Melanin is an organic semiconductor from a broad class of functional macromolecules found in nature. It has hybrid properties of an amorphous semiconductor. However, natural melanin has not been widely studied; this is partially due to the lack of processing methods, as melanin is generally extracted and measured as a powder. Thus, better electrical methods are required; one possible solution is the use of electrochemical synthesis. We investigated the electrochemical properties of melanin at different degrees of acidity and for various electrode cells. The electrochemical properties of natural melanin were studied using two different techniques: the constant potential method and cyclic voltammetry. This could allow different types of charge transport and make melanin a contender in this rapidly growing field. Natural melanin is believed to be a hybrid conductor where the dominant charge carriers change between electrons and protons as the acidity degree and water concentration change. Biocompatible and biodegradable features make melanin useful for electrochemical energy storage and it could be an attractive candidate for applications in bioelectronics and electronics devices.

Hybrid fiber reinforced composites can be controlled by price, weight and various mechanical properties depending on fiber ratio and lamination method. Despite these excellent hybrid properties, there is a disadvantage that inter-laminar fracture due to external impact, which is the biggest weakness of fiber reinforced composite materials, is weak. The test specimens were prepared by using a vacuum bag method, which is manufactured by using an autoclave device. The pre-preg is manufactured in the form of a B-stage. In the process of fabricating the nanoparticle pre-preg, the homogeneizer using an ultrasonic wave was used to disperse the epoxy subject without the curing agent into nanoparticles. The dispersion of the nanoparticles was dispersed by the weight of the epoxy resin. This is to take into account the cohesion of HNT and to understand the range of cohesion of HNT in a matrix with viscosity and its phenomenon. According to the Comparison of the interlayer interfacial properties and mechanical properties of Aramid / Basalt fiber hybrid composites by HNT addition, the fracture toughness, ILSS and bending strength of specimens with HNT content of more than a certain level were decreased because of the aggregation of HNT.

Studies on nanoparticles have focused the attention of the researchers because they can produce nanocomposites that exhibit unexpected hybrid properties. Polymeric materials are commonly used in food packaging, but from the standpoint of food safety, one of the main concerns on the use of these materials is the potential migration of low molecular substances from the packaging into the food. The key parameters of this phenomenon are the diffusion and partition coefficients. Studies on migration from food packaging with nanomaterials are very scarce. This study is focused on the determination of partition coefficients of different model migrants between the low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and polypropylene (PP) and between LDPE and nanocomposite polypropylene (naPP). The results show that the incorporation of nanoparticles in polypropylene increases the mass transport of model migrants from LDPE to naPP. This quantity of migrants absorbed into PP and naPP depends partially on the nature of the polymer and slightly on the chemical features of the migrant. Relation (RPP/naPP) between partition coefficientKLDPE/PPand partition coefficientKLDPE/naPPat 60°C and 80°C shows that only BHT at 60°C has aRPP/naPPless than 1. On the other hand, bisphenol A has the highestRPP/naPPwith approximately 50 times more.

A technology for creating new composite materials with hybrid properties desired by many designers was developed and evaluated. Young’s modulus, density, coefficient of linear expansion, specific heat and thermal conductivity were calculated through a newly developed software. This software has two functions which are (1) the selection of adequate materials and the calculation of their ratios to achieve specific desired properties in a new composite material (2) the calculation of resultant properties given that the component materials and their rations in a composite material are known. The new composite material for the tool post of a machine tool was manufactured and evaluated. It is concluded from the results that the technology was very effective and useful for development of a new composite material with several hybrid properties.
