Background: Little has been done to evaluate clinical competence of community service nurses (CSNs) during the 12-month compulsory community service in South Africa. Evaluating clinical competence of CSNs would be of benefit as it might improve quality patient care and promote patient satisfaction. It therefore became of paramount importance for the researcher to establish some method of evaluating the CSNs’ clinical competence during their compulsory service in the North West province (NWP), South Africa.Aim: To evaluate the clinical competence evaluation tool (CCET) for CSNs for reliability and validity.Setting: A selected regional level 2 hospital. Methods: Ten experts participated in the validation process. The tool was tested at one of the public hospitals in the NWP and 11 out of 13 CSNs participated in this process. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 25 was employed and the reliability of the tool was measured using Cronbach’s alpha. Results: This tool’s content validity index has exceeded 0.80 and is indicated at 0.98, which reflects excellent content validity. The higher the content validity ratio score the greater the agreement amongst the experts. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficients in the six competencies are all greater than 0.7 implying that the tool developed in this study is reliable. All the experts indicated that the tool is clear, simple, general, accessible and important. Conclusion: From the above-mentioned results, a CCET for CSNs was proven to be valid and reliable.Contribution: This was the first tool to be developed in NWP of South Africa.

AbstractThe development of competency assessments that measure 21st century competencies is critical for improving the quality of education. The purpose of this research is to describe a framework and prototype for assessing Math and Science or Math-Sci competency skills in the twenty-first century. The method of development research employed in this study is based on the Akker framework, which entails preliminary research, prototyping, design, and development in a paper and pencil test format. The equipment of the investigation included observation sheets, questionnaires, and tests. This study results in a conceptual framework for the instrument and a verified prototype of the Math-Sci competence evaluation. The Math-Sci competence evaluation is conceptualized around thematic, interdisciplinary questions that integrate three (three) subjects, namely Science (Biology-Physics) and Mathematics, in an Islamic context. Math-Sci, using the ladder analogy (monodisciplinary, interdisciplinary 1, and interdisciplinary 2) to rank students' competency, relates to the thought process of Bloom's taxonomy, the context, and the complexity of the topic. The instrument created was deemed valid and practicable based on the results of expert validation. The development of the Math-Sci competence assessment instrument was the first step toward strengthening assessment for learning and assisting in the improvement of learning through the presentation of integrated contextual problems. How to Cite: Zulfiani, Suwarna, I.P., Suwarna, Muin, A. The purpose of study is to assess the teaching competence of faculty members who are applying for a job at university from both Board of Examiners and Invitees perspectives. This qualitative study was conducted using non-guided content analysis. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews with 22 expert Board of Examiners. In addition, 22 applicants for faculty recruitment who achieved the required score for participation in the 'teaching competence evaluation' station were enrolled in the study. Data analysis was performed using the step-by-step method and Strauss and Corbin analytic techniques. The finding was classified into three main categories of before, during, and after teaching. We extracted 52 indices, 10 subcategories, five general categories, and three main categories, which were formulated based on the teaching competence of the faculty members from the perspective of the board of examiners.  the results could be used for the recruitment of capable faculty members.   Keywords: Teaching Competence, Higher Education, Faculty Members, Academic staff, University level

Abstract. Soccer is one of the most practiced sports in the world, requiring coaches, club technicians and specialized sports associations to have the tools to identify potential players who demonstrate a high professional level. That is why the objective was to implement an evaluation methodology for the analysis of a soccer player competency model (MCJF) in two teams in the Sevilla FC “cadete” (U15-16) category. The competence perception of 4 dimensions (psychological, tactical, technical and physical) was analyzed, on a scale of six levels. A bidirectional analysis was carried out, where the player's perception of himself and the coach's perception of the player are compared, and if this depends on the position held on the field. The results suggested that the assessment of the perception of skills to highlight the talent of coaches and players are similar in all areas, highlighting the tactical, technical and psychosocial dimensions. The perception that a player has about the assessment of his skills depends on the position he occupies on the field of play (ANOVA p <0.05). Regarding the perception of the coach, the tactical and technical dimensions showed dependence on the variables studied (ANOVA p <0.05). This study shows the need for tools not only for coaches to detect talent, but also for the players themselves to know what’s expected of them to develop at a professional level.

Abstract The recognition that transversal competences are increasingly needed to face the challenges of the ever-changing world has given rise to work examining students’ development of transversal competences (TVCs) during their university time. This approach argues in favor of embedding transversal competences as well as health literacy competence and subject-based competences in curricula. The mini-study presented herein first posits a logical model for the integration of transversal competences in university curricula, supplemented with a qualimetric model comprising 6 factors associated with transversal competences. The resulting tools for transversal competence evaluation and self-assessment were next applied in a pilot questionnaire study of a small group of management students at a local university. Overall, the findings support the claim that students’ TVC development requires a new educational paradigm based on a holistic approach to competence-based learning that involves the harmonious development of a person’s TVCs and subject-based competences. Moreover, the results may serve as a reference for future studies on transversal competences and health literacy in particular, as well as for teachers and researchers in related fields.

Nursing departments in hospitals must evaluate the practical competency of newly graduated nurses and assist them to increase their competence. Competency assessments often consider multiple qualitative attributes and use expert knowledge as the basis for decision-making. This study proposes a hybrid multiple attribute decision-making (MADM) model that determines practical competency of the newly graduated nurse as an evaluation framework. A causal influence-network diagram (CIND) and influential weights are obtained from nursing experts’ clinical experience using the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL)-based analytical network process analysis (DANP). The MOORA-AS method is then used to evaluate the ability expectation ratio-gap for newly graduated nurses in practice. The CIND is used to allow each newly graduated nurse to reduce the performance ratio-gaps between the current level and the aspirational level from a systematic perspective. The empirical data applies to a third-class and a first-class hospital in China. The results show that the proposed hybrid MADM model has reliable results and allows nursing department decision-makers/managers to easily evaluate and systematically improve competencies for newly graduated nurses.
