during or soon after a symptomatic infectious disease, however, in both sexes genitourinary infections might be asymptomatic.  Herein, we presented a case of a 68-year old woman with oligoarthritis associated with a “forgotten” intrauterine device (IUD). The IUD was successfully removed by laparoscopy leading to a full resolution of symptoms and improvement of inflammatory markers. The presented case shows that asymptomatic genital infection should be considered in case of suspected infection-related arthritis without clear etiological cause, especially in women with IUD. The in-depth training of patients regarding the proper use of contraception methods as well as the regular gynaecological examinations might help to prevent further similar cases.

Gardnerella vaginalis (G. vaginalis) is the major bacteria detected in women with bacterial vaginosis (BV). Prevotella bivia (P. bivia) has been demonstrated to show a symbiotic relationship with G. vaginalis. Some men have been shown to be colonized with G. vaginalis in their urogenital or anorectal tracts, however genitourinary infections in males, including balanitis and urethritis, due to this organism appear to be much less common. In this report, we summarize previous cases of men with G. vaginalis infection, and we present a rare and unusual case of a unilateral scrotal abscess caused by G. vaginalis in co-infection with P. bivia.
