Controlling pharmaceutical prescription costs has been an interest in the United States for decades. In 2016, EpiPen experienced a 600% price increase. This exploratory framing study focuses on news coverage of EpiPen’s price increase and related pharmaceutical price increase stories through analyzing three U.S. television news programs’ coverage. Within 30 news segments that discussed EpiPen or medication price increases, analysis revealed four frames: economic, attribution of responsibility, morality and human interest, and conflict and powerlessness. This study provides a larger understanding of how the crisis of medication price increases is understood and implications for practitioners and individuals aiming to make medications more accessible.

The pharmacy installation is one of the units in the hospital that provides. service products and services in the form of prescription services. Prescription service asthe front line of pharmacy services to patients must be managed properly becausethe quality of pharmaceutical prescription service which is generally associated with the speed ingiving service. This research is a descriptive type of research with prospective data collection from March-June 2019 to evaluate the waiting time for outpatient prescription services at the Hospital Pharmacy Installation of the Universitas Sumatera Utara. The data taken were 357 outpatient prescriptions. The results of this study indicate the total average length of time waiting for outpatients for the provision of non-fake drugs at the Pharmacy Installation of Outpatients at the University of Sumatera Utara Hospital at 09.00 - 11.00 is 29.10 minutes, at 11.00 - 13.00 is 34.44. minutes and at 13.00 - finished 42.60 minutes. The average length of waiting time for outpatients for the provision of compound drugs at the Outpatient Pharmacy Installation of the University of Sumatera Utara Hospital at 09.00 - 11.00 is 51.67 minutes, 11.00 - 13.00 hours is 62.27 minutes and at 13.00 - completion was 65.71 minutes. The waiting time for prescription services is ≤ 60 minutes.Based on the results of research conducted at the Outpatient Pharmacy Installation at the University of Sumatera Utara Hospital, non-concocted prescription drugs meet the requirements if the service time speed is ≤ 30 minutes and the concocted drug prescription fulfills the requirements if the service time speed is ≤ 60 minutes.

Background - he variability in the prescription of antibiotics in the infant population registers changes that cannot always be explained by the associated morbidity alone. Italy, despite its decreasing trend, is still among those countries with the highest prescriptions and shows an important inter-regional variability. The Pharmaceutical Service of the Piedmont Region gave the start to a working group with the task of describing the prescriptive activities, evaluating any internal variability and proposing strategies for improvement. Aim - The aim of the work is to describe the results achieved in Piedmont in 2012-2018 with regard to the paediatric treatment. Materials and methods - Data on prescriptions in paediatrics, grouped for ATC, were obtained from the regional pharmaceutical prescription system. Prescriptive rates and treatment prevalence - children with at least one prescription during the year - were calculated for the total number of residents. Results - The overall rate was reduced from 931 to 689 prescriptions per thousand children. In the same period, the prevalence of prescriptions was also reduced from 45.5% to 34.8%. Non-associated amoxicillin accounted for less than 15% of prescriptions, while clavulanate amoxicillin was the most widely used antibiotic with the 45% of the prescriptions. The ratio of amoxicillin to clavulanate amoxicillin remained strongly negative over the entire period, although it slightly improved from 0.27 to 0.42. Conclusion - The proportion of treatments, though decreasing, is still far from those of other virtuous European nations. Amoxicillin, unlike what suggested by inter-national and national guidelines, is the least prescribed antibiotics with an excess in clavulanate amoxicillin prescriptions that is difficult to explain. According to recent AIFA reports, the observed differences seem to depend partly on the patient's family but mainly on the prescriptive behaviours. Therefore, the professionals involved should compare prescribing practices to further improve prescriptive appropriateness.

AbstractObjective:The aim of this study was to assess whether burnout and empathy levels among general practitioners (GPs) might influence prescribing performance assessed using pharmaceutical prescription quality standard indicators.Design and Setting:Cross-sectional descriptive study of 108 GPs from 22 primary care centers in Lleida, Spain, and of centralized data corresponding to 183 600 patients under their care. The study was conducted between May and July 2014.Main Outcome Measures:Burnout and empathy were measured using the Spanish versions of the Maslach Burnout Inventory and the Jefferson Scale for Physician Empathy, and prescribing quality was measured using the Catalan Pharmaceutical Prescription Quality Standard (EQPF). Normal distribution of scores was verified using the Chi-square and Kolmogorov–Smirnov–Lilliefors tests. The effect of each of the variables was evaluated using crude odds ratios. Results:Older GPs scored significantly higher in the EQPF (P< 0.05). High empathy scores were positively associated with high EQPF scores. GPs with low burnout also performed better in the EQPF.Conclusions:More empathic, less burned-out, older GPs showed better prescribing performance according to quality indicators. However, further studies are needed to evaluate other factors influencing prescribing habits. The promotion of communication skills may increase empathy and reduce burnout, thus benefiting patients.
