AbstractMaterial fatigue is one of the elementary causes of damage in steel construction besides corrosion and abrasion. Design recommendations require that weld seams are placed in less stressed areas due to the crack-sensitive nature of the welded areas. As a result, unwelded areas of the components such as free cut plate edges gain technical and economic relevance as locations for potential fatigue cracks. In the metal processing industry, different thermal cutting processes are frequently used. During the process, unwanted boundary conditions can lead to undesired cuts in the component geometry during the cutting process. These process dysfunctions lead to incorrect components and to rejects. This article presents results of fatigue test data of oxy-fuel thermal cut edges of defect-free and faulty repair-welded samples to investigate the influence of competing notches on the cut edge. Specimens are made from construction steels S355N and S690Q of a 20-mm-thick plate. The presented data shows that the fatigue strength of the damaged cut edges can be recovered by the repair procedure and does not show any reduction of the fatigue strength due to the determined pores or other metallurgical notches of the repaired section.

The purpose of the research was to investigate whether the companies involved in strategic business alliances (henceforth referred to as the SBA) have a higher level of open innovation and better business results in the metal industry in the EU country, namely Slovenia. The survey was carried out in 115 companies, where the aforementioned relations and their influence were studied applying appropriate statistical methods (e.g. the Mann-Whitney Test, Chi-Square statistics, t-test, etc.). The sample encompassed four clusters and R&D centres from metal-processing industry. The results showed that SBA have a significantly strong impact on companies’ open innovation as well as more efficient cooperation with universities and research institutions. Among the companies involved in SBA, the portion of innovations generated in cooperation with their business partners accounted for 57.7%, while those, not involved in SBA, the same indicator amounts to 19%. In addition, the results showed that the majority of business results, in companies involved in SBA, were above average, compared to the industry sector average values. The value added per employee within companies involved in the SBA was significantly higher than the industry average, as well as the profits; difference was more than threefold. It may be concluded that SBA represent an important bridge in the transformation from a closed innovation model to a model of open innovation, resulting in better business performance. Important implication for companies is related to the message that cooperation with competitors may bring value added to all companies involved.

The article analyzes the current state of the metal processing industry and the secondary raw materials market, considers the problems and identifies prospects for its development. The relevance of the article is due to the rapid development of new information and communication technologies, thanks to which there is a new way to manage the processes of collection and processing of secondary raw materials, which is based on fundamentally different rules than the traditional one. To create conditions, it is advisable to work on improving the reliability and international comparability of data, the development of quality standards of secondary raw materials, the creation of an information platform of common access, which will not only monitor the development of the economic system, but also to share information with all participants in the sector. The results of the study can be used to improve the methodology for the formation of mechanisms for the effective use of secondary raw materials by processing companies.

The purpose of this research is. 1) mapping the distribution pattern of the metal processing industry in Nagari Sungai Pua. 2) publish the profile and potential of the metal processing industry in Nagari Sungai Pua using a WebGIS based geographic information system. This type of research is quantitative descriptive. In analyzing the distribution pattern of the metal processing industry, the method used is the Nearest Neighborhood analysis method and the method used in building WebGIS is the waterfall method The result of this study are: 1) the distribution pattern of the metal processing industry in Nagari Sungai Pua is random with a T index value of 0,884269. 2) publication related to the profile and potential of the metal processing industry in Nagari Sungai Pua can be accessed using WebGIS which has been successfully build using the waterfall method with the domain address http://webgisindustrisungaipua.000webhostapp.com. This WebGIS presents information about the metal processing industry in Nagari Sungai Pua which is presented in the form of maps containing data ranging from the distribution of metal processing industries, profiles and industrial potential that can be seen by the public so that information related to this industry can be accessed easily.

Metal swarf is unavoidable material in metal processing industry, also metal swarf treatment lead to cost savings by metal waste reduction and removing the cutting fluid waste, that cause to increasing process stability and metal value. It is interested that in how to recycle metal swarf especially when swarf surrounded by cutting fluid, is considered because these waste are classified as hazardous waste. The aim of the study is to increase the process efficiency and environmental performance by metal waste reduction at source which are the first step of the waste hierarchy. The results of the experiments showed that 3391 tons of metal swarf coated with cutting fluids which contained 2.29% cutting fluid be produced annually. It has been found that if the total amount of cutting fluid on the swarf surface be reduced to less than 1% leads to a significant mass reduction in the amount of hazardous waste. In this research, it was considered, 107,922 USD profit at the end of first year and 205,278 USD at the end of second year would be obtained by reducing the cutting fluid content from 2.29% to 0.8% with using cutting fluid that surrounded metal swarf separation equipment in manufacturing location.

Abstract The development of enterprises in the globalised world depends on their development potential and ability to compete with other entities. Of key importance in the field of competitiveness is access to innovative technologies providing a competitive advantage and the ability to cooperate in their acquisition with other entities, e.g. in clusters. The authors attempted to identify the sources of technology and financing options used by companies in the metal processing industry. The studied entities are part of a cluster of national importance, and the adopted research method is based on an interview questionnaire. Studies have shown that most companies buy ready-made solutions and to a lesser extent cooperate in acquiring technology. Noticeable is also a relatively large share of financing investments in new technologies from public funds.
