To control the large deformation that occurs in deep shaft-surrounding rock, the post-peak strain-softening characteristics of deep jointed rock mass are discussed in detail. An equivalent post-peak strain-softening model of jointed rock mass is established based on continuum theory and the geological strength index surrounding rock grading system, and numerical simulations are performed using FLAC3D software. The convergence-constraint method is used to analyze the rock support structure interaction mechanism. A composiste support technique is proposed in combination with actual field breakage conditions. During the initial support stage, high-strength anchors are used to release the rock stress, and high-stiffness secondary support is provided by well rings and poured concrete. This support technology is applied in the accessory well of a coal mine in Niaoshan, Heilongjiang, China. The stability of the surrounding rock support structure is calculated and analyzed by comparing the ideal elastic-plastic model and equivalent jointed rock mass strain-softening model. The results show that a support structure designed based on the ideal elastic-plastic model cannot meet the stability requirements of the surrounding rock and that radial deformation of the surrounding rock reaches 300 mm. The support structure designed based on the equivalent joint strain-softening model has a convergence rate of surrounding rock deformation of less than 1 mm/d after 35 days of application. The surrounding rock deformation is finally controlled at 140 mm, indicating successful application of the support technology.

In order to explore the deformation and failure evolution characteristics of the surrounding rock during the connection process of the deep rock burst drivage roadway under the dynamic load disturbance, and based on this, the catastrophe mechanism of the roadway is analyzed, taking the rock burst accident of Longyun Coal Industry in Shandong Province on October 20, 2018, as the engineering background. FLAC3D was used to study the distribution evolution law of displacement, plastic zone, and stress field in the whole process of “Roadway Drivage-Deformation and Failure-Instability and Disaster” in the surrounding rock of deep roadway. The research results show that under the conditions of high stress and dynamic load disturbance, the surrounding rock deformation and failure are significant during the connection of the thick-top-coal roadway in deep, the roof is the most, the two ribs are the second, and the roadway top-coal is in an “inverted trapezoid” sag pattern. When the length of the bolts is limited or the anchoring force of the cables is not enough to effectively restrain the roof, the impact of dynamic disturbance on the plastic damage of the roof is greater than that of the two ribs and the floor, and the plastic damage of the coal seam roof affecting the surrounding rock deformation of the roadway drivage played a leading role.

The underground caverns of Shuangjiangkou hydropower station are under complex geological conditions. During excavation, the stability of the tunnels is severely affected by problems, such as blasting impact and excavation unloading, resulting in abnormal deformation at different locations. On the basis of on-site measurement, the characteristics of rocks at the main powerhouse and the main transformer room are compared through dynamic tests, and a numerical model is established using discrete element method (DEM) to analyze the special influence of fault SPD9-f1 on the deformation after excavation. It is revealed that the surrounding rock of the main powerhouse has stronger impact resistance than that of the main transformer room and that the existence of fault SPD9-f1 accounts for the abnormal deformation. In this study, the failure characteristics and mechanism of surrounding rock deformation controlled by stress and fault are revealed, providing important references for the subsequent excavation and support design of underground projects.

AbstractIn coal mining roadway support design, the working resistance of the rock bolt is the key factor affecting its maximum support load. Effective improvement of the working resistance is of great significance to roadway support. Based on the rock bolt’s tensile characteristics and the mining roadway surrounding rock deformation, a mechanical model for calculating the working resistance of the rock bolt was established and solved. Taking the mining roadway of the 17102 (3) working face at the Panji No. 3 Coal Mine of China as a research site, with a quadrilateral section roadway, the influence of pretension and anchorage length on the working resistance of high-strength and ordinary rock bolts in the middle and corner of the roadway is studied. The results show that when the bolt is in the elastic stage, increasing the pretension and anchorage length can effectively improve the working resistance. When the bolt is in the yield and strain-strengthening stages, increasing the pretension and anchorage length cannot effectively improve the working resistance. The influence of pretension and anchorage length on the ordinary and high-strength bolts is similar. The ordinary bolt’s working resistance is approximately 25 kN less than that of the high-strength bolt. When pretension and anchorage length are considered separately, the best pretensions of the high-strength bolt in the middle of the roadway side and the roadway corner are 41.55 and 104.26 kN, respectively, and the best anchorage lengths are 1.54 and 2.12 m, respectively. The best anchorage length of the ordinary bolt is the same as that of the high-strength bolt, and the best pretension for the ordinary bolt in the middle of the roadway side and at the roadway corner is 33.51 and 85.12 kN, respectively. The research results can provide a theoretical basis for supporting the design of quadrilateral mining roadways.

In the process of tunnel construction, the bias of layered rock mass tunnels has always been a prominent problem that troubles the construction and safe operation of tunnels. In this paper, a comprehensive method that combines monitoring technology and discrete element (3DEC) numerical simulation is proposed to analyze the deformation characteristics of the surrounding rock in the layered rock tunnel and the deformation law of the bias tunnel. The results indicate that the tunnel surrounding rock deformation in the study area showed the characteristics of bias. Based on the bias mechanism, the surrounding rock deformation law, the construction deformation control, and the optimization measures of layered rock mass in the bias tunnel were studied by means of combining monitoring technology with discrete element (3DEC) numerical simulation. Based on the research results, appropriate methods for controlling the deformation of the surrounding rock of the tunnel with comprehensive consideration of the anchor rod length, anchor rod angle, and anchor rod layout spacing were proposed. The method proposed in this paper could visually reveal the deformation characteristics of the surrounding rock of layered rock tunnels and the deformation law of bias tunnels. It could also better solve the problem of deformation control in the tunnel construction process. This approach provides a novel idea for special layered rock mass tunnel bias evaluation and deformation control parameter optimization and serves as a valuable reference for analogous engineering cases through engineering case analysis.
