This study aimed to assess the heart rate (HR) responses of avalanche SAR dogs and handlers under working field conditions. Thirteen SAR units (dogs and handlers) performed an exercise (Endurance) consisting of approximately 5.5 km of rough tracks through deep snow, at an altitude of 1991–2250 m.a.s.l. The exercise was repeated twice for each of the two different tracks. Both handlers and dogs were equipped with a global positioning satellite/heart rate (GPS/HR) system (Polar®). Multivariable models were used to evaluate the effects of environmental (i.e., gradient, altitude, track, and time) and intrinsic (i.e., speed, repetition, and breed) factors on changes from baseline HR (Δ%HR). The dog’s Δ%HR was greater in the flat and uphill compared with downhill, and increased progressively as the speed increased (p < 0.001). Moreover, it rose at altitudes above 2100 m.a.s.l. and peaked after 30 min of the Endurance activity (p < 0.01). These findings indicated that HR monitors could be a valuable tool to contribute to the evaluation of avalanche dogs’ fitness in their real working environment. In contrast, the lack of correlation between the dogs’ and handlers’ HR changes suggests that handlers might not perceive the physical conditions of their dog in real-time. Thus, implementing protocols to monitor avalanche SAR dogs’ fitness using a GPS/HR monitoring system could help handlers to tailor the training and workload and to detect the risk factors for physical distress of working dogs.

RationaleDietary nitrate supplementation improves skeletal muscle oxygen utilisation and vascular endothelial function. We hypothesised that these effects might be sufficient to improve exercise performance in patients with COPD and hypoxia severe enough to require supplemental oxygen.MethodsWe conducted a single-centre, double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over study, enrolling adults with COPD who were established users of long-term oxygen therapy. Participants performed an endurance shuttle walk test, using their prescribed oxygen, 3 hours after consuming either 140 mL of nitrate-rich beetroot juice (BRJ) (12.9 mmol nitrate) or placebo (nitrate-depleted BRJ). Treatment order was allocated (1:1) by computer-generated block randomisation.MeasurementsThe primary outcome was endurance shuttle walk test time. The secondary outcomes included area under the curve to isotime for fingertip oxygen saturation and heart rate parameters during the test, blood pressure, and endothelial function assessed using flow-mediated dilatation. Plasma nitrate and nitrite levels as well as FENO were also measured.Main results20 participants were recruited and all completed the study. Nitrate-rich BRJ supplementation prolonged exercise endurance time in all participants as compared with placebo: median (IQR) 194.6 (147.5–411.7) s vs 159.1 (121.9–298.5) s, estimated treatment effect 62 (33–106) s (p<0.0001). Supplementation also improved endothelial function: NR-BRJ group +4.1% (−1.1% to 14.8%) vs placebo BRJ group −5.0% (−10.6% to –0.6%) (p=0.0003).ConclusionAcute dietary nitrate supplementation increases exercise endurance in patients with COPD who require supplemental oxygen.Trial registration numberISRCTN14888729.

Background. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is widely used in China, but it does not fundamentally improve exercise endurance or reduce mortality associated with cardiovascular disease. Standardized cardiac rehabilitation (CR) can reduce the mortality associated with coronary heart disease and reduce the need for repeated PCI procedures. Currently, research on CR after PCI is mainly based on traditional exercise prescription, while research on TCM is limited. Often, the combination of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and exercise rehabilitation is adopted, from which it is difficult to determine the unique advantages of TCM. Qishen Yiqi dripping pills (QSYQ) can improve myocardial energy metabolism and alleviate myocardial reperfusion injury after PCI. This paper describes the protocol for the clinical assessment of QSYQ on CR. Methods. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial will be used to evaluate the efficacy and safety of QSYQ on improving exercise endurance and quality of life. We plan to recruit 66 patients with stable angina pectoris with Qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome differentiation after PCI from the China-Japan Friendship Hospital. On the basis of conventional drug treatment, QSYQ or placebo will be used for 12 weeks. PeakVO2 will be the main efficacy evaluation index, while Seattle scale and quality of life scale will be the secondary efficacy evaluation indexes. Discussion. CR therapy with integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine has been developed as a treatment modality in China and has been included in the expert consensus of TCM diagnosis and treatment. A rigorous trial design will ensure objective and scientific evaluation of the efficacy and safety of QSYQ in improving exercise endurance and quality of life in patients with PCI. Starting from the spread of viruses Covid 19 that swept across the world in particular in Indonesia, bringing the idea to create research that contribute in dealing with viruses Covid 19. This study aims to determine the effect of endurance exercise on the body's defenses to prevent transmission of the virus covid 19 for student penjaskesrek Undana. This research is an experimental study of Quasi-Experimental Designs by using Nonequivalent Comparison Group Design which compares the effect of endurance training on the two levels of physical fitness categories of Penjaskesrek students, those who have very Low and Low categories.Samples were 12 female students from Penjaskesrek Undana in semester 2, 4 and 6, where 6 people were in the less physical fitness category, and 6 in the physical fitness category were very Low.The findings of this study include; 1) In the group of physical fitness Low are Effect of Exercise Endurance Resilience Body face Virus Covid 19 on the students Penjaskesrek Undana significantly, 2) In the group of physical fitness is very Low are Effect of Exercise Endurance Resilience Body face Virus Covid 19 on the students Penjaskesrek Undana significantly.So, the conclusion is that endurance exercises are more effective in increasing endurance to deal with the Covid 19 virus.
